Abstract

Introduction. The teachers at Kelompok Belajar Islam Terpadu (KBIT) Sukamukti village have used picture storybooks from the Library of Sukamukti village and reading them in a story telling session to their students. Two of this activities as a basic in the pre-reading activity to early childhood, so that the purpose this reaserch is to understand how the teachers use the picture storybooks, reading technique, and storytelling. Data Collection Method. This paper used a qualitative perspective with phenomenology by using observations, interviews, focus group discussions, and literature study. Analysis Data. Data from interviews were transcribed for further analysis Results and Discussion. The teachers at KBIT Sukamukti village used the picture of storybooks with fables. The teachers also discussed plot, animal activities, themes and morality based on the story. The language in the story is easy to understand by the children, book illustrations explain the reality of the character in the forest. Activities read aloud by introducing the identity of the book used, and storytelling activities through self-assement, stories, sounds, expressions, gestures, and other abilities. Conclusion. The teachers read and tell stories to educate young children in alphabet, vocabularies, and creativity. This helps early children in the process of learning pre-reading.

Abstract

Introduction. The role of information institutions in the post-truth era is important in creating an independent and competent society in dealing with information. This conceptual article aims to see the role of information institutions in responding to community information behavior in the post-truth era. Data Collection Method. The method in this article uses a qualitative approach with the type of narrative review. Data Analysis. The analysis was carried out by synthesizing the literature and case studies from several reports discussing the impact of fake news spread in the community. Results and Discussions. Information institutions need to take an active role in improving the conditions of society through knowledge-based development and information sharing processes, to create a community that is capable in using information and in evaluating the credibility and suitability of information sources. Conclusion. In the post-truth era, psychological aspects become an important aspect, where one's information behavior becomes more dominantly influenced by emotional dimensions and personal beliefs. This increasingly shows the importance of skills in evaluating information sources and critical thinking more clearly than in previous eras.

Abstract

Introduction. The purpose of this study is to examine a zotero training conducted by Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Library, information literacy skills, and the role of the zotero training on the literacy skills in students’ academic writing. Data Collection Method. The data collection method used was a descriptive qualitative with observation and interviews. The participants were students study of Master of Government Affairs and Administration program at UMY. Data Analysis. Data analysis was performed by validating the collected data which were then categorized based on the theory. Results and Discussions. The results showed that students received the zotero training well. The material provided in the training including the explanation of the Zotero concept, installation of the Zotero application, and utilization of the Zotero application were well understood. Conclusion. The ability of information literacy of students of Master of Government Affairs and Administration, which was initially limited, increases by the Zotero training involvement. These capabilities include how to identify information needs, access information, evaluate information, and use information effectively.

Abstract

Introduction. This study aims to determine the organizational culture in the National Library of Indonesia (NLI) based on several aspects including clan (human resource management), adhocracy (innovation organization), market (adaptation and strategic organization), and hierarchy (coordination and organizational structure). Research Methods. This study used a quantitative approach of Competing Values ​​Framework (CVF) developed by Cameron & Quinn (2011) to obtain data scores and the average of each aspect of organizational culture. Data Analysis. Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) is an organizational culture assessment instrument by using statements/questions relating to the six subsystems, namely organizational culture dominant characters, leadership, human resource management, internal solidarity, strategic management and organizational success criteria. The data was analysed by using SPSS with Pearson Correlation formula. Results and Discussion. We found that organizational culture of the National Library is cultural hierarchy. Conclusion and Recommendations. Organization culture of the (NLI) shows the cultural hierarchy. The cultural hierarchy is maintained as part of the working principles of the organization.

Abstract

Introduction. The academic library in the Pancoran area have user-oriented reference services by creating services called Personal Assistant Library Service (PALS). This paper discusses the reference services at Pancoran University which aims to describe the implementation of PALS at Universitas Pancoran as an effort to improve the academic library. Method. The method uses case study with qualitative approach. Techniques of collecting data through interviews conducted on librarians who work in the library. Results and Discussions. The findings of the strategy undertaken in an effort to improve reference services at the Pancoran University library can be done in a personal way by forming PALS services. In the case of Pancoran University, these efforts are reflected in the collection support provided for new services, reassessing the competencies needed for services and seeing the challenges that exist in its implementation. Conclusion. The improvement of college library services through PALS is an alternative that can be used by other university libraries even though the application at Pancoran University has not been maximized. PALS focuses on the needs of college library users with high ability needs and different subjects with personal handling.

Abstract

Introduction. Citation is the main indicator in research performance evaluation using the quantitative approach. There have been many criticisms of citations since they were used half a century ago, but they have not yet succeeded in bringing new concepts and methods. This paper aims to criticize and propose a new approach to citation analysis. Data Collection Method. A contemporary critical theory methodology was adopted as a framework to collect and analyze the data. Scientific publications related to citation analysis was collected from several databases such as Google scholar, Microsoft academic search, dan Garuda Ristekdikti. Analysis Data. Publications data were critically reviewed and analyzed narratively by using open coding. Results and Discussions. The results mapped the lack of citation analysis form various aspects: (1) criticism of the positivist paradigm which did not succeed in achieving its objectives, (2) criticism of methods that produce invalid results, and (3) criticism of ethical issues of the researcher and bias in implementation. The proposed solution and recommendation is to change the citation analysis method from a simple measurement of bibliographic data to text and context analysis based on a computer science approach (machine learning techniques). Conclusion. This new method has the potential to be developed within the framework of quantitative in Science and Technology studies to overcome existing criticisms. Subsequent multidisciplinary studies are needed to lay a strong philosophical and technical foundation particularly in applying the in-text citation analysis method for evaluating research performance in accordance with the Indonesian context.

Abstract

Introduction. This study discusses Leiden University Library reference services through the KITLV-Jakarta. Since KITLV was acquired by the Leiden University Library, the KITLV-Jakarta Library which was a KITLV-Dutch representative, is now a representative of the Leiden University Library in Jakarta. Data Collection Method. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive research involving observations and interviews as well as primary document data sources. Data Analysis. The data was analyzed by involving the process of data reduction, interpretation, and conclusion. Results and Discussions. The results of the study indicate that reference services, particularly for reference collections found in the Leiden University Library cannot be accessed directly through the KITLV-Jakarta Library. Only KITLV librarians can request the reference service from Leiden University librarians. Conclusion. Librarians at the KITLV-Jakarta Library do not have the same access as librarians at the Leiden University Library, even though the KITLV-Jakarta Library is a representative of the Leiden University Library in Jakarta.

Abstract

Introduction. Performance evaluation is the process of evaluating the implementation of the tasks of organizational members, including libraries, in accordance with the performance standards using particular way including instruments. Instruments are needed to document the evaluation carried out by the organization. Therefore, libraries need to pay attention to developa performance evaluation instrument to plan their human resources. This research explains an overview of stages in developing performance evaluation instruments in an organization, particularly libraries. Research methods. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach by involving the existing performance evaluation dimensions. After that, the performance evaluation indicators were developed. Data analysis. The measurement of validity and reliability was valid when the correlation between items was >0.3 and when Cronbach alpha was > 0.6. The measurement of validity and reliability help to support the development of performance evaluation instruments. Results and Discussion. Of the 36 statements, only 27 items were valid and used in performance appraisal instruments. The items are arranged in a model of development of the performance evaluation instruments. Conclusion and recommendations. A good organization needs to pay attention to the right indicators in an assessment instrument. In its application, it is effective to use the 360 ​​degree method, where employees are evaluated by other staff to ensure the balance professional perspective.

Abstract

Introduction. In academic libraries, transformational and situational leadership is important as it can change organizational behavior and increase the staff performance.There is limited discussion types of leadership. This research discusses two types of leadership and develops a framework in academic libraries of ideal leadership. Data Collection Method. The paper used a qualitative approach and considered literature review from books, journals, and other sources related to the theme. Data Analysis. The paper analyzed various literature, examined and selected data, developed a theoretical framework, and conceptualized the contents. Result and Discussions. Transformational leadership in the academic library is appropriate to create a vision, however, staff commitments develop slowly. The leadership can be appropriately applied to the academic library with a few human resource as itemphasizes two-way communication to motivate staff. Meanwhile, in the situational leadership, organizational vision can be achieved when staff commitments are developed effectively. The situational leadership can be implemented in the academic libraries with large number of staff by using direct and two-way interaction, as staff motivation may increase when they are trusted. Conclusion. The transformational and situational leadershipsare effective when applied to the proper circumstances to achieve set goals. Library leaders need to consider strengths and weaknesses of the leadership style.

Abstract

Introduction. The three main aspects to improve literacy movement are family, school, and society. Using social media could be useful to improve literacy as many reading materials can be accessed and freely available. However, the content should be selected to prevent from unexpected materials. Data Collection Method. Data obtained through observations of 100 participants in the development of community literacy movement. They were religious education community (pesantren) with professions such as, teachers, education staffs and students’ representatives from two levels of education within the reading village frameworks in Tanjungmekar village, Tanjungkerta, Sumedang. Analysis Data. Data were analyzed using descriptive percentage studies, and describing the results of observations. Result and Discussions. The community accesses reading material dominant using printed material, reading assignment and communication through social media have not done as expected. In general, the activities of fostering literacy in the religious education community require patterns that are in accordance with time, motivation, access, technological devices, various social media to foster literacy readiness. Conclusions. Alternative use of social media is expected be able to support community movement to build the literate village.
