Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify directive illocutionary acts in school slogans. This study aims to investigate several categories of directive illocutionary speech acts in the school slogans at MTS Negeri 3 Tangerang. The method used by researchers is qualitative descriptive methods by referring to Searle's speech acts theory. The results showed that three kinds of directive speech acts are utilized in the school slogans; advising twenty utterances, commanding one utterance, requesting two utterances. Based on the results, the most dominant type of directive speech acts used was advising with 20 occurrences. It means that the school provides a lot of advice to their students (addressee) through these school slogans. In addition, context and co-context have a very important role in understanding the slogans thus the slogan found contains more to the philosophy of life and educational values.

Abstract

This study attempts to analyze the grammatical errors in the writings of Indonesian EFL students through the Error Analysis (EA) approach. The subject of this research included the theses which are written by the university students of English Letters Department at one of the State University, Jakarta. The data sources were taken from chapter four, the conclusion, and the suggestion section from six students’ theses. In this study, the data collection was carried out through several steps: the authors collected data from students, identified grammatical errors, classified errors in students' thesis to determine the frequency of errors, and calculated the data into percentages. The results indicate that there are eleven types of errors commonly found in students’ writing. They are 5% errors of subject-verb and agreement, 2% errors in word order, 13% errors in preposition, 20% errors in article, 2% errors in plurality form, 19% errors in punctuation, 5% errors in auxiliary, 21% errors in unnecessary words, 5% errors in word choice, 5% errors in parallel structure, and 2% errors in redundancy. The writer observed 125 total errors. The errors are dominated in the form of punctuation, article, and unnecessary words types. The research unveils that students make common grammatical errors encouraged by the incapability to accomplish, recognize and understand the rules of the foreign language and its limitations, a little mastery of grammar and vocabulary.

Abstract

Ideologi khilafah merupakan sebuah ideologi yang kerap kali diinterpretasikan sebagai ideologi yang cukup radikal. Umumnya ideologi khilafah menyoroti isu-isu politik yang bertentangan dengan syariat Islam. Namun, kali ini ideologi khilafah juga menyoroti isu sosial, yaitu LGBT. LGBT merupakan isu yang kontroversial secara global. Sementara ideologi khilafah merupakan sebuah paham yang konsepnya bertentangan dengan negara Indonesia.  Penyebaran ideologi khilafah sudah dilarang oleh pemerintah Indonesia. Namun eksistensinya masih hadir dalam rupa yang baru, yaitu pada sebuah buletin bernama KAFFAH. Kajian ini akan mengungkapkan bagaimana LGBT direpresentasikan dalam perspektif ideologi khilafah. Data dalam penelitian ini berasal dari artikel tentang LGBT pada media Kaffah, edisi 025 yang dirilis pada 26 Januari 2018. Selanjutnya data dikaji secara kualitatif dengan metode analisis deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan teori Transitivitas sebagai teori yang menyatakan bahwa bahasa merupakan representasi dari pengalaman manusia. Transitivitas ini berfokus pada tiga komponen, yaitu proses, partisipan, dan sirkumtan. Berdasarkan uraian Transitivitas, diketahui bahwa dalam perspektif ideologi khilafah, LGBT bukan hanya direpresentasikan sebagai masalah sosial, tapi juga sebagai implikasi dari tidak adanya Undang-undang yang bersumber dari hukum Islam yang secara eksplisit dapat menjerat LGBT. The khilafah ideology is an ideology that is often interpreted as a fairly radical ideology. Generally, the ideology of the khilafah highlights political issues that are contrary to Islamic law. However, the Khilafah ideology also highlights social issues, namely LGBT. LGBT is a controversial issue globally. While the khilafah ideology is a concept that is contrary to the Indonesian state. The Indonesian government has banned the spread of the khilafah ideology. But its existence is still present in a new form such as a bulletin called KAFFAH. This study aims to describe how LGBT is represented in the perspective of khilafah. The data of this study is a KAFFAH bulletin article, 025 editions, which released on January 26, 2018. Furthermore, the data were analyzed qualitatively by descriptive analysis methods. This study uses the Transitivity theory approach as a theory which states that language is a representation of human experience. The Transitivity focuses on three components; process, participants, and circumstance. Based on the description of Transitivity, LGBT is not only represented as a social problem but also as an implication of the absence of laws that originate from Islamic law which can explicitly ensnare LGBT.

Abstract

The study investigated Indonesia–English translation of idiomatic expressions, focusing on the idioms, in one of Indonesian best seller fiction story, Bumi Manusia  which was translated into English as This Earth of Mankind. The study identified the types of the translation strategies by the translators to reproduce the idioms from SL in TL and the accuracy level of their latest meanings in TL. Qualitative research method in the design of content analysis was employed. The result portrayed that the most dominant strategy employed by the translator was paraphrasing. The translator reproduced the original meaning of the idioms by selecting common vocabularies in TL (non-idiom forms) that shared identical meanings with the idioms in SL or explaining the idioms in SL at longer statements in TL. The other idioms could be translated equivalently in the form of idioms in TL, but they were realized in different lexical words from SL. Furthermore, most of idioms achieved equivalent meanings, but decreased meanings were unavoidable. Thus, it can be seen that the translator attempted to recreate the similar equivalence meaning of the idioms from SL through paraphrasing strategy instead of omitting the idioms in TL. Most of the translated idioms could be reproduced similarly with the original idioms.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini untuk membantu misi Yayasan Pondok Pesantren Yatim Piatu & Dhuafa Bahrul Ulum dalam menyelengarakan pelatihan peningkatan keterampilan dalam bidang literasi dasar. Sedangkan, secara spesial tujuan aktivitas pengabdian pada warga ini ialah menyokong Yayasan Pondok Pesantren Yatim Piatu & Dhuafa Bahrul Ulum dalam meningkatkan minat dan pemahaman peserta didiknya dalam dunia literasi. Selain itu, memberikan penyuluhan soft skill kepada para peserta untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi antara lain membaca, menulis, menyimak dan lain-lain. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui virtual dengan peserta dari Yayasan Pondok Pesantren Yatim Piatu & Dhuafa Bahrul Ulum. Kegiatan PKM dilaksanakan pada tanggal 16-18 Oktober 2021 dan dimulai pukul 09.00-12.00 WIB. Hasil dari kegiatan ini memberikan kesimpulan bahwa para peserta sangat tertarik dengan solusi untuk menumbuhkembangkan budaya literasi. Hal ini terbukti dari antusiasme peserta dengan menyoalkan perihal yang berkaitan dengan materi yang dituturkan. Harapan dari adanya kegiatan PKM ini adalah adanya peningkatan kemampuan khususnya pada literasi para peserta dan agar bangsa ini bisa mengejar ketertinggalan pada literasi.

Abstract

Kesantunan berbahasa menjadi hal yang sangat penting dalam upaya mewujudkan generasi milenial yang memiliki kepedulian dalam menggunakan bahasa yang santun. Remaja merupakan tonggak awal dalam menentukan masa depan bangsa ini terutama dalam hal menggunakan bahasa. Hal ini sangat penting karena adanya penggunaan bahasa yang tidak santun akan mampu merusak generasi kita kedepannya terutama generasi milenial saat ini. Salah satu wadah remaja yang bisa merangkul warga remaja di sebuah lingkungan RW adalah remaja karang taruna, salah satunya adalah remaja karang taruna di lingkungan RW 10 Permata Mansion. Remaja karang taruna memiliki peranan yang penting dalam upaya meningkatkan kepedulian remaja dalam menggunakan bahasa di masyarakat. Mitra dalam program ini adalah remaja karang taruna di RW 10 Permata Mansion, Kota Depok.  Masalah utama yang dihadapi oleh mitra adalah kurangnya kepedulian terhadap penggunaan bahasa yang santun di masyarakat. Dampak dari adanya perkembangan teknologi dan video games membuat remaja milenial semakin kurang sopan dan cenderung menggunakan bahasa yang kasar dalam kegiatan berkomunikasi sehari-hari. Hal ini sangat jelas terlihat apalagi di masa Pandemi Covid-19 seperti saat ini dimana remaja sering berkumpul bersama untuk bermain game atau bermain bersama. Terlihat bahwa mereka banyak menggunakan bahasa yang kurang sopan dan kasar. Hal ini tentunya akan memberikan dampak yang buruk apalagi tidak hanya remaja saja yang bercakap-cakap, ada juga anak kecil yang tentunya akan mempengaruhi mereka dalam berbicara. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya solusi bagi mitra untuk mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kesadaran terkait pentingnya kesantunan berbahasa di dalam kegiatan berkomunikasi sehari-hari. Kegiatan ini penting dilakukan di masa Pandemi Covid-19 ini sebagai upaya agar remaja terbiasa untuk menggunakan bahasa yang santun pada saat berbicara di lingkungan masyarakat. Abstract

Wanita memegang peranan penting dalam tercukupinya panganpadasebuah keluarga. Penamaan rumah makan yang mengandung unsur wanita memberikan penegasan akan pentingnya peran ini. Makalah ini membahas penamaan rumah makan yang mengandung unsurnama wanita di Kecamatan Pamulang, Tangerang Selatan. Tujuan dari makalah ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan strategi penamaan serta polapenanda unsur wanita dalam penamaan tersebut. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode simak dengan teknik catat.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua strategi penamaanrumah di Kecamatan Pamulang yaitu strategi konvergensi dan strategi disvergensi.Selanjutnya, sekurang-kurangnya terdapat empat macam pola penanda unsur wanita dalam penamaan rumah makan di Kecamatan Pamulang. Pola penanda unsur wanitapada penamaan tersebut meliputi penggunaan nama diri berciri wanita, penggunaan panggilan kekerabatan berciri wanita + nama diri berciri wanita, penggunaan panggilan kekerabatan berciri wanita, dan penggunaan panggilan kehormatan berciri wanita + nama diri berciri wanita.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of speech between e-commerce administrators and customers and describe the violation of the principle of cooperation in the interaction between e-commerce administrators and customers. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The object in this study is the speech between e-commerce administrators and customers in the form of chat. The data found are 23 data. It was obtained by using basic techniques in the form of reading chat conducted by admins and customers in terms of data collection, collecting library data sources and other data sources, and reading library data sources. The theoretical reference used to examine the data is by using Grice's pragmatic approach. The results showed that there is a violation of the principle of cooperation carried out by the speakers. They are a form of violation of the principle of cooperation; the maxim of quantity as many as 12 data, the maxim of relevance as much as 4 data, and the maxim of manner as many as 7 data. In this study, the most dominant violation of the cooperative principle is the maxim of quantity. In the interaction between e-commerce administrators and customers, there are many utterances involving sellers and buyers in bargaining for goods, so that many utterances spoken by admins exceed the information that customers need. In this case, the admin as the seller must offer the goods even though the customer does not need them in the context. In addition, the violation of the maxims is used to make their goods sell.

Abstract

This activity aims to help SMP Negeri 8 Tangerang Selatan that has the desire to shape the character of its students in aspect of language use. Nowadays, many cases of the impolite language in social media make a quite bad impact to its users. One effect that can be seen immediately is that the users can get into a trouble because of the language that they use. The use of this impolite language occurs because there is a lack of awareness of social media users about patterns of language politeness and the negative impacts that occur when the practice of language impoliteness is done, especially for users at an early age, so that the activities carried out are aimed at stimulating media users social especially young social media users so that they are aware of how to use polite language on social media properly and correctly. The hope to be achieved is the completion of this activity the students at SMP Negeri 8 Tangerang Selatan can apply polite language when using social media and avoid using inappropriate language so that they avoid legal issues, especially if the use of this impolite language used for harassment or insulting others, so students can sort and think when they will comment or write something on their social media.

Abstract

The literacy culture of literary works today needs to be encouraged. Considering several government programs that insert some literacy-related teaching were developed and carried out in schools. Like some literacy movements pursued by the Ministry of Education and Culture in schools to improve children's reading ability, especially at the junior and senior high schools. But it should also be noted that literacy culture is not only focused on reading but also present in other forms of language activities namely writing. It cannot be denied that the art of writing is very important. Not only to write ideas into writing but also by writing, the information that we want to convey can spread well especially in this digital era, an article now will be very easily published even posted through social media accounts or other digital media. In order for children or especially students to write well and develop their ideas, the PKM team from the Faculty of Literature, Indonesian Literature Study Program held a dedication to the community to foster a literacy culture in the field of writing. The training that was held by the PKM team was a training on writing short stories with the theme of teenagers who are very close to children, especially junior high school students. The activity that took place at the South Tangerang 8 Middle School is expected to help children become more creative and can help them develop their writing skills.
