Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the mother tongue influence of Acehnese learners in vocational English class. The students? mother tongue influence can be detected by the results of speaking errors on their performance. The primary data of the students? speaking performance was recorded, then transcribed. Furthermore, the student?s questionnaire was applied to support the primary data. The results of this study were analyzed and presented into two parts containing pronunciation and grammar errors. Meanwhile, the data obtained from the questionnaire was quantitatively shown that the learning process of the target language was affected by the first language.

Abstract

To enrich students writing aptitude, it is significant to identify the effective feedback process in the language classroom. While the teacher is presenting the appropriate feedback strategies, it is needed to find whether the students prefer what their teacher applied in order to solve their writing problems. The teacher carried out both written and oral (writing conference) in giving feedback, however, this study aims at comparing the teacher and students’ preferences on the teacher feedback practice qualitatively. The students’ writing assignment of 200 words was submitted before the conference schedule. Receiving the written feedback on their writing sheets, the students read and review their teacher feedback. Next, participating in this study, the students were required to contribute on the questionnaire about their preferences during the conference, while the teacher was interviewed. The results show that the students (58%) in the novice writing class preferred on the writing conference. There were 79% students in English writing program would rather work in personal with their teacher which means each of students work one-to-one. Meanwhile, the teacher preferred providing the written feedback, though she realized that the conference might work better on the novice level.

Abstract

Manajemen waktu merupakan keterampilan yang idealnya diimplementasikan oleh mahasiswa keperawatan di jenjang perguruan tinggi. Proses belajar selama pandemi covid-19 tentu mempengaruhi kualitas manajemen waktu mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi keterampilan manajemen waktu pada mahasiswa keperawatan di kotamadya Banda Aceh selama pandemic covid-19 di mana proses pembelajaran dilakukan dengan metoda dalam jaringan (daring). Jenis penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif eksploratif dengan desain cross sectional study. Teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan simple random sampling, merupakan alat ukur berbentuk kuesioner dengan metode pengumpulan data dengan google form. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa yang aktif belajar di semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2020 dan mahasiswa tersebut belajar di tingkat S-1 dan D4 di kotamadya Banda Aceh dan bersedia menjadi responden dengan mengisi kuesioner yang disediakan di google form dalam waktu yang ditentukan oleh peneliti sehingga diperoleh sampel sebesar 55 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan manajemen waktu mahasiswa keperawatan berada pada kategori cukup baik yaitu sejumlah 42 orang (76%). Manajemen waktu merupakan indikator keberhasilan akademik. Dari hasil penelitian disarankan mahasiswa mampu mengatur waktunya dengan baik sehingga akan berdampak pada pencapaian hasil belajar yang maksimal. Kata kunci: Manajemen Waktu, Mahasiswa Keperawatan, Pandemi Covid 19.ABSTRACTTime management is a skill that is ideally implemented by nursing students at the tertiary level. The learning process during the covid-19 pandemic certainly affects the quality of student time management. The aim of this study was to identify the time management skills of nursing students in the municipality of Banda Aceh during the covid-19 pandemic where the learning process was carried out using online method. The type of the research was descriptive exploratory with a cross sectional study design. The sampling technique in this study used simple random sampling, which is a measuring instrument in the form of a questionnaire with data collection methods using google form. The population in this study were all nursing students who were actively studying in the odd semester of the 2020 academic year and these students studied at the S-1 and D4 levels in the Banda Aceh municipality and were willing to become respondents by filling out the questionnaire provided on google form within the time determined by the researchers so that obtained a sample of 55 people. The results showed that the time management of nursing students was in the quite good category i.e. 42 people (76%). Time management is an indicator of academic success. From the research results, it is recommended that students be able to manage their time well so that it will have an impact on the achievement of maximum learning outcomes.Keywords: Time management, nursing students, covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Integrated teaching learning instruction with technology has been fascinating for EFL students currently. In writing class, it takes several times for students to revise their draft after receiving feedback. Rather than using a plain paper with bullet, students nowadays prefer screen with the keyboard. In this study, it aimed at exploring the students’ preferences on applying computer in writing class. The data from 33 university students taking Writing class were collected and analyzed descriptively. To detract bias, the teacher was also interviewed. The results revealed that 91% of the students prefer to write on email. Moreover, 88% agreed that the media is helpful to ease the writing and revise English paragraph. However, teacher assumed that several students do not know how to use computer correctly.

Abstract

Dalam berinteraksi dan berkomunikasi, bahasa memiliki peranan penting. Namun,manusia sering mengalami miskomunikasi dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Hal ini disebabkan bahasa memiliki cakupan makna yang luas. Selain itu, setiap orang memiliki gaya berbahasa yang berbeda-beda. Banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi perbedaan tersebut, antara lain, lingkungan, tingkat pendidikan, gender, dan lain-lain. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara bahasa yang biasa digunakan sehari-hari oleh laki-laki dan perempuan yang berbahasa Indonesia dan berbahasa Aceh dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Adapun responden yang terlibat meliputi mahasiswa-mahasiswi program pasca sarjana di salah satu perguruan tinggi di Aceh. Percakapan antar perempuan dan laki-laki direkam dan kemudian dianalisa. Dari hasil pengamatan, perempuan terlihat lebih verbal dibandingkan laki-laki. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa bahasa laki-laki dan perempuan berbeda pada beberapa aspek yaitu dalam pemilihan topik, dalam pemilihan ucapan seperti intonasi, perbendaharaan kata, dan sintaks, dalam menggunakan sumpah serapah dan bahasa vulgar, dalam gaya percakapan dan dalam mendominasi percakapan.

Abstract

Writing is not a spontaneous ability in language learning because it requires both editing and revising, and thus making this skill perceived as an easy task. Students could use a dictionary to help them use a foreign language on any occasion. Nonetheless, these activities may result in several errors in students' writing assignments. Relating to this situation, this study aims at identifying the students’ problems and their grammatical errors during the process of academic writing. In this study, mix-methods were applied in which vocational college students’ writings were documented and interview with the students was conducted. The data on students’ grammatical errors were collected, transcribed, analyzed, and interpreted. The findings show that the students’ errors laid on tense (38.0%), preposition (11.7%), article (11.4%), conjunction (11.4%), omission (8.9%), subject-verb agreement (6.3%) and adverb (2.5%). Meanwhile, based on the interview, to facilitate language competence, a translation tool such as Google translate was routinely used by most of the students (81.8%) during the writing completion. Although applying a translation tool in writing, the majority of the students (73%) thought it is a hard skill, and 18% of them believed that the writing process is the most difficult in language activities.

Abstract

Learning English from an early age is the main foundation in developing language skills. Learning English can be presented with games that attract children’s attention, such as crossword puzzles. Crossword puzzle is a game that supports learning by filling in the answers in the box column with the letters according to the questions to be able to sharpen the students’ brains. The purpose of this community service was to improve the English vocabulary of Teupin Jueu's children with crossword puzzles. The target of the service activities were children who live in Gampong Teupin Jeue which is one of the remote villages in the Batee District, Pidie Regency. The English learning training was held on January 4, 2021. The results of this activity indicated that it can motivate children to learn English, change the mindset of parents that learning English is important, increase English vocabulary and enhance their ability to pronounce vocabulary correctly.

Abstract

For college students, mastering foreign language such as English brings profitable for their career. Producing the language decently such as the ability of writing in English is one of the output in the language acquisition. In this study, non-English students in the end of their study were chosen as they’ve completed English courses. Moreover, the students were finishing their final project, definitely including the English abstract. Based on their learning experience, the writing process of English abstract showed indirectly their language ability. Regarding with, this study aims at finding whether the students have any learning progress during their study in the college. Additionally, not only the learners’ motivation but also their learning habit, their confidence, and the learning facility during learning English were questioned in this study. The students completing their final project at the certain time were interviewed towards their learning language habits particularly in writing. The data collected were transcribed, analyzed and interpreted qualitatively. The results show that 77.3% of the students felt they have more progress during the target language instruction. Furthermore, 50% of the students believe in stating English on text though they confessed they (68.2%) have lack of English practicing at home. The students’ positive attitudes presented due to their motivation in learning the language. The findings also indicated that all students (100%) believed that their teacher or lecturer motivates them to practicing writing English.

Abstract

ABSTRAKKegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan berupa workshop tentang Marketing Branding Strategy pada unit usaha binaan Pondok Yatim binaan Human Initiative. Peserta yang merupakan santri pada pondok Baitul Quran (laki-laki) dan pondok Istanbul Baba Murat Korkmaz (perempuan) tersebut diberikan pengetahuan serta pendalaman skil tentang pentingnya brand . Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama dua hari pada tanggal 25 dan 26 Januari 2021 Melalui metode deskriptif ini, workshop dilaksanakan dalam empat tahap yang meliputi pemaparan permasalahan mitra, persiapan, pemaparan materi workshop serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Selama kegiatan berlangsung, peserta yang sudah memiliki bisnis seperti ; menjahit dan rajut tampak antusias sehingga membuktikan bahwa pengetahuan tentang marketing branding strategy dapat dipraktekkan secara efektif. Hasil dari kegiatan workshop ini adalah peserta paham strategi marketing yang baik dan sesuai dengan jenis usahanya. Peserta telah menentukan strategi marketing yang akan diterapkan dan metode pemasaran yang selama ini diterapkan dapat dicampur dengan menghadirkan teknologi yang berupa promosi melalui media sosial seperti instagram, marketplace dsb.Kata Kunci: marketing branding strategy; pondok yatim

Abstract

During the covid-19 pandemic spread Indonesia, educational system has been fluctuated. The face-to-face learning method soon is changed into the distance learning with the help of digital tools such as computer and internet. At the beginning, the compatible method was difficult to decide by the educational practitioners, particularly in Banda Aceh. However, the policy maker at higher education level especially at Syiah Kuala University has decided to use the mix method by implementing both classroom and online learning activity. In this study, the data were obtained through google form via social media such as WhatsApp. The participants who are in the 2nd and 4th semester were chosen in order to give their towards the new learning system. The results of this qualitative study indicated that most students (89.6%) agreed to the education policy. They (80%) also stated that they feel pleasure to learn with the mix methods in this semester. On the other hand, if the students could be able to choose without considering the side effects owing to the current pandemic situation, 51.8% of them preferred the face-to-face activity to online class.
