Abstract

The effect of andaliman fruit juice marination on the amounts of benzo (a) pyrene in charcoal grilled duck meat were investigated in this research. Completely randomized design was used to determine the effect of 4 treatments of andaliman fruit juice concentration (w/v). Twenty four duck meat samples were devided into 4 treatment groups, those were 0% (I), 10% (II), 20% (III) and 30% (IV). Each group consisted of 6 samples. Total Fat, Tio Barbituric Acid (TBA) value and antioxidant activity were measured from all samples. The result showed there was no effect on total fat of duck meat. Antioxidant activity was 18.60 %, 18.06 %, 19.99 % and 7.54 % for andaliman fruit juice of 10%, 20%, 30% and 0%, respectively. TBA value was 1.03 %, 0.89 %, 0.09 % and 0.10 % for treatment II, III, IV and I, respectively. Antioxidant activity of andaliman fruit was decreased the amounts of Benzo (a) pyrene of duckmeat. Charcoal duck meat without andaliman fruit produced 787 ng, it was higher than charcoal duck meat with andaliman fruit (295 ng).

Abstract

The objective of study was to determine the effect of calf starter in the pre-weaning calves against the daily body weight gain. Twenty Ongole grade (PO) calves age of 1 month divided into 4 treatment groups of feed, 5 calves for each treatment. Treatment (P1) fed with extra soybean groats; (P2) soybean groats 50% + Gliricidia 50%; (P3) soybean groats 50%+ rice bran 50%; (P4) soybean groats 50%+ rejected bread 50%. Calf starter was given at age 1 month to 3 months. Observation was carried out on calves daily weight gain. This experiment was designed in Completely Randomized Design. Data was  analyzed by analysis of variance and continued Least Significant Difference Test. Statistical analysis showed that feed of (P <0.05) significantly affected the daily weight gain of the calves. Results of the study can be concluded that calf starter with soya groats provide the best daily weight gain of pre-weaning calf.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the profitability of dairy cattle business on the group of dairy farming in District of West Ungaran, Semarang Regency. This research was conducted from February to March 2016 through a survey method. Respondents in this study were lactating dairy farmers on the group of dairy farmers in District of West Ungaran. Then, location was determined by using purposive sampling. Further, respondents were determined by using census method for 40 people; those were 11 respondents of Mardi Mulyo farmer group members, 4 respondents of Sumber Hasil members, and 25 respondents of Ngudi Makmur members. Then, data were analyzed by employing the analysis of income and profitability. The result of study indicated that the average income over the cash cost was as much as IDR. 34,708,139.20 per year or IDR.2,892,344.93 per month, and the average income over the total cost was as much as IDR.4,867,808.92 per year or IDR. 405,650.74 per month. The profitability was 10.34% greater than the bank interest for farming business loans for 5% per year. It could be concluded that dairy cattle business on the group of dairy farmers in West Ungaran was profitable.

Abstract

Selection of livestock was purposed to increase productivity. A performance test was conducted using 25 males and 25 females of Sumba Ongole (SO) cattle. The performance test were conducted in three periods (2014, 2015 and 2016) for about 535 days. Descriptive statistics ws used to analyze data of body weight. Cattle with age between 300 to 600 days were used for evaluation. Result showed that heritability value of yearling weight (YW365) was 0.77+0.68 as a high category. The highest breeding value of YW365 were 66.05 kg (male) and 41.89 kg (female). The average of corrected final weight (CFW) weight were 172.55+34.22 kg (male) and 159.80+37.73 kg (female). The performance test in this study obtained six A class (1 bull and 5 cows) based on the standard minimum of body measurements for SO cattle.

Abstract

The objectiveof this study was to elucidatereproductive characteristics, potential output and dynamics population of Ongole Gradecattle in Kebumen Regency, Province of Central Java. The studywasconductedfromSeptemberto November 2015.The materials used in the study were165 farmers as respondentshavingOngole Gradecattle. The research method used was survey. Respondent samples were taken from five districts in which the location was determined by using purposive sampling. Data were collected through direct interviews with livestock farmers as respondents. The analysis used wasdescriptive analysis. The results showed that the age at first mating was 26.87 month, S/C was 1.64, post-partum mating was4.52 month, weaning age was 3.97 month, calving interval was 14.32 month, and the birth rate topopulation was45.5%. Reproductive efficiency value was 91.8%, natural increase was 44.68%, and net replacement rate of bull and heifer were 1,209% and 253%,respectively, andtotal output 44.11%. Population dynamics of Ongole Gradecattle from 2009 to 2014 fluctuated with average growthwas -4.84%. In 2019, cow population of Ongole Gradewasestimated about 68.381 heads. In conclusion Kebumen Regencyhasa relatively high potential output of Ongole Gradecattle thatis44.11% and population dynamics from 2010 to 2014 fluctuated with average of decrease growth is 4.84%. Estimation of cow’s population of Ongole Grade cattle willincrease 16.7% per year.

Abstract

Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) is an enzyme produced by SCD gene which is responsible for a conversion of saturated fatty acids (SFA) to mono-unsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) in adipose tissue. This enzyme affects the fats in intramuscular so having influence on marbling. The purpose of this study was to obtain the polymorphisms of the SCD gene and their associations with meat quality traits in Bali cattle. The number of samples used were 48 heads of cattle consisted of 24 bulls and 24 cows from BPTU-HMT Bali cattle in the province of Bali. The SCD gene has been amplified using forward primer 5’-ACC CCT TGG TGT GTG GTT GTT CTT C-3 ‘and reverses primer 5'-CCT GAC GAT ACT ATG TTT CTA CTT C-3'. The polymorphisms of the SCD gene were identified by direct sequencing method. Meat quality traits such as thick of longissimus dorsi (TLD), thick of back fat (TBF), thick of fat rump (TFR), thick of rump (TR), marbling score (MS), and the percentage of intramuscular fat (PIMF) were analyzed using the Veterinary Ultrasound Scanner. To determine Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium status, both allele and genotype frequencies were analyzed using GENEPOP program (V3.2). Association of the SCD gene SNP and meat quality traits was analyzed by GLM. This result showed that there were 5 monomorphic SNPs (c.10153A>G, c.10318C>A, c.10329C>T, g.10394G>A, g.10486A>C) and 3 polymorphic SNPs (g.10360G>A, g.10428C>T, g. 10487G>A) were in HW equilibrium. Association analysis showed that g.10428C>T SNP significantly affected marbling score (MS) and percentage of intramuscular fat (PIMF) (P<0.05). Based on these results, g.10428C>T SNP of the SCD gene may be used as a candidate marker to select meat quality traits in Bali cattle.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the fermentability and nutrient digestibility of concentrate feed containing Indigofera zollingeriana using in vitro technique. Randomized complete block design was used on 3 types of concentrate feed and 4 groups (replicates) of goat's rumen liquid. The concentrate feeds were R1, R2 and R3 containing I. zollingeriana at 0 (control), 20 and 40%, respectively. Variables observed were total gas production, in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), organic matter (IVDOM), and crude protein (IVDCP), volatile fatty acid (VFA) profiles and NH3 concentration. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results showed that there was no significant effect of R3 on IVDMD, IVDOM and IVDCP as compared to R1 and R2. However, there was significant difference (P<0.05) of the parameters between R1 and R2 (P<0.05). There was no significant effect (P<0.05) of different Indigofera levels on total gas production. The partial VFA of each concentrate feeds was not significantly different, but the percentage of acetic acids of concentrates containing I. zollingeriana were higher than those of control (P<0.05). The concentration of rumen NH3 of R2 was lower than R1 and R3 (P<0.05) even though the IVCPD of R2 was higher than R1. It could be concluded that the inclusion of I. zollingeriana as concentrate feed ingredient at 20% maximum level .
