Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the principal’s planning in improving the performance of the guidance and counseling teachers at State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 17 Banda Aceh by observing the personality of each teacher. The data were collected by doing direct observation and interview with the principal, the vice-principal, the school supervisors, and the guidance and counseling teachers of State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 17 Banda Aceh. The sampling technique, the observation, and  the interview in collecting the data was equipped with a list of questions that is able to find out the information related to the activity of supervising teachers done by the principal of State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 17 Banda Aceh. The results indicated that the guidance and counseling teachers, the principal and the staffs were involved in compiling the planning of guidance and counseling program. This involvement gave positive impact on the effectiveness of the program. In addition, the guidance and counseling teachers have showed good performance and mature personality. However, the strategies in improving the performance of guidance and counseling teachers such as providing a special room for guidance and counseling activities and scheduling guidance and counseling subject for each class should be more considered.  Keywords: principal’s management, guidance and counseling teacher’s performance

Abstract

The principal is the person responsible for improving the professional competence of teachers in the school. The purpose of this research is looking at program arrangement, program implementation, and obstacles encountered. The research methodology used in this study was qualitative technique, and for data collection was done by way of documentation, observation and interview. The sources of data in this study were gathered from the principal and teachers. The result of this study showed that the programs used by the principal in improving the professional competence of teachers were to require the teachers to make RPP, syllabus, annual program, and prepare the teaching materials before the learning and teaching process implemented. There are two strategies used in improving the professional competence of teachers: Formal and Non Formal. Formal strategy were including teacher training, professional training, seminars, while the Non-Formal strategy were emphasizing discipline and motivating teachers. The obstacles faced by the head of SD Negeri 13 Banda Aceh were the lack of teachers and even some existing teachers did not master the IT, and the limited time obtained by teachers at the time following the training and so forth.

Abstract

Academic supervision aims at influencing and developing the behavior of the teacher in managing the learning process at school. The purpose of this study was to find out: the implementation of academic supervision for the completeness of teacher administration, discipline of teachers, the commitment of teachers, and the obstacles to the implementation of academic supervision to manage the learning process. Method with a qualitative approach, data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation studies. Subjects of the study were principal and teachers. The results of the research showed that: (1) the implementation of academic supervision for the completeness of teacher administration has been carried out well by the principal. The principal as the supervisor always tried to guide and direct the teachers, mainly in completing learning tools such as annual program, semester program, syllabus, and lesson plan; (2) the implementation of academic supervision to enhance the discipline of teachers has been carried out well by the principal; (3) the implementation of academic supervision to improve the commitment of teachers have been applied well by the principal; and (4) the obstacles to the implementation of academic supervision in the management of the learning process was lack of time of principal because of other tasks. The academic supervision was conducted by the vice principal and senior teachers, but the improvement and guidance were not well implanted.Keywords: academic supervision, principal, and teacher performance

Abstract

ABSTRACTSchool organizational culture has an important role in realizing academic and non academic quality standards in schools. School organizational culture born of noble values embodied in a shared vision among all components of the school, an effective school organizational culture grows and develops continuously in the hope of providing characteristics for the development of the character of learners. in general, this study aims to describe the school organizational culture in the character formation of learners in SMA Negeri 1 Kota Lhokseumawe. Through the preparation of school culture formation programs, the implementation of school culture formation programs, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors in the establishment of school organizational culture. This research uses descriptive method with qualitative approach with data collection technique through observation, interview, and documentation study. Research subjects are element of school residents consisting of: principals, vice principals, vice principals, teachers, and learners. The results of the study showed that: (1) the program of establishing a school organizational culture containing religious programs (ROHIS), non-smoking and drug-free school programs, healthy and clean school culture, scouting programs, youth red cross, paskibraka program, PPPK) literacy program, extracurricular program for all subjects, and honesty canteen program; (2) the implementation of the school organizational culture formation program involves all stakeholders, the role and ability of all stakeholders, the results of the implementation of the school organizational culture program, the result (3) the inhibiting factors facing the school lack of faculty yag mastering scouting, male religion, lack of support from some teaching staff, there are parents of learners who are less supportive of school organizational culture values, and the influence of foreign culture and development of science and technology contributes negatively.Keywords: culture, school organization, and student character

Abstract

One of supervisory functions is to help both school and teachers do their work in order to level up the quality of educational institutions. The objective of this study was to know supervision programs, the implementation supervision, follow up action, and obstacles faced during the academic supervision work to develop teachers’ performance at Elementary School 3 in Peukan Pidie. The method employed in this study was descriptive method with qualitative approach. The data were collected by means of observation, interview, and documentation study. The subjects of this study covered the school principal, and teachers. The research illustrated that: (1) the academic supervision programs to accelerate teachers’ performance had been arranged and documented as outlines. (2) Academic supervision was targeting efforts to develop teachers’ performance. Supervision work covered class supervision, observation class, documentation, interview, questionnaire, and printed reports. (3) Follow up action was done by solving the obstacles faced during supervision. (4) Some of obstacles faced by the principal in doing supervision were problems in the implementation the programs that have been well-planned especially programs to develop teachers’ performance. The principal only have limited time to provide academic supervision to his teachers in terms of correctional and fostering to boost up their performance.Keywords: Academic Supervision, Principal, Teachers’ Performance

Abstract

Education facilities and infrastructure is one part of the existing management within educational institutions, facilities and infrastructure have a very important role in an organization, institution or educational institution. Without the facilities and infrastructure that support the education process is not running properly. The purpose this study is to find out a complete and accurate of management facilities and infrastructure in SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh. The approach this research is qualitative. Instruments this study are interview guides, observation guides, documentation study guide. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation, documentation. The results this study are: (1) Planning facilities and infrastructure is analyzing and selecting needs that accordance with curriculum; (2) The procurement facilities and infrastructure starts from the draft budget approved by the agency based on the available funding sources. Procurement proposals are submitted to education office and other relevant departments and school alumni; (3) Maintenance facilities and infrastructure is by organizing routine maintenance every year, and major maintenance should make a proposal to propose funds the government; (4) Inventory facilities and infrastructure is done by administering inventory based on guidance from local government; (5) The process elimination facilities and infrastructure is done by making the proposal for the elimination of unsuitable goods used submitted to the municipal administration. The conclusion this research is planning facilities and infrastructure is analyzing needs that accordance with curriculum. Abstract

The library is one of the means providing various collections of information in fulfilling and supporting the success of education quality. The quality of the library can be seen from the librarian’s management in managing the library. The purpose of this research waswas to know the planning and procurement of library collections, classification, and catalog of library collections, library system for visitor service, monitoring and evaluation of library activities program. The approach used in this study waswas a qualitative approach. The technique of collecting data was done through observation and interview. The subjects of research were the head of regional office of library and ten librarians. The results of the study indicated that: (1) the planning waswas done based on the needs of visitors, and the collection procurement system waswas done based on the analysis of visitor needs which was then conducted through routine project, purchasing, assistance, and publisher cooperation through APBK (regional revenue and expenditure budget); (2) the classification system for library collection was done in accordance with guidelines DDC (dewey decimal classification); (3) the service system used an open service system (open access). The open access does not run smoothly due to the limited space, where the reading room of children, adolescents, general, storytelling space and reference space are situated in one place; (4) supervision was carried out in every activity program while the evaluation was done at the end of the year. The supervision and assessment did not find the optimal result because it was not implemented based on the indicators made. Depending on the results of the study, it is recommended that the head of the library involve librarians in managing library management and pay attention to improving facilities and infrastructure so that the purpose and function of the library will work well.Keyword: management, librarian and library

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the principal’s management behavior in improving the teachers’ pedagogical competence at State Junior High School 6 of Banda Aceh.  This qualitative research was conducted by means of a descriptive method.  The results showed that (1) the program was arranged at the beginning of each academic year by creating a TPS in accordance with the results of discussions and meetings with several related parties. The program arranged in the RKAS consisted of workshop and training in writing lesson plans, making exam content outlines, preparing teaching instruments, conducting classroom action research, supervising classes, and doing IHT and school self-evaluation. In addition, (2) the implementation of the program was started with dividing tasks and authorities, conducting meetings, sharing information, and briefing. Moreover, a reward was given to every teacher with good performance while each teacher with poor performance received punishment. However, (3) there was no instrument used as the guideline in the evaluation of each workshop, classroom action research, and IHT. The results of evaluation were documented and presented to each teacher or a group of teachers in order to be considered in the following year program. Lastly, (4) lack of workshop and training, time and motivation to read relevant books or journals.Keywords: management, behavior of principal, pedagogical competence of teacher

Abstract

Performance is the result of employees. Performance has to do with ability and motivation. This study aims to determine the performance of school administration through the implementation of fingerprint attendance at SMK Negeri 3 Banda Aceh. To achieve this goal, this research uses qualitative approach with descriptive method. The data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Research subjects are principal, head of administration and school administration staff. The results showed that: The performance of school administration staff at SMK Negeri 3 Banda Aceh is good and professional. The Effort to improving their professionalism are: (1) training and socialization; (2) learn independently. The effort of the principal to improve professional school administration staff that principal gives chance for them on training and socialization and also coaching, and supervising. The factors affect of performance and professionalism of school administration staff are: a) Motivation. b) Leadership. c) Infrastructure facilities. d) Working climate. The application of finger print has been good in discipline and through the implementation of this application, the performance of school administration staff developed with quantity, quality and productivity of work.Keywords: Performance of school administration staff, and Implementation of Fingerprint

Abstract

The leadership of a principal as an educator should have a power to guide teachers and students, to develop education professionals, to follow the updates of technology, and to demonstrate teaching skill. This study aimed at finding out: principal leadership to develop teachers’ skill in designing lesson plan, teachers’ responsibility in teaching, and teachers’ commitment in supervising and evaluating the teaching and learning process. This study employed a descriptive method with qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation. The subjects of the study were the principal and teachers. The results: (1) Program to elevate learning quality, the implementation process of the program is presented in the preparation process of designing teaching instruments such as syllabus, annual program, semester program, and lesson plans. These instruments are main tool which should be prepared by teachers before they start teaching; (2) Principal leadership in terms of developing teachers’ responsibility in teaching was done in a persuasive way; and (3) Principal leadership in dealing with teachers’ commitment in the process of doing supervision and evaluation towards teaching and learning process is done with paternalistic leadership. This was done to level up teachers’ creativity without any compulsion. Keywords: Leadership, Educator, and Teachers’ Creativity.
