Abstract

Background: Dental caries is one of the dental and oral diseases, and it is caused by S. mutans. Almost all humans have dental caries, and it is a burden disease in Indonesia. The prevalence of dental caries is 79.1% worldwide, and the prevalence of child dental caries in Indonesia was 92.6% in 2018. Purpose: To promote child dental health awareness in children through an educational comic. Methods: Educational comics were distributed directly to students of Kalijudan Elementary School. Tools and materials of the empowerment program: Stationery, Laptop/computer, Application to layout the comic. There are 13 teachers and 30 students involved in this program. The students were given pre-test before learned about dental health from educational comics. After receiving health education materials from the comics books, they were given post-test to measure the increasement of health knowledge. Pre and post test data were analyzed with Paired-T test. Results: The pre-test and post-test results of the empowerment program at Kalijudan 1 elementary school were 12.3 and 13.6, respectively. There was a 1.3 point increase. The significance value was 0.000 (p-Value < 0.05). This means that there was a significant difference in children’s knowledge levels before and after they read the comic. Conclusion: The result showed that children have learned that dental and oral health affects physical activities.

Abstract

Background: Late adulthood is an aging process characterized by a decrease in some bodily functions. Physical changes associated with late adulthood are musculoskeletal disorders, changes in the cardiovascular system, changes in the immune system, and changes in physical activity. Physical exercise is one of the ways to improve elderly’ physical activities. An epidemiological study on elderly under Jagir Public Health Center coverage area reported that periodontitis and dental caries could lower physical performance in the elderly, lowering physical activity. Purpose: In consideration of theproblem in question, a promotive and preventive program is needed. The Dental Health Physical Exercise (SKG) program was expected to improve the overall physical condition of the elderly. Methods: The “Senam Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut” took place on 19 July 2019 at Integrated Health Service Post for Elderly. Results: There were 26 elderly participated in physical exercise. 7.7% of them were not able to follow the exercise, and the remaining 92.3% were able to follow the exercise. Conclusion: 92.3% of 26 elderly were able to follow the exercise properly and correctly. However, the remaining 7.7% of them were not able to catch up with the physical exercise. In addition, most participants were able to perform 4 out of 5 movements criteria.

Abstract

Background: Dental caries is a disease that affects all ages, including early childhood. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the incidence of dental caries in Indonesian children aged 5 and 6 years in 2017-2018 reached 70% or more. Parental education in dental health from an early age plays a vital role. One of the easy-to-understand educational media is a picture book. Aim: This engagement activity was conducted to increase parental participation in the development of a picture book to meet the needs of dental health education for early childhood at Omah Cilik Fundaycare Surabaya Method: This activity was an online educational activity involving parents. It was a sharing session between participants and informants about early childhood dental and oral health problems. The increased participation of participants was assessed using a Google form when the activity was going on. Results: This activity revealed that 100% of participants were enthusiastic about getting the latest information about children's oral health, and more than 70% had the correct answers. Conclusion: Participants are quite enthusiastic and active during online discussions.

Abstract

Backgrounds: Dental and oral health problems in adolescents are increasing in Indonesia, as evidenced by the highest dental health problems of 73.5%. Purpose: to develop an illustrated module on dental health education for adolescents at the Isy Karimah Imtaq Islamic Boarding School, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. Method: The illustrated module socialization activity was held in September 2022 at Imtaq Shighor Isy Karimah, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java with 30 students as participants. Evaluation is done by giving a pre-test and post-test that has been filled out by the participant. Result: Based on the results of the evaluation, it was found that the average pre-test score was 69.2 while the post-test was 78.8, and the increase in participant knowledge was 6.9. Conclusion: students who participated in the socialization of the illustrated module experienced an increase in dental health knowledge for adolescents at the Islamic Boarding School.

Abstract

Background: Dental problems are health problems that have to be taken into account, especially in Indonesia, where it is known that the correct brushing time for Indonesian people is only 2.8%. Meanwhile, in the working area of the Dringu Health Center in Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Indonesia the prevalence of dental caries in Taman Sari Village reached 46%. Purpose: This study aims to determine the knowledge of Pos Layanan Terpadu/Posyandu (Integrated Service Post)cadres from the socialization of children’s dental health illustration books activities with local languages in the working area of the Dringu Health Center, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Indonesia. Methods: This activity is a socialization for children’s dental health illustration books using the Madurese language, involving cadres and staff of the Dringu Health Center, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The increased knowledge of the participants is assessed through the results of the pre-test and post-test that have been done. Results: The results showed that there was an increase in participants knowledge by 21%. Conclusion: The socialization of dental health illustration books in local languages in the working area of the Dringu Health Center, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Indonesia can increase participants knowledge about dental health.
