Abstract

ABSTRACT Hygiene of Food equipment have a important role in growth and spread of the pathogenic organism. Food equipment must be maintained to avoid the contamination of germs such as Escherichia coli. The aim of this study was to analyze the hygiene sanitation condition of food processing and examination of Escherichia coli bacteria in food equipment in the cafeteria University of Sumatera Utara 2015.This study is a quantitative research . The study was conducted in 16 cafeteria at the University of Sumatera Utara. This study uses observation sheets to see the hygiene and sanitation of food and laboratory testing for the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria that will be meet with regulation in Kepmenkes No. 1098 / Menkes / SK / VII / 2003 The result of this research found conditions of hygiene and sanitation of food processing based on physical conditions of the location and the building, as well as the six principles of hygiene sanitation food was good but in terms of canteen facilities, the condition of the kitchen, dining room, and the building of foodstuffs as well as in the provision of food equipment to eat is still relatively poorly , There were 8 canteen that contained the bacteria Escherichia coli. It is recommended that food seller in University of Sumatera Utara should pay more attention canteen facilities, the condition of the kitchen, dining room, and building materials as well as in the provision of food equipment eat. Abstract

ABSTRACTDiscomfort can occur in the environment of school, one of them is thenoise. Noise that occurs when subjects ongoing impact on the learning process,which is one of the disruption of the concentration of students. The research wasconducted at the State Primary School 067240 Medan Tembung District whichaims to find out the difference in the level of concentration towards the studentsbefore and after the noise due to railway crossings.This method of this research is pre-experimental design by using onegroup and pre-test post-test. The sample of this research is also using purposivesampling technique which consists of 58 students. The level of noise wasmeasured by using a Sound Level Meter and level of concentration of studentswas measured using a Stroop Test. Data analysis is using non-parametricstatistical tests (Wilcoxon tes t) and Parametric Test (paired t-test) at the 95%significance level.The results showed that in general the average noise level in theclassroom before and while the train passed the railway crossing exceeds thequality standards that have been established in the amount of 55 dB. Other resultsalso showed that the results of interference score of students before the railroadcrossing with a mean of 13,59 and after the railway crossing at 17,40. Thisindicates that the concentration of students has decreased when compared withpretest posttest. Based on the test results of wilcoxon test is known, there are thedifferences in the level of concentration towards the students before and after thenoise due to railway crossing (p. = 0,001).Based on the results of this research are expected to the school in order toreduce the noise while is coming from the rail traffic. Such as the installation ofblind or curtain on the window class, the use of firm window on the outside walltowards the class which is passing of the train tracks, and the use of noisedampening vegetation.Keywords: The level of the noise, Concentration of the students, Stroop Test,Sound Level Meter

Abstract

ABSTRACT Formalin is substance which is banned to be added in food according to the regulation of Indonesia Health Minister Number 1168/Health Minister/Regulation/X/1999 But many manufacturers still use formalin to make durable import fruits to maintain the freshness of fruit because importing fruits from the origin country to Indonesia needs long time. The objective of this research is to know how many formalin in import fruits which is sold in some supermarket in Medan This research is survey research in descriptive. The methode of the research is laboratory check of apple imports, grape imports, and orange imports by iodimetri titration. Based on laboratory result from import fruits, can be known that all number of sample from import fruits contain formalin. The highest Formalin content in Calmeria Grapes from America is 4,692 mg/ml, Fuji Apple from Japan is 4,552 mg/ml, and Red Delicious Apple from America is 4,412 mg/ml, and the lowest formalin is in Imperial Seed Orange from Australia is 1,610 mg/ml. It is suggested to government to tighten the controls of importing fruits in to country to prevent the coming fruits which have dangerous content like formalin. Suggested to BPOM to monitor, control, and educate about formalin using as added substance in food. It is suggested also to people to be selective in choosing import fruits to consume. Suggested for further research done by comparing the levels of formaldehyde in import fruits peeled with import fruits not peeled . And comparing the levels of formaldehyde in import fruits before washing with after washing . Key Word : Formalin, Import Fruits

Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the cosmetics that are often used by women is lipstick. Lipstick can be unsafe if it is polluted by heavy metals such as metallic lead (Pb), which can cause adverse health effects. Lead in lipstick can enter the body through the surface of the skin, digestive and respiratory. Knowledge and attitudes of consumers will shape consumer action in choosing a lipstick product which will be used. The aim of this study was to determine the content of metallic lead (Pb), to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes of consumers towards local lipstick registered and not registered by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). This research was conducted in several markets in the city of Medan. Present study is a descriptive research in which the consumer population is composed of all consumers who buy lipstick on the location of the research. Samples of consumers from some markets made up of 40 consumers, 55 consumers and 30 consumers. Sample of consumers was taken by accidental sampling method. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively in tables and narrative. The study results showed that 13 samples of local lipstick registered and unregistered by BPOM RI and sold in some markets in the city of Medan after being tested turned out to contain lead in a range of 0,8146-5,5916 mg/kg. The content is still satisfying the requirements according to the regulations of BPOM RI, i.e. £ 20 mg/kg. The level of consumer knowledge about lipstick in multiple markets in the city of Medan consists of moderate knowledge (45,0%) and a good knowledge (55,0%). While the category of consumer attitudes toward lipstick in multiple markets in the city of Medan consists of moderate attitude (21,2%) and a good attitude (78,8%). The conclusion is all the sample of lipsticks products contained lead. BPOM RI is advisable to provide more information about lead-containing lipstick to the public, and consumers are advised to be careful and cautious in choosing a lipstick that will be used. Abstract

ABSTRACT Hygiene is very important and must be considered as it will affect the health and psychological state of a person. A clean and healthy environment will have an effect on the skin. Unsanitary environment can give rise to complaints about the health of the skin. In addition, personal hygiene also contributes greatly to skin health. The aim of this study was to determine the conditions of hygiene and sanitation as well as complaints about the health of the skin at the Orphanage Al-Jam'iyatul Washliyah in Pulo Brayan, Medan. The current research is using descriptive method. Total population in this study was 356 and taken a sample of 78. Samples were taken using stratified sampling method by quota sampling. The study results showed that the respondents who have a complaint about the health of skin totaling  28 person (35.9%), dominated by male respondents 15 respon (19.2%) and the education level of the MTS as much as 18 (23%). And sanitary conditions meet the criteria for a healthy home. Skin health complaints experienced by the santri are due to factors that are less good personal hygiene. The study results also showed that the cleanliness of the bed and bed linen are in bad condition reported by 28 subjects (35.9%). In addition, the lack of awareness for the drying bed was reported by 16 subjects (20.5%). As a conclusion from this study is that the complaints about the health of the skin are found in Orphanage Al-Jam'iyatul Washliyah in Pulo Brayan, Medan. Therefore, it is recommended that santri pay more attention to personal hygiene such as cleanliness of the skin, hands, feet, hooves, genitalia, towels, clothing, bedding, bed linen, and hair.   Keywords: Personal Hygiene, Dormitory Sanitation, Skin

Abstract

ABSTRACT Bacteria is one of the microorganisms that cause infection. Some species of bacteria are pathogens that cause disease in humans, such as infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria can live on imported used clothing. This research goal is to determine whether or not a decrease in the number of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in second-hand clothes on the use of a mixture of hot water with lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and the hot water in traditional markets Perumnas Simalingkar. This research is quasi experimental with the design used in this study was conducted with the approach of pre-test and post test which measurements were performed before and after treatment. The study was conducted in September to January 2016. The sample in this study is used clothing sold in traditional markets Perumnas Simalingkar. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the decrease in the number of Staphylococcus aureus in the control treatment, a mixture of hot water and lime 10%, and the hot water for 10 minutes was 220 CFU / ml, 0 CFU / ml, and 23.3 CFU / ml. Decreasing in the number of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus is most effective in the treatment of mixtures of hot water with lime with a percentage decrease of 100%. Community is suggested that perform the immersion of used clothing before wearing old clothes with a mixture of hot water and lime 10% for 10 minutes to reduce the number of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in used clothing, the results of this study are expected to be an alternative to reduce the amount of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in used clothing, and further research needs to be done using a solution of lime juice in decreasing the number of other pathogenic bacteria found in used clothing. Abstract

Sampah adalah suatu bahan yang dibuang dari sumber hasil aktivitas manusia maupun proses alam yang belum memiliki nilai ekonomis. Masalah sampah di Indonesia merupakan masalah yang rumit karena kurangnya pengertian masyarakat terhadap akibat-akibat yang dapat ditimbulkan oleh sampah. Target Pengabdian Masyarakat yang dilakukan pada Kecamatan Medan Johor adalah membentuk sistem pengelolaan sampah di daerah ini untuk rumah tangga dan pengelolaan sampah untuk daerah pemukiman dan perumahan. Metode pengabdian yang dilakukan meliputi presentasi dan praktik pembuatan kompos. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan berupa presentasi edukasi dengan menggunakan media Microsoft Power Point kepada Karang Taruna. Pelaksanaan pengabdian pada masyarakat telah dilakukan pada tanggal 12 Juli 2018 di Kantor Kelurahan Pangkalan Masyur, Kecamatan Medan Johor, Kota Medan dengan jumlah sasaran 20 orang yang terdiri atas anggota Karang Taruna Pangkalan Masyur dan Karang Taruna Suka Maju, serta staf kelurahan, ibu Pembina PKK Kecamatan Medan Johor dan Lurah Pangkalan Masyur. Penyampaian edukasi juga dilaksanakan dengan praktik langsung pembuatan keranjang takakura kepada karang taruna. Hasil yang dicapai dalam kegiatan ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan karang taruna terhadap inovasi yang baru dalam pengolahan sampah organik dan dapat mempraktikkannya secara individu maupun kelompok untuk mengatasi permasalahan sampah organik serta memproduksi kompos yang mempunyai nilai jual.

Abstract

Modification of ovitrap by using abate has been proven to increase the rate of the free number of larvae (ABJ) up to 80 % but difficulty of obtaining abate. Kelurahan Baru Ladang Bambu District of Medan Tuntungan is one of the endemic villages in Medan City. In this area, many plants are found Ricinnus communis whose leaves are often used to treat colds for babies and children while many seeds are wasted scattered. Based on that the researcher by using jatropha seed as material for ovitrap modification in improving ABJ. This research is a quasi-experiment research with pre-test and post-test. The population is home and community in Kelurahan Baru Ladang Bambu, the sample is 90 houses for three treatments, ie without treatment, ovitrap treatment with abate powder and ovitrap treatment with jatropha seed powder, with dose each 5mg / 100 l water. Interviews were also conducted with the community to know the level of participation in using ovitrap modification. Based on the result of the research, it is known that the modification of ovitrap with jatropha seed (p = 0,001) is more effective than using abate powder to increase ABJ. The level of public participation in using ovitrap modification is still low, this is seen from the actions of people who use modification ovitrap 54.44%. While the level of knowledge in the com-munity has increased well (78.88%). Modification of ovitrap by using jatropha seeds can increase the ABJ, it is expected that the community can use this method to reduce the density of mosqui-toes considering the easily accessible seeds in this area. Therefore, further research is needed to determine the appropriate dose in the provision of safe and non-odor-free seeds.
