Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between reading anxiety and reading comprehension of ESP students in Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The participants in this study were 50 first-year Governmental Science students who took intensive reading I. This study used correlational design to analyze the relationship between two variables (Reading anxiety and Reading comprehension). In collecting the data, the English Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Inventory (EFLRAI) questionnaire was used to investigate the level and potential causes of reading anxiety. Moreover, in assembling students' reading comprehension data, the researcher constructed a reading comprehension test specifically for governmental science students. Based on the study results, the non-English department students belong to moderate a level of reading anxiety. Specifically, reading anxiety is divided into three main aspects; top-down reading anxiety, bottom-up reading anxiety, and classroom reading anxiety. It was found out that the most potent sources of reading anxiety were in bottom-up reading anxiety, namely unclear-meaning vocabulary in English written text. Regarding students reading comprehension level, the ESP students have a low reading comprehension score. Besides, the research findings illustrated that there is a negative moderate-strong relationship between reading anxiety and Comprehension of ESP students. In means, the higher anxiety the students have, the lower their comprehension score they obtained. Thus, by knowing this, the teacher should select a carefully teaching method in their ESP classroom to decrease their reading anxiety and encourage them to improve their reading comprehension and deal with their anxiety.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was the significant relationship between digital media literacy and students' perception of hoax. This research uses descriptive correlation methods with surveys as data collection. Respondents in this study were students of diploma, undergraduate, and graduate from 18 study programs at the Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang. This study uses surveys conducted online using the Google Form website. The data were then analyzed by using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation in SPSS software. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of digital media literacy and the perception of hoaxes, and it was in the moderate correlation. Based on the review of related literature, moderate correlation was occur due to several factors such as biased thinking, easily provoked age group, and difficulties in finding accurate media agencies.

Abstract

This study aims to solve problems related to the policy of Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program. This research produces a syllabus of in-office TPD for the German language to solve problems faced in the field; it is necessary to provide provision and preparation for lecturers so that the preparation and implementation of learning have the same standards and goals and the percentage of pedagogic material is more than the professional content. Meanwhile the composition of the competency test is otherwise. In this study, a new policy of TPD is formulated based on 21st century competencies and 21st century learning models that have been successfully applied in Australia, namely a life skills-based learning approach, or known as life- based learning. This framework has become the flagship program for learning innovation at the State University of Malang. The research employed a research and development method that begins with problem identification or problem formulation. The syllabus design is created and developed based on performance and needs analysis, and oriented to the principles of teacher training in the 21st century. These principles are reflected in the syllabus which contains pegadodic competences, professional competence, the ability to use digital media through blended learning and digital-based learning. Based on the results of the validation by German learning experts and suggestions from users, it can be concluded that the PPG German syllabus design is feasible to use. Nevertheless, it is necessary to refine the time allocation according to the needs and clarity of evaluation and assessment.

Abstract

This article is a research result which aims to uncover the critical thinking skills of students of German Literature Department, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) in writing thesis. The method used is qualitative content analysis with a coding sheet as an instrument. The data is taken from some chapters in German thesis, to be particular the background, the discussion, and the conclusion sections. The collected data is reduced, grouped, then the emerging patterns are analyzed and conclusions are drawn. Students' critical thinking skills in writing thesis were analyzed from four cognitive abilities (analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and argumentation) and nine cognitive standards (clarity, clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, significance, and fairness). The results showed that students' critical thinking skills were good in the aspects of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. However, from the argumentation aspect, students’ critical ability is still considered weak, because they produced errors in ethos, logos and pathos arguments, still made incomplete structures, and did not meet the criteria for critical thinking/cognitive standards of breadth and depth.

Abstract

Artikel ini merupakan hasil penelitian tentang pemanfaatan akun YouTube berkonten pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin dalam literasi digital siswa kelas X. Pada era pandemi ini, pembelajaran daring menjadi pilihan utama, demikian juga dalam pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin di SMA dan membuat literasi digital tetap sangat diandalkan.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan akun YouTube berkonten pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin dalam literasi digital siswa kelas X SMA. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui kuisioner dengan responden sebanyak 25 siswa yang dilakukan secara daring dan dianalisis menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptifHasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa akun YouTube berkonten pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin secara keseluruhan dapat membantu proses literasi digital siswa kelas X dalam pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin, hal tersebut terbukti dengan menguasai enam elemen literasi digital meliputi: a) information literacy, b) digital scholarship, c) ICT literacy, d) career and identity management, e) communication and collaboration dan f) media literacy, hal tersebut terlihat dari penilaian siswa yang meningkat. Adapun elemen literasi digital yang belum sepenuhnya atau masih rendah dikuasai siswa yakni learning skills.

Abstract

Evaluation Study on the Implementation of D-II Equivalent Program of Elementary School Teacher Education. The study aimed to evaluate the implementation of D-II Equivalent Program of Elementary School Teacher Education, concerning the evaluation of the curriculum, students, teaching-learning process, academic staff, facilities, and the shortcomings. The study was carried out in Blitar and Jombang, involving 337 subjects comprising students, tutors, instructors of practical work, and supervisors. The data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, documentation study, and observation and then analyzed using statistics of percentages. The results indicate that the implementation of the curriculum is mostly relevant to the guidelines and that there are shortcomings in implementing the program, especially concerning the availability of the modules and the late acceptance of them.

Abstract

Abstract: The qualitative study aims to look into the patterns and characteristics of interaction in an online speaking course.  This research was conducted at Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta's Oral English for Daily Communication Class of the Applied English Study Program. The researcher observed the online learning sessions to learn about the online teaching and learning process synchronously on Google Meet. The findings revealed that the teacher and students produced various patterns of interaction involving teacher-class, teacher-student, student-teacher, student-student, and teacher-group interaction, as well as mixed interaction features such as confirmation check, code switching, self-repetition, clarification request, elicitation, completion, other-repetition, and correction.Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian kualitatif ini adalah untuk melihat pola dan karakteristik interaksi yang terjadi dalam kelas berbicara yang dilaksanakan secara daring. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kelas Komunikasi Harian Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta Program Studi Bahasa Inggris Terapan. Peneliti mengamati sesi pembelajaran daring untuk mempelajari proses belajar mengajar yang berlangsung sinkron di Google Meet. Hasil analisa data menunjukkan bahwa guru dan siswa menghasilkan berbagai pola interaksi yang melibatkan interaksi guru-kelas, guru-siswa, siswa-guru, siswa-siswa, dan interaksi guru-sekelompok siswa, serta berbagai macam fitur interaksi seperti confirmation check, code switching, self-repetition, clarification request, elicitation, completion, other-repetition dan correction.

Abstract

Abstract: Plagiarism is one of academic dishonesty, which has become a central issue in the academic sector. The aims of this study were to investigate students understanding through plagiarism and also to examine the reason why they committed plagiarism. This study used a quantitative approach. To obtain the data, questionnaire and interview were used. The finding showed that their understanding of plagiarism bounded in citing without giving sources.  Further, the result showed that lack of knowledge, lack of time and unintentionally committed plagiarism were the top three reasons why the graduate students committed plagiarism.Abstrak: Plagiasi adalah salah satu ketidakjujuran akademik yang menjadi isu utama dalam bidang akademik.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki pemahaman siswa tentang plagiasi dan untuk mengetahui alasan mengapa mereka melakukan  tindakan plagiasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Kuesioner dan wawancara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman mereka tentang plagiasi hanya terbatas tentang mengutip tanpa memberikan rujukan. Selanjutnya, hasilnya penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kurangnya pengetahuan, waktu dan kemudahan untuk menemukan materi di internet merupakan tiga alasan utama mengapa mahasiswa pascasarjana melakukan tindakan plagiasi.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to develop digital interactive teaching materials entitled "Ayo Sinau Basa Jawa" (Let's Learn Javanese) for students in grade I in elementary school. The research and development method used is ADDIE. The measures taken in this development research are analysis, design, development, implementation, dan Evaluation. The digital teaching method named Ayo Sinau Basa Jawa is a multimedia based interactive teaching material which provides menu called sinau (learn) and gladhen (practice) inside. The "sinau" material is presented by integrating pictures, sounds, and videos while "gladhen" is given in a form of quizzes. Products developed were validated by three experts according to the aspects assessed, namely aspects of content, language and multimedia. The content validation results obtained a score of 96%, the results of language validation obtained a score of 93%, and the results of multimedia validation scored 93%. The result of this study is that the product is valid, so it is capable of being utilized and is attractive and effective to be used by elementary school students.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan bahan ajar interaktif berupa bahan digital Ayo Sinau Basa Jawa bagi siswa kelas I Sekolah Dasar. Metode penelitian dan pengembangan yang digunakan adalah model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Bahan digital Ayo Sinau Basa Jawa merupakan bahan ajar interaktif berbasis mulimedia yang menyediakan menu sinau (belajar) dan gladhen (latihan) didalamnya. Materi sinau disajikan dengan mengintegrasikan media gambar, audio dan video, sedangkan gladhen disajikan dalam bentuk kuis. Produk yang dikembangkan divalidasi oleh tiga ahli sesuai aspek yang dinilai, yakni aspek isi, bahasa, dan multimedia. Hasil validasi isi memperoleh skor 96%, hasil validasi bahasa memperoleh skor 93%, dan hasil validasi multimedia memperoleh skor 93%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa produk telah valid sehingga layak dan efektif digunakan oleh siswa Sekolah Dasar.
