Abstract

AbstractThe purposes of this research were to improve the students’ problem-solving skills, and classroom emotional environment climate using project based learning models on the environmental issues material. Subjects in this study were students of S-1 Biology Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Sukabumi. The method used in this study is a quasi-experiment with two sample classes and using pre-test post-test control group design. Data were collected by using a task of problem-solving skills, emotional environment classroom climate’s questionnaire and interview guides. Implementation of the study began with a pretest continued with learning activity and ended with posttest. The results showed that problem-solving skills and emotional environment classroom climate have improved both in the experimental classroom and in the comparator classroom. The significance test results by using a Mann Whitney non-parametric test showed that problem-solving skills and emotional environment classroom climate in the experimental class were differ significantly with the comparator classroom. Students responded positively to the model of project-based learning. Keywords:  Project Based Learning, Problem-Solving Skills, Classroom Emotional EnvironmentalClimate, Environmental Issues Material

Abstract

Abstract Science and technology learning should not just provide a collection of facts, laws and theories but rather is a process conducted by the students to acquire knowledge through interaction with the surrounding environment. The students are trained in scientific thinking critically, creatively and independently through active and meaningful learning process, for example by using the environment as a learning resource. This study aims to develop learning equipments oriented higher-order thinking skills (critical and creative) to explore the potential of biological resources of Tunda island, as a learning resource in the subject of Biotechnology. This study used research and development (R & D) method, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, validation and revision. Learning equipments that produced are RPS (lesson plans for 1 semester), the student worksheets (LKM), and evaluation (test) instruments. The results of the validation team of experts showed that the learning equipments are good categorized, with the values 77.14 for RPS, 85 for LKM, and 94 for instrument test. Criticisms and suggestions from the experts were used as the basis of revision, so that the learning equipments are eligible for learning. Keywords: Research and Development, Tunda Island, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Biotechnology Subject

Abstract

AbstractThe problem of this research is the effectiveness of learning chemical by using the method lab work in the laboratory. The main study on this research was focused on factors affecting the effectiveness of learning, covering internal and external factors. The internal factor in this research is the student’s motivation study and the external factor is the chemistry lab management. The purposes of this research are: 1) the motivation to study of high school students in South Tangerang, 2) the effectiveness of learning chemical with the use of laboratory,  3 ) analyze the contribution of the student’s motivation to study, 4) management of chemistry lab in senior high school in South Tangerang.A method of this research is a method of survey with the quantitative approach towards two public high schools and two private senior high school in South Tangerang with the total sample 200 students. The instrument used in this research is the questionnaire with Likert scale. The research result in public senior high school and private senior high school showed that in general the activity lab work in the laboratory plays an important role in supporting chemical learning and give effectiveness in understandingof chemical lesson and to increase the student’s interest in learning so that the student’s learning motivation becomes fairly high towards the chemical subjects have been taught. Keywords:Chemical Laboratory, Motivation to Study, Effectiveness of Learning

Abstract

Abstract Science learning essentially requires students to cultivate curiosity so that it triggers to conduct investigations by doing science activities. The purpose of this research is to know the profile of student activity in learning basic concept of IPA through contextual teaching and learning approach (CTL) with group investigation (GI) model. The subject of this research is Program of primary teacher education UMMGL students consisting of two classes with 83 people. The research method is descriptive. Data collection techniques were conducted by setting the focus of research, selecting informants as data sources, collecting data, assessing data quality, analyzing data, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions on the findings. From the research results can be concluded that the profile of student activity in learning basic concept of science through CTL approach with the average GI model is in very good category. Keywords: Activity, CTL, GI, Science Learning Essentially

Abstract

Abstract  This research purposed to determine the improvement of student’s scientific attitudes and critical thinking skills on the colloidal concept with implementation the learning model science environment technology and society (SETS). The method for this study is quasi-experimental with research design "Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design". Class XI student at one of SMAN in Majalengka District is the sample in this research with 62 students. The written test and the observation sheets used for collecting the data. The results showed that SETS learning for colloidal concept can enhance the student’s scientific attitude was 72,7 % (good category) and student’s critical thinking skills with N-Gain of 42% (moderate category). Increasing student’s critical thinking skills class experiment is also significantly differ from the control class. So, the students’ scientific attitudes  and critical thinking skills can improved by implementation the learning chemistry with SETS learning model Keywords: Colloidal Systems, Critical Thinking Skills, Science Environment Technology and Society (SETS), Scientific Attitude

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to obtain a description of the mastery of the concept of biology teacher candidates through the study of learning difficulties in the concept of development stage of animal embryo. The subjects of the study were 43 students of semester 6 of academic year 2013 which contracted embryology subjects. The instruments used consist of diagnostic questions (essays and multiple choice questions) and interview format. Data analysis was done quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that the mastery of the concept of students on aspects of C1 (remember) is 53% (enough); C2 (understanding) of 77% (good); C3 (applying) of 98% (excellent); And C4 (analyze) of 58% (enough). In addition, some students who experienced difficulty showed a positive response to their learning difficulties. Keywords: Assessment of Learning Difficulties, Concept Mastery, Stages of Animal Embryology Development

Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to determine correlation between learning independence attitudes and student’s learning achievement. Type of this research is a correlation study to detect the connection of learning independence attitude’s variance in relation to learning achievement variance. This study used an attitude scale to measure the student’s learning independence attitude and objective multiple-choice questions to measure the student’s learning achievement. The results showed that  there is a positive correlation (unidirectional) and significant betweenthe learning independence attitude and learning achievement. This means that the better student’s learning independence attitude, it will be the better students learning achievement. The attitude of learning independence contributed to 40.96% of students learning achievement.  Keywords: Learning Independence Attitude, Learning Achievement.
