Abstract

Deaf are those who experience interference with their sense of hearing, so that hearing is very low even at all can not hear what is being said or what was told to him. Deaf people use nonverbal language in communication. The pattern of nonverbal communication of the deaf and the people in the guntung river in Kateman subdistrict, Indragiri, downstream in the process of interaction is expected to be able to change the mindset of deaf people and be able to interpret messages well. This study aims to look at the kinesik, proxemic and paralinguistic messages of deaf people in the process of interacting in the guntung river community.This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Informants in this study were 4 deaf people selected using a purposive technique. Data collection techniques in this study used in-depth observation, interview and documentation. This study uses interactive data analysis techniques that include three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion.The results of this study are nonverbal communication patterns of people with hearing impairments using several nonverbal messages consisting of kinesik messages, proxemic messages and paralinguistic messages that can support the narrating process. Kinesik messages consist of facial expressions, deaf people use body parts to communicate and body language such as saying "yes" with sign language nodding their heads. the proxemic message is the use of space as a measure of familiarity between deaf people and the community in communicating that deaf people are not closed and open to society, paralinguistic messages consist of volume or intonation of sounds, such as when they do not like something or are angry the intonation of the voice will change high.  Keyword : Nonverbal Communication, Interaction Symboli, Deaf

Abstract

Nowadays, trend fashion has been reach the Muslim dress that in recent years was ogled by some Indonesian designer. So now appear some trends, one of them is hijab syar’i. If looking at the phenomenon in social media instagram that show the existence of the people who wear hijab syar’i, it causes the appearence of the term fashion icon hijab syar’i. The activities such as review look, endorser, life style trensetter, and dakwah wass also done by fashion icon hijab syar’i in Pekanbaru. The aim of this research is to know their motive in wearing hijab syar’i, front stage life, and back stage life of fashion icon hijab syar’i.This research used qualitative method and using phenomenology approach. There are three informant fashion icon hijab syar’i in this research from Pekanbaru that was chosen purposively. The data was collected through observation, deep interview, and documentation. To achieve the validity of the data in this study, researchers used the extension of participation and triangulation.The result of this research shows that the motive of fashion icon hijab syar’i in wearing hijab syar’i, is past motive such as fashionable motive, psikological motive, and theological motive. While the motive of hope is to deepen their religious knowledge and inspire others. Their activity in the front stage is OOTD or Outfit of the Day, endorse, life style, and dakwah. The manner or style that they want to build is polite and elegant woman and relaxed Muslimah. Meanwhile the attribute of their appearance is veil (Khimar), dress (Gamis), manset, socks, shoes, accessories, and bag. The activities in the back stage are household activity, gathering with other fashion icon hijab syar’i, business and pengajian. The attribute of their appearance are khimar that is wore simply or sliding khimar and syar’i dress that is wore depend on the situation of mukhrim. Besides that, this research categorize three kinds of fashion icon hijab syar’i in Pekanbaru, they are modist fashion icon hijab syar’i, simple fashion icon hijab syar’i, and totaliter fashion icon hijab syar’i.Keyword: self presentation, trend fashion, hijab syar’i, motive, social media, back stage, front stage

Abstract

The summoning ceremony is a tradition that is carried out after the marriage of the Javanese community in the Kunto Darussalam sub-district of Rokan Hulu district, most of the Kunto Darussalam community is dominated by the Javanese tribe community. Talking about the wedding ceremony, can not be separated from the existing cultural elements. Marriage is a ceremonial part of a culture, Javanese culture is full of symbols so it is said that Javanese culture is symbolic culture. The symbols used until now contain values, culture, ethics, and morals that are very important to explain to the next generation. The purpose of this research is to understand the symbolic meaning of the Central Java traditional wedding procession in the Javanese community in Kunto Darusallam District. The subjects used were men or women who carried out the wedding with the Central Java traditional wedding procession and numbered six people and were selected through a purposive sampling technique that had been determined from a predetermined understanding benchmark. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a symbolic interaction approach. This research was carried out in villages in Kunto Darusallam District, Rokan Hulu Regency.The results of this study indicate that, with the results in symbolic situations which are dividedinto two, namely physical objects in the form of clothing and equipment used in the summoning ceremony and social objects in the form of non-verbal behavior of the bride and groom as the perpetrators of the summoning ceremony or even the family and community who witnessed. Social interpretation of closed actions with the result of external and internal factors, by maintaining culture, togetherness, and customary encouragement, and in open actions seen in the expression of happiness in the faces of perpetrators, families, and Javanese communities in the Kunto Darusallam District, Rokan Hulu District. The procession is implemented in the household as in the procession ofbalangan  gantal,wijik sekar setaman, ngidak tigan, sinduran, kacar kucur, sungkeman, pangkon timbang, dhahar saklimah. The bride who runs each of these stages believes in the harmony of the household later.

Abstract

Green city is a program issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2007. This program is for local governments to implement environmentally sound development. Kuantan Singingi regency is one of the regencies that try to apply Green City concept, this program is coordinated by the Environment Agency (DLH). The purpose of this program is to realize Kuansing with the concept of Environment. This program involves many parties, namely the public, private parties, offices, and companies in Kuansing. Many implementations have been done to realize this green city, one of which is planting tree seeds on the protocol road. The purpose of this research is to know communicator strategy in implementing green city, audience strategy, message strategy and media usage in implementing green city program.This research uses qualitative research method. Informant of this research is 5 people consisting of 2 people from Environmental Office of Kuantan regency singingi and 3 people of society which is chosen by purposive. Data collection techniques used are observation, interview, and documentation. Data validity technique used in this research is triangulation and extension of participation.The result of the research shows that the communicator strategy of Environmental Office is to involve people who are experts and experienced in environment such as Environmental Science Lecturer and Environmental Expert. In addition, it also involves people who have influence on the community such as Village Heads, Adat Stakeholders and Religious Leaders. Strategy Determination of the audience by the Office of the Environment is to choose the nearest audience from downtown, the city of Kuantan Bay and surrounding areas. Consists of the general public, Office and School and Company. The Message Strategy by the Office of the Environment is by using a variety of messages, messages conveyed in seminars, training, banners, advertisements. The message in general is to realize the concept of green city kuansing. Selection of Media in implementing green city program by Environment Department is by using electronic media (Radio), online (Online news site), billboard or banner, social media (Instagram and facebook)Keywords : Communication Strategy, Green City, Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi

Abstract

Community of Graffiti become a separate phenomenon, which represent one of the subkultural youngster in the middle of society. Community of ME&ART in Medan become a unique phenomenon, because specification and uniqueness of activity and also life style which this community have to make this community exist and recognized in Medan. Some ways do youngster to communicate the existence of self through art of graffiti. This research intend to know motive of member community ME&ART in expressing art of graffiti, symbol meaning of graffiti and for describe about communication behavior of community member ME&ART in Medan.This research used qualitative methode by phenomenological approach. The subject of research is 5 who represent Community member of ME&ART selected use technique of purposive. Data obtained through participant observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. This research use technique analyse data of interaktif by using data collecting technique, data discount, presentation of data and withdrawal of conclusion.The result of research showed that here are two motives of community members to express their graffiti art motifs of the past and the future motives. Meaning built by members of the community ME&ART Graffiti as a medium to deliver creative, media delivery of messages and as a medium of expression. Abstract

The low level of culture of students writing caused by several factors such as the low reading interest, the assumption that writing is a difficult activitiy, and incorrect use of time, on a large scale will affect to the quality of human resources. Kongkow Nulis is a comunity that stands due to the low culture of writing among students, especially students in Pekanbaru. The persuasive effort of Kongkow Nulis in persuading strudents to improve their culture of writing is through their writing campaigns. This study aims to determine the credibility of communicators, messages, and methods of persuasion used by Kongkow Nulis Community to improve the culture of writing among students in Pekanbaru.This research uses qualitative descriptive research method adn using persuasive communication model of Apllebaum & Anatol. The reasearch informant consisted of Founder, co-Founder, 4 Members, and 2 Students from general circles had parcitipated in Kongkow Nulis activities selected bye using purposive techique. Data collections techniques were conducted throug interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. To achieve the validity of the data in this study, the researcher used triangulation and reference adequacy.This results showed, first Kongkow Nulis community builds credibility as a communicator through two components, that is expertness and trust worthiness. Second, persuasive message consist of verbal and nonverbal messages. Verbal message conveyed are information about the authorship, such as steps to get started and get used to writing activities, tips and writing tricks, whose pattern is adopted from the programs of Kongkow Nulis through the use of languange with the components of clarity, assignments, and accurancy. As well as nonverbal messages through the use of colors and interesting designs, physical artifacts through work in the form of book, as well as vibrant, assertive and relaxed communicator intonation. Third, efforts in improving the writing culture are done through persuasion methods with approaches adapted to the cognitive, lifestyle, and emotional needs of students in Pekanbaru.Key Word : Persuasive Communication, Writing, Kongkow Nulis

Abstract

Non-verbal communication is a communication process in which the message was delivered did not use words. Examples of non-verbal communication is to use gestures, body language, facial expressions and eye contact, the use of objects such as clothes, haircuts, symbols, as well as how to talk like intonation, emphasis, sound quality, style emotion and style of speaking. Dimensions of non-verbal communication that is primarily behavioral kinesic, paralinguistic, proxemics, and artifacts. The purpose of this study was to determine how the meaning of a message from kinesic behavior, paralinguistic messages, proxemic, and the meaning of the artifacts used by gigolo as a non-verbal communication to get customers / clients.This research is expected to contribute to the academic enrichment of activities that apply non-verbal communication. This research was conducted at the Social Department of Riau Province where located in the Sudirman. This study took place in December 2015 to June 2016. This study used descriptive qualitative research methods that explain and interpret the data collected and used. The data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation. The data validity checking carried out by the extension of participation and triangulation.The results of this study indicate that gigolo apply non-verbal communication profesionally, namely in terms of the behavior of kinesic, paralinguistic, proxemic message, and artifacts. In terms of behavior kinesic gigolo apply illustrator and display effect in attracting clients. All the actors created paralinguistic actions are an attempt to make prospective clients feel comfortable around him. They practice Proxemic behavior not just as a courtesy, but more than that they use as a tool to get the attention and interest of his client. Abstract

Autism is a developmental disorder that is indicated by symptoms such as lack of communication skills, social interaction, cognitive function, behavior and sensory abilities that require special handling by autism in special schools. This study aims to determine the instructional communication methods used in Pekanbaru Independent School Children Foundation, knowing the media used in the classroom, and barriers to what happens in the learning process.This study uses qualitative research methods to the presentation of the descriptive analysis. The subjects were teachers, parents, and students with autism in Pekanbaru while the Independent Children's Foundation is a research object to the teacher instructional communication of children with autism in the Independent Children's Foundation Pekanbaru. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. In reaching the validity of the data in this study, researchers used an extension of participation and triangulation.The results obtained indicate that the instructional methods used by teachers of children with autism in school autism Independent Children's Foundation is programmed using an instructional method, simulation method, and the method of demonstration. Instructional media were introduced to children with autism in the form of academic media and media sensory integration. Instructional communication barriers between children with autism and teachers include technical barriers and psychological barriers.Keywords : Children, Autistic, Instructional Communication , Foundation

Abstract

Being foreign student at university require person to adapted with new culture and interact with native student who have different culture background. The cross culture communication happened between foreign student from Malaysia, Thailand, also Vietnam with native student in UIN SUSKA Riau campuses that include adaptive and accommodative communication behavior. On accommodate other culture process foreign student did accommodation strategies involved such as doing convergence, divergence, and overaccomodation. This study aims to determine the intercultural communication behavior of foreign students with native students and communication barriers faced by foreign students while in UIN SUSKA Riau.This study used qualitative methods with symbolic interactionism approach. The research located at Sultan Syarif Kasim Islamic State University in Pekanbaru, Riau Province. This study took nine informants and determined by using purposive technique. Types and sources of data obtained through the primary data and secondary data. Data collection is done with depth interviewed, observation in research location, and completed with documentation along the research. The data processing by using Huberman and Miles interactive data analysis technique with an examination of thedata validity through the extension of participation and triangulation.This study result show that in intercultural interactions the foreign students showed accommodative behavior like convergence in verbal and nonverbal form when adapting also divergences in communication accommodation which made by foreign students with native students. Foreign students also experienced excessive accommodation from native students when adapting. Intercultural Communication between foreign students and natives students also experienced barriers such as cultural barriers, linguistic, differences in perception and nonverbal habits differencial.Keywords: cross culture communication, accomodation strategies, UIN SUSKA Riau

Abstract

The Menumbai Sialang Ritual is one of the traditions carried out by the indigenous Pelalawan community until now. This ritual is carried out in the forests and plantations of rural communities. The tradition of menumbai sialang aims to take or harvest forest bee honey nesting in the Sialang tree. Besides this tradition also aims to establish relationships between communities. Because not only are landowners allowed to take part in the Sialang Menumbai ritual procession, but villagers are also allowed to follow this Tradition. Tassel sialang comes from the word umbai, which means down or lower by using a tool. maumbaian (lowering) in the form of ropes and baskets. This word describes the motion of lowering the honeycomb by using timbo (bucket) which is lowered with a rope.  This study uses qualitative meode with a descriptive approach. The object of this research is the ethnography of the communication of the Menumbai Sialang tradition in Pelalawan Village, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province, with the research subjects meeting the research needs of 5 people. Data collection techniques in this study used in-depth observation, interviews and documentation.  The results of this study are ethnographic communication of Menumbai Sialang which are divided into three forms: communicative situations, communicative events and communicative actions. The communication situation is in the form of participant preparation and setting of the Sialang Menumbai ritual. Communicative events include topics, norms and rules of interaction and the contents of messages and actions in the form of singing or Tombai hinga mantra in the process. In communicative actions that concern the knowledge of a Jagan about Sialang Tassel culture, which is useful for interpreting the linguistic forms of Sialang Tassel ritual.  Keywords: Ethnography, Communication, Menumbai Sialang, Jagan
