Abstract

Kintamani dog is a local mountain type dog that lives in Sukawana Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, Bali. Research on the urinary system in Kintamani dog has never been done. This study aims to determine the morphology of anatomy and morphometrics of the kidney (ren) in Kintamani dog macroscopically and microscopically. This study used the kidney of 5 Kintamani dogs with an average age of 1-2 years old originating from the village of Sukawana. Histological observation based on Kiernan method and Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Weight measurement data, length, width, and renal thickness data were analyzed using Independent Sample T-test to compare the left and right kidney. Meanwhile, the anatomical and histological structure of the kidneys were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results showed that the left and right kidney weight was significantly different (P <0.05), while the length, width, and thickness were not significantly different (P> 0.05). Measurements of right renal morphometry, weight: 19.39 ± 4.24 g; length: 50.19 ± 2,43 mm; width: 29.57 ± 1.94 mm; cortex thickness: 6.17 ± 0.45 mm; medulla thickness: 8.48 ± 0.56 mm and pelvis thickness: 8.11 ± 1.29 mm. While the left kidney, weight: 20.51 ± 4.20 g; length: 50.88 ± 2,38 mm; width: 29.40 ± 1.65 mm; cortex thickness: 6.17 ± 0.31 mm; medulla thickness: 8.50 ± 0.49 mm and pelvis thickness: 8.95 ± 2.08 mm. Abstract

The use of antibiotics in inappropriate cattle ranches, for example, excessive doses, and no regard for drug withdrawal can cause antibiotic residues in the flesh and also the organs in livestock. The withdrawal time is the period from the last drug delivery to the livestock before the animal can be slaughtered so the meat and internal organs can be consumed. The lung is one of the internal organs distributed antibiotics that when not pay attention to the time of stopping the drug at the time of cutting the lung organ will still contain active substances from these antibiotics that cause the presence of antibiotic residues. This study aims to determine the presence of antibiotic residues in the lungs of bali cattle from several markets in Bali province. 30 lung samples were taken from several markets in five districts of Tabanan, Gianyar, Buleleng, Jembrana, and Karangasem and then tested using the bioassay method at Balai Besar Veteriner Denpasar. The results showed that 30 lung samples did not contain antibiotic residues of the penicillin, aminoglycoside, tetracycline, and macrolide groups.

Abstract

At present, surgery remains the preferred treatment for hydatid cyst. Various chemical scolicidal agents have been used for inactivation of protoscoleces during surgery, but most of them are associated with adverse side effects. In this study we investigated the effect of two commercial grape and apple vinegar on the viability of hydatid cyst protoscoleces. The protoscoleces of E. granulosus were aspirated from the infected livers and lungs of sheep slaughtered at Tiaret abattoir. 0.5 mL of two commercial grape and apple vinegar was used for 5, 10, and 15 min in the experiments. 0.1% eosin staining assessed viability of protoscoleces. All tests were carried in triplicate. The mortality rates of protoscoleces were 100% after 5min, 10 min and 15 min of incubation with grape vinegar and apple vinegar. To conclude, the results of the present survey indicated high scolicidal activity of apple vinegar and grape vinegar against protoscoleces of hydatid cyst and can be used in hydatid cyst surgery. However, further studies will be needed to confirm these results by checking this scolicidal activity in an in-vivo model.

Abstract

Broiler has high productivity in chicken meat production. The higher the small intestine villi, much greater the effectiveness of the absorption of food extracts through the small intestine epithelium. Nutrients contained in ginger are curcuminoids, minerals, essential oils, fatty oils, carbohydrates, and proteins. This study aims to determine the differences in changes in the height of broiler jejunum villi due to the administration of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. In several doses in the feed. Samples of this study were 40 male broilers aged 14 days with an average weight of 420g simultaneously divided into 4 treatments consisting of 10 replications. P0 is broiler as a control without being given curcuma flour and only given feed. P1 is broiler which is given 10 g / kg of curcuma powder by mixing it into the feed. P2 is broiler which is given 20 g / kg of temulawak flour by mixing it into the feed. P3 is broiler which is given 30 g / kg of temulawak flour by mixing it into feed, on the day 35 broilers then necropsied and taken by jejunum organ. The results of the analysis showed that the treatment of P2 and P3 had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the control (P0), but P1 was significantly different (P<0.05) on P0, P2, and P3, in P2 treatment, was not significantly different (P>0.05) with P3. The conclusions of this study indicate that the administration of curcuma flour as much as 10 g / kg of feed, is able to increase the height of jejenal villi in broilers.

Abstract

Soursop leaf (Annona muricata L) contains active compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, and tannins that act as antifungals. This study aims to determine the ability of soursop leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of Microsporum gypseum, which causing dermatitis complex in dogs. The ability of soursop leaf extract to inhibit the growth of M. gypseum was tested using the agar plate diffusion method (Kirby Bauer) with slight modification. Complete randomized design (RAL) with four treatment, i.e., soursop leaf extract 0%, 5%, 10%, and 25%, with four replication and ketoconazole as a positive control was used in the study. The results showed that the inhibitory zones formed at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 25% were 2.50 mm ± 0.00, 3.55 mm ± 0.00, and 5.00 mm ± 0, 58, respectively. Statistically, there was a highly significant difference (p <0.01) between the average inhibitory zone of each treatment. Conclusion based on the test effectiveness of the soursop leaf extract is able to inhibit the growth of M. gypseum, which causing dermatitis complex in dogs.

Abstract

Constraints, that are often faced by farmers, are pests and diseases that can reduce shrimp quality and production failure. Diseases that often attack shrimp are bacterial diseases such as vibriosis. The bacterial disease is usually treated using antibiotics. In this study, the antibiotic used was derived from Rhizophora apiculata mangrove leaf extract which contained active compounds as antibacterial. The use of R. apiculata mangrove leaf extract is expected to be able to improve the growth performance of white shrimp through enhancing the immune system. This study aims to determine the effect of R. apiculata mangrove leaf extracts on the growth performance of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). This research was conducted for 40 days. The treatment given was the addition of R. apiculata mangrove leaf extract into shrimp feed namely P1 control without the addition of extract, P2 was given 0.5% mangrove extract, P3 was given 1% mangrove extract and P4 was given 2% mangrove extract. The results obtained for the growth performance of the best treatment white shrimp on P4 (feed + mangrove extract 2%) with the results of absolute weight growth of 17.41 g, specific growth of 21.37%, survival of 93% and feed conversion of 1, 1 R. apiculata mangrove leaves can improve the growth performance of white shrimp through absolute weight growth, specific growth rate, survival and feed conversion ratio values, the best value is obtained at 2% extract dose with each value of 17.31 g, 21.37%, 93%, and 1.1%.

Abstract

Bali cattle is germplasm that must be maintained. Various efforts have been made, such as breeding, so that the population can be improved. In the breeding, management of pregnancy will be the main thing to get attention. The gestation period in cattle is an important situation in health management. In this period, physiological status must be in good condition to ensure birth and get calf or calf, which is strong enough and able to survive. Cattle who are pregnant usually tend to weak and vulnerable diseases. This study was conducted to determine the disruption of organs or body functions earlier before showing signs of pain. Blood parameters observed from 28 cows were: The total erythrocytes, the total leukocytes, Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Hb, differential leucocytes (lymphocytes, neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils, and monocytes), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobine (MCH), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobine Concentration (MCHC), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV). Blood was taken from the jugular vein. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance, with an analytical procedure using the SPSS program. The study results that the hematology of Balinese cattle at each pregnancy phase in Sobangan Badung Breeding Center is not different from non-pregnant cows.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the safety of dexamethasone use as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic on the handling of femur fracture of rats by bone graft method. The sample used was 32 male Wistar rats aged 2 months were divided into two groups, 16 rats for each. Group I was fractured rats and fixed with intramedullary pin without bone graft, whereas Group II was fractured and fixed with intramedullary pin and demineralized freeze-dried bovine bone xenograft (DFDBBX). Group I and II were then divided into two groups for each, Group IA, IB, IIA, and IIB, eight rats for each. Group IA and IIA were not injected with dexamethasone, whereas Group IB and IIB were injected with dexamethasone 0.5 mg/kg BW/ day intramuscularly. At the end of the first week, blood was collected from eight rats (two rats for each) of Group IA, IIA, IB, and IIB for total leucocytes and blood Calcium analysis. Urine was also collected for urine Calcium analysis. Rats were then killed to collect the femur for histopathologic analysis using HE staining and immunohistochemistry to analyze the expression of TGF?-1 using Streptavidin-biotin method. Subsequent sampling was conducted at the end of 2nd, 4th, and 8th weeks of treatment, respectively. The total data of leucocytes, blood, and urine Calcium were statistically analyzed using a 2x2x4 factorial method, while the histopathologic and immunohistochemistry specimens were analyzed descriptively under the microscope based on the alteration of the bones. The statistical analysis showed that dexamethasone increased the concentration of urine Calcium (p<0,05), the concentration of blood Calcium insignificantly (p>0,05) affected by dexamethasone but cause homeostatic calcium disorder and the total leucocytes significantly (p<0,05) affected by grafted materials. Histopathologic analysis of the femur showed that there was an increased infiltration of inflammatory cells in the fracture area from the group untreated with dexamethasone. Whereas the immunohistochemistry analysis showed positive results from all groups. Based on the whole analysis, it can be concluded that although dexamethasone depressed inflammation process, it can also disturb the fracture healing process.
