Abstract

ABSTRACTAcetylcholine is a conducting compound of nerve excitatory (neurotransmitter), while acetylcholinesterase is an enzyme that can hydrolyze the acetylcholine into choline and acetic acid. This reaction is needed so that the nerves can return to take a rest after the activation process, but it can cause damage to the cells in the brain. The most common case is dementia characterized by memory loss. The prevalence of this disease is lower in China and some other Asian countries compared to the United States. It supposed because food consumption commonly by Asians contain vegetables. Extracts derived from vegetables potentially inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme which related to chemical contents of the plant. This research aims to investigate the inhibitory activity of acetylcholinesterase enzyme from 4 types of vegetables namely soybean sprouts (bean sprout of Glycine max (L.) Merr.), green bean sprouts (bean sprout of Vigna radiata), carrot (Daucus carota L.), and winged beans (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) DC.) by in vitro with the Ellman method. Total phenolic and flavonoids contents from fourth types of extracts were also determined. The winged beans extract had the smallest total phenolic and flavonoid contents, but the inhibitory activity against AChE was the biggest. The results showed that IC50 extract of winged beans was 893.86 μg/ml, IC50 carrot extract higher than 1500 μg/ml while the other extracts had no activity. The winged beans extract potential to be further developed as an inhibitor AChE.Keywords : inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, IC50, vegetables

Abstract

ABSTRACT Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can cause side effects of gastric ulcers. Based on previous research, it is known that pumpkin contains flavonoids which can protect the gastric mucosa. The aim of this study was to determine the gastroprotective effect of ethanol extract of Cucurbita moschata (Duch.) Poir fruit in male rats Wistar-induced by aspirin. The study used a randomized matched posttest only control group design. Cucurbita moschata (Duch.) Poir fruit extraction was carried out by ultrasonic method. A total of 24 rats were divided into 6 groups: normal control (CMC Na 0,5%; ulcer control (CMC Na 0,5%); positive control (ranitidine HCl 10 mg/kg BW); treatment group (Cucurbita moschata (Duch.) Poir fruit ethanol extract at dose of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW). Treatments lasted for 14 days. One hour after administering the test solution on the 14th day, all rats were given 200 mg/kg BW of aspirin (except normal controls) orally, then fasted for 12 hours. On the 15th day, all rats were sacrificed, dissected and their stomachs were taken. Gastric histology preparations were made with hematoxylin-eosin staining, microscopically read, discussed the number and severity of ulcers. Both data were processed and analyzed by Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney (95% confidence level). Abstract

ABSTRACT People on Timor island use Faloak (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br.) bark as herbal remedy to cure diseases such as liver diseases, gastroenteritis and as stamina booster. This study aims to analyze the ability of anticancer fraction of faloak bark ethanol extract.  The mashed  bark of  faloak  plants extracted by maceration method using ethanol. The ethanol extract fractionated using preparative thin layer chromatography with  mixture  mobile phase which, chloroform, n-butanol, ethyl acetate with ratio (3: 4: 1,5). Chromatogram detected with visible light, UV254, UV366, and cerium sulfate reagent, then marked. Fraction obtained five fractions.  Cytotoxic  test against T47D cell and Vero cell  conducted using MTT, IC50  and selectivity sndex (SI) used as an anticancer efficacy parameter. Fraction 4  showed moderate anticancer activity with IC50 of 21.89 μg/mL in T47D cell line. Keywords: Faloak bark, anticancer activiy, T47D cell line

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is identification and analysis of the macronutrient glucomannan from porang tuber (Amorphophallus onchopyllus). The stages done in this research are extraction, identification, and macronutrient analysis of glucomannan of the porang tuber. Prior to extraction, the oxalic acid was removed from porang tuber using mixture of 2% lime juice and 5% lime, then the glucomannans was extracted using ultrasonic method. The glucomannan then was identified using Fourier transform infra red spectrometer (FTIR) instrument and macronutrient analyzer such as Soxhlet method for fats and fibers, Kjedahl method for protein, and Antrone method for carbohydrates. The results of identification using FTIR showed the presence of β-pyranose at wave numbers of 900-810 cm -1 . The carbonyl on on acetyl group was found at 1726 cm-1 . The area between 870-800 cm-1 showed the β-glycosidic and β-manosidic compounds. The C-O ether group was shown in the area of 1260-1200 cm -1 , while for C-O alcohol was shown in the area of 1050 cm-1 showed the C-O bond in alcohol. At 2925 cm-1 it showed C-H, while at 3000-3700 cm-1 O-H group. The levels of porang glucomannan macronutrients included fat at 0.50%, protein at 1.05%, fiber at 22.34%, and carbohydrates at 31.33%.Key word: Porang tuber, glucomannan, FTIR, macronutrient analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Counseling is a precious job as known as pharmacists have a provide pharmaceutical services. Counseling given to the publics for drug therapy, treatment, and the drugs with special dosage form is very important to increase publics knowledge. The purpose of this study was to increase the awareness of pharmacists to counseling provide to the public, and increase the public knowledge when using the drugs with special dosage form in Ketanggungan – Brebes regency. Fifty respondents who participated in this study with observasional cohort design. The data collection in pre-test and post-test prospective. Analysis test used is non parametric t test using Wilcoxon alternative test. The last education status of respondents was dominated by Senior High School and the monthly visit to the pharmacy was less than five times as 27 respondents. The results obtained from this study are p = 0.001 and the mean difference is 11.22 with pre-test score mean was 27,54 and post-test was 38,76. There are significant results on the knowledge of the use of drugs with special dosage form after the pharmacist provides counseling. Abstract

ABSTRACTBreadfruit leaves contain flavonoid compounds that can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Breadfruit leaf extract is practical and effective formulated in ointment preparations. The base combination of PEG 400 and PEG 4000 decreases the melting point of PEG 4000, so that it is compatible and can increase the penetration of drugs in the skin. The objective of this study to determine the breadfruit leaf extract ointment with a combination of PEG 400 and PEG 4000 bases as well as antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Breadfruit leaf extract (BLE) was obtained by maceration with 70% ethanol. Salve preparations were made into III formulas with variations in base concentrations of PEG 400 and PEG 4000, namely (F1) 75%: 25%, (F2) 50%: 50%, (F3) 25%: 75%, using the fusion method. Antibacterial activity test used agar well diffusion method. Kruskal Wallis test and Mann Whitney test used for analyzed data from antibacterial activity test. The ointment of Breadfruit leaves extract showed the color of brown ointment, semi-solid form, distinctive aroma of breadfruit leave. All of three ointment formulas have antibacterial activity indicated by the formation of inhibitory zones around the well. All of three ointment formulas have significant differences which means the combination of PEG 400 and PEG 4000 can affect antibacterial activity of BLE ointment. The higher of the concentration PEG 4000 compared PEG 400 caused inhibiton zone become smaller that means the potency of antibacterial decreased. Abstract

ABSTRACT The free radicals exposure from daily activities can cause the damage the skin, therefore to avoid this damage effect can use antioxidants compounds . Brown rice bran is rice milling waste which has high antioxidant with IC50 is 43,2349 ppm. Efforts to increase the economic value of rice bran high in antioxidant compounds is by processing rice bran into transparent soap products. This research was conducted to analyze the quality characteristics of transparent red rice bran soap (Oryza nivara) based on used cooking oil. The quality characteristics of transparent rice soap which includes organoleptic soap, pH, foam power, free alkali, and water content. The data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the results of research with SNI 06-3532 -1994 Based on the results of the study obtained the results of the characteristics of soap that meets the quality characteristics of SNI 06-3532-1994 soap requirements with a pH of 10,2 , foam power of 2,54 cm, free alkali of 0,034%, and 3,85% moisture content. Abstract

Antioxidants in the ethanolic extract of suji leaves (Pleomele angustifolia) have the potential as a sunscreen. The use of chitosan in the nanoparticle system is able to protect the degradation of flavonoids due to the influence of temperature and light. Tween 80 and cetyl alcohol play a strategic role in the formation of cream preparations. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of sunscreen cream with variations of Tween 80-cetyl alcohol containing the active ingredient of ethanol extract of suji leaves encapsulated in a nanoparticle system. Chitosan nanoparticles of suji leaf ethanol extract (KEEDS) were prepared using ultrasonic agitation. KEEDS nanoparticles were made into cream preparations with variations of Tween 80-cetyl alcohol (T80:SA) FI (3:3)%, FII (3:10)%, FIII (10:10)%. The formed cream was observed for organoleptic, homogeneity, type of cream, and measured the value of pH, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, and sunscreen activity using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 290–320 nm. Organoleptic data, homogeneity, pH and cream type were analyzed descriptively, while the spreadability, adhesion, viscosity and sunscreen activity were analyzed using ANOVA with 95% confidence limit. KEEDS nanoparticle cream visually looks homogeneous, with a brownish white color, soft texture, and the aroma of suji leaves. The pH value of the preparation is 4.74-4.88, the type of cream is O/W. The variation of the T80:SA combination resulted in significant differences in the values of dispersion, adhesion, viscosity and sunscreen activity between the three formulas (sig < 0.05).

Abstract

INTISARI   Ekstrak kering lidah buaya dan ekstrak kental daun sirih merah mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, saponin dan fenol yang mempunyai aktivitas sebagai antibakteri penyebab jerawat. Penelitian ini bertujuanUntuk menentukan konsentrasi ekstrak kering lidah buaya  (Aloe vera (L) brum f), untuk menentukan ekstrak kental daun sirih merah (Piper crotacum ruiz dan pav)  mempunyai daya hambat ter terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus aureus penyebab jerawat dan untuk menentukan konsentrasi kombinasi ekstrak kering lidah buaya  (Aloe vera (L) brum f)  dan ekstrak kental daun sirih merah  (Piper crotacum ruiz dan pav)mempunyai daya hambat terterhadap bakteri  Propionibacterium acnes  dan  Staphylococcus aureus  penyebab jerawat.Tahap-tahap penelitian yaitu determinasi tanaman lidah buaya dan daun sirih merah, pembuatan ekstrak, pemeriksaan ekstrak meliputi organoleptik, pH, uji skrining fitokimia serta pengujian aktivitas masing-masing ekstrak kering lidah buaya dengan konsentrasi 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% dan 35%, ekstrak kental daun sirih merah dengan konsentrasi 25%, 12,5%, 7,16%, 3,13%, 1,78% dan 0,78% serta kombinasi ekstrak kering lidah buaya dan ekstrak kental daun sirih merah dengan konsentrasi 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 7,16%, 3,13%,  dan 1,56 terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus aureus. Kombinasi ekstrak kering  lidah buaya  dan ekstrak kental daun sirih merah   memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri  Staphylococcus aureus  pada konsentrasi 1,56 % dan Propionibacterium acne   pada konsentrasi  3,13  Kata kunci : Lidah buaya, daun sirih merah, Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus.  ABSTRACT  Dried aloe vera extract and thick red betel leaf extract contains alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and phenols that have activity as an antibacterial cause of acne. The aim of this study was to determine the concentration of Aloe vera (L) brum f) extract, to determine the thick red betel leaf extract (Piper crotacum ruiz and pav) to have the inhibitory effect against the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus causes acne and  to determine the concentration of Aloe vera (L) brum f) and red thick betel leaf extract (Piper crotacum ruiz and pav) have inhibitory effect on bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus cause acne. The research stages are the determination of aloe vera and red betel leaf, extract preparation, extract examination including organoleptic, pH, phytochemical screening test and activity test of dry aloe vera extract with concentration 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% , 30% and 35%, thick red betel leaf extract with concentration of 25%, 12.5%, 7.16%, 3.13%, 1.78% and 0.78%, and combination of aloe vera extract and viscous extract red betel leaves with concentrations of 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 7.16%, 3.13%, and 1.56 against the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus. The combination of dry extract of aloe vera and thick red betel leaf extract have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at concentration 1.56% and Propionibacterium acne at concentration 3,13 %.
