Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of business strategies and social capital on the performance of small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) that operate in small industry clusters. An emphasis is placed on examining the function of innovation capability in mediating this interaction. Data was acquired by sending questionnaires to various clusters in East Java, Indonesia, utilizing multi-stage sampling. The study then found 98 SME owners who had completed all of the surveys. The Partial Least Square approach was then utilized to evaluate the hypotheses using SmartPLS. The findings show that business strategies have no direct impact on performance. The impact of business strategy on performance appears to be mediated by innovation capabilities. On the other hand, social capital, as measured by bridging and linking social capital, has a direct impact on firm performance. As a result, this study suggests that SMEs improve their performance through increasing cluster social capital and increasing innovation capability. We recommend further research to replicate this study on large industry clusters. It is expected that the interplay between business strategies and social capital to performance will explain different result for the development of industry clusters.

Abstract

The worker may be paid more than the worker with whom he is associated or may receive a penalty. This study provides (1) proportion of workers into the following categories: self employed; paid workers; formal workers and informal workers, (2) determinants of segmented workers' income premiums and penalties. Using micro data from the results of the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) in February 2020, this study measures the proportion of workers' income and uses a multiple regression model to analyze the determinants of segmented workers' income premiums and penalties in Indonesia. Our findings show that the proportion of income premium and penalty is almost the same, when workers are divided into formal, informal and self-employed, which is predominantly occupied by workers receiving income penalties. A larger proportion of income premiums are received by paid workers or labourers. Years of schooling and the square of years of schooling show a significant effect on the income premium of self-employed and the opposite results on the income penalty. The same thing was found in formal workers. Age, age squared, gender, area of residence show a significant effect on the income penalty of self-employed and income premium of formal workers.

Abstract

The existence of palm oil companies should have an impact on villages around oil palm companies. However, the status of villages according to the developing village index around oil palm companies are still developing villages. The purpose of this study was to determine the sustainability status of the palm oil company's CSR program in supporting changes in village status. This research was conducted in Kubu Raya Regency with 12 villages and 12 oil palm companies. This study is based on the similarity of indicators between CSR programs and the indicators of the developing village index. The data collected includes primary data and secondary data. The analysis technique uses multidimensional scaling Rapfish. The results of the study show that the sustainability status of the CSR program has the social dimension of unsustainable status with a sustainability value of 24.56, the economic dimension with a value of 57.67 with moderately sustainable status and the environment with a value of 74.27 with moderately sustainable status. The results of the 2019-2021 IDM continue to increase, but the economic resilience index has the lowest value when compared to the social and environmental resilience index.

Abstract

Energy poverty in Indonesia has brought negative impacts on various sectors, including education which is the fourth target in the Sustainable Development Goals. This study explores how energy poverty, which is proxied by the percentage of households consuming <32.4 kwh per month in district or cities in Indonesia in 2015 and 2017, affects education, which is proxied by average years of schooling in district or cities in Indonesia in 2019. By applying the 2SLS method, the instrument variable approach used is the geographical characteristics of an area which is the mean elevation value approach in districts or cities to accurately predict the impact of energy poverty on average years of schooling. The results show a negatively significant impact on education for both energy-poor condition. The results for the first condition (2015) shows that 0.993 year of average years of schooling will be lost due to energy poverty. Whereas in the second condition (2017), 0.164 year of average years of schooling will be lost. This research also serves as an empirical evidence that energy poverty does not directly affect the average years of schooling in districts and cities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study measured the impact of Covid-19 on the total revenue of manufacturing micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Bali, in aggregate and specifically by each type of 2-digit ISIC. Using the Cobb-Douglas model, the impact of fixed capital, the number of labors, and factors related to technical inefficiency were also evaluated. According to the findings, total revenue decreased by about one-fifth during the pandemic. Specifically, the significant impact was experienced by MSEs with 2-digit ISIC: 11 and 13 in the form of a positive impact and 14 in the form of a negative impact. As expected, the two input factors had positive elasticity on the total revenue. Education is the only non-statistically significant factor associated with technical inefficiency. MSEs with male entrepreneurs, productive age groups, capital that is not dominated by own capital, applying for a loan from people's business loans (KUR), and using the internet in the business process tend to perform better. Overall, technical efficiency before and during the pandemic is comparable, ranging between 40 and 80, while the decreasing distributional pattern of technical efficiency shows for some 2-digit ISIC

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the dominant factors which influenced the proliferation of village. As commonly known, these factors are used to accelerate development based on community aspirations. West Kalimantan Province was selected as the object of research since this province is the third largest province in Indonesia but only has few numbers of municipalities. In order to speed up the development in West Kalimantan, the local government needs to proliferate the region into small ones. It will make the regional government easier to manage its control than that of municipality with a larger area. This research used logit estimation in analysis and employed data from the Statistics Indonesia of West Kalimantan Province. The findings show that there were a number of factors affecting the proliferation of villages in West Kalimantan Province in 2008–2018, namely population, unemployment, poverty and regional head periods. Conversely, variables that did not significantly influence were HDI, GRDP and regional income variables. Meanwhile, other factors that also had a significant effect, but reduce the chances of proliferation of village were average rubber production and the percentage of state electricity consumption

Abstract

This research aims to quantify the specialization stage of Indonesia, followed by the dependencies of Indonesia's imports on the aerospace sector. Since, there are still few studies about the aerospace sector, especially from an economic perspective. This research conducted to fulfill the gap studies on international trade aerospace sector phenomenon. The sample used in this research is 9 countries between 2001 – 2018. Methods will be conducted in two steps. First, by using Trade Specialization Index (TSI), we try to identify the specialization stage of each country in the aerospace sector. Second, we used Import Dependency Ratio (IDR) to identify the level of Indonesia's dependency in the aerospace sector on other countries. We found that Indonesia still reaching the introduction stage of specialization. Adding relevancy to the result, Indonesia is also considered as highly-dependent on other countries in terms of the aerospace sector. We therefore suggest that Indonesia needs to raise traction in the aerospace sector by increasing its budget and conducting technology transfers, so Indonesia’s competitiveness will raised.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of policies to accelerate tourism economic recovery affected by the Covid 19 pandemic after the Lombok West Nusa Tenggara Earthquake in 2018. This study finds disagreement between previous studies and a lack of empirical evidence. Studies that show critics say that the development of the government's economic recovery strategy after the natural disaster in Lombok-Sumbawa is considered not optimal. The quantitative research design focuses on two themes, namely: 1) central and local government policies; and 2) planning strategies in the context of accelerating tourism economic recovery. The first finding reveals that the government's policy through the medium-term tourism economic recovery strategy as stated in the 2019-2023 RPJMD carried out by the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government has not been maximized. This can be seen clearly from the high number of poor people in West Lombok at 17 percent with an unemployment rate of 3.35 percent. As a result of the implementation of social distancing in the midst of the Covid 19 Pandemic and the post-earthquake on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, since 2018 there has been a decline in tourist visits due to the earthquake and the Covid-19 pandemic. The strategy carried out is data collection and support activities through priority programs that have been divided into 4 clusters to increase 3A (attractions, accessibility, and amenities for tourist villages/new tourist villages). In addition, a Digital-Based Promotion Strategy for Unaffected Destinations which intensifies promotion with a BAS (Branding, Advertising for e-commerce, Selling) strategy. The expected implication is that this research can contribute to accelerating the recovery of the tourism economy globally which has been affected by Covid 19 and after natural disasters

Abstract

West Nusa Tenggara is one of the central province of tourist destinations in Indonesia. This study aims to identify the consistency between planning and budgeting of the tourism sector in West Nusa Tenggara Province. Consistency analysis is done by analyzing the vision, mission, program, and budget. In addition, it compares planning and budgeting according to variance and percentage change between documents. The results showed that the level of consistency of the RPJPD and RPJMD as well as the RKPD in West Nusa Tenggara Province could be categorized as "excellent". In addition, this consistency is reflected in the total variance and standard deviation. Meanwhile, the analysis of the RPJMD and Renstra shows that there is a mismatch between the vision and mission and is categorized as "bad". Finally, the analysis of the consistency of budget values in the RPJMD and DPA shows that there are inconsistencies in planning and budgeting. Furthermore, the comparison between the target and the realization shows that in 2021, West Nusa Tenggara will not be able to achieve its target. These results indicate that the local government should evaluate the tourism program in the planning and budgeting process to obtain optimal results.

Abstract

The Ukraine-Soviet Union war and the Covid-19 pandemic made the world economy experience complex problems. Indonesia was also affected, especially the decline in exports, so it needed to find new trading partners. This study aims to determine the potential diversification of Indonesia's export market to non-traditional countries, namely Turkey, Brazil, Georgia and the Russian Federation as well as 10 economic commodities. The data used in this study is secondary data. This data is obtained through the GTAP database (Global Trade Analysis Project) version 10. In this GTAP database there are input - output data from 121 countries representing 98% of world GDP. The results of this study are Brazil and Turkey can become Indonesia's trading partners, while Georgia and the Russian Federation have little opportunity to establish trade cooperation with Indonesia
