Abstract

Background: Dyspnea and physiological changes are clinical manifestations of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) due to respiratory failure. Deep breathing exercise combined with active range of motion increases respiratory muscles and blood circulation. As a result, it reduces breathing effort and decreases blood pressure.Purpose: This research aimed to analyze the influence of deep breathing exercise and active range of motion (ROM) on physiological response of CHF patients. Methods: This study used a quasi-experiment with pretest-posttest control group design recruiting 32 respondents by stratified random sampling technique. The intervention was done three times a day for three days. Deep breathing exercise for thirty times and continued with active range of motion for five times each movement was given. Digital sphygmomanometer and digital watch were used as measuring instruments. Data were analyzed using independent and paired t-tests.Result: The results showed that there were significant differences in the systole (p=0.000), diastole (p=0.000) and respiratory rates (p=0.003) after the intervention compared to the control group. There was also a significant difference in systolic blood pressure between the intervention and the control group (p=0.003). However, no significant difference in diastole and respiratory rates was found. Conclusion: Deep breathing exercise combined with active range of motion decreases the systole in CHF patients. Further research is expected to lengthen the time of intervention to allow better significance.

Abstract

AbstractBackground: Obesity is a risk factor metabolic syndrome and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. One of the mechanisms that trigger the disease is the increased oxidative stress in obesity people. Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant that can increase the synthesis of endogenous antioxidants in the body, suppress the inflammatory response, inhibit the formation of steatosis and reducing body weight. Objective: To analyze the effect of melatonin supplementation in reducing body weight in male Wistar rats were fed by waste cooking oil. Methods: True experimental study using post-test only control group design. This study was done on 18 male wistar rats were divided into 3 groups: the positive control group (P0) was administrated waste cooking oil, the treated group 1 (P1) was administrated waste cooking oil and 5mg/kgBW melatonin, and the treated group 2 (P2) was administrated waste cooking oil and 10mg/kgBW melatonin for 28 days. Data analysis using One Way ANOVA test and followed by Tukey test to determine the most effective dose of melatonin. Results: There was significant difference in body weight between P2 group and P0 group (p=0,019) with the mean body weight difference was 19,167g lower than P0 group. Conclusion: Melatonin dose of 10mg/kgBW losesbody weight male Wistar rats were fed by waste cooking oil for 28 days. Keywords: Melatonin, on-alcoholic fatty liver, waste cooking oil AbstrakLatar belakang: Obesitas merupakan faktor risiko timbulnya sindrom metabolik dan penyakit perlemakan hati non alkohol.

Abstract

Background: Psycho-emotional aspects play an important role in both health services and health workers in the emergency department. Smiles are forms of interactions between nurses and patients that are given in providing health services to patients in terms of nonverbal communication. However, high workloads in the emergency unit may hinder nurses from smiling. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the experiences and meanings of nurses’ smiles to patients in the emergency department. Methods: This study employed a qualitative design with a descriptive phenomenological approach. Thirteen participants were recruited through purposive sampling using the inclusion criteria, such as emergency nurses with more than three years of work experience and nurses who had attended training on effective communication. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with semi-structured questions and analyzed using the Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach. Results: The study generated four themes, namely, the importance of smiles in emergency services, the miracle of smiles, the hindrances for emergency nurses to smile, and that smiles and humor in an emergency situation are important for children. Conclusion: The study concluded that nurses’ smiles had a significant benefit on emergency department services as a form of interpersonal relationship, although the practice still needs to be improved. Nurses are expected to be able to apply smiles in communicating with patients and their families in the emergency departments.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The UVB exposure may cause sunburn (second degree burn). Aloe vera (AV) is widely used in wound healing, including sunburn.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of topical Aloe vera extract gel on the number of macrophages and epithelialization in UVB induced sunburn.METHODS: This posttest only-control group design used twenty female BALB/c mice with UVB-induced sunburn randomly divided into 4 groups. Control groups (Cntrl-G) were given a base gel. Group AV-25, AV-50, and AV-75 were topically treated with Aloe vera gel at the concentration of 25%, 50% and 75% respectively for 5 days. On day 5, after terminated, the samples of skin tissue were prepared for histological study using hematoxlyin eosin (HE) staining. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA, Post-hoc LSD and Pearson correlation.RESULTS: ANOVA analysis showed that the number of macrophages and epithelialization among groups was a significantly difference (p <0.05). Post hoc analysis demonstrated that the mean number of macrophage in AV-75 (6.50), AV-50 (5.13), and AV-25 (3.93) were significantly higher compared to that of Cntrl-G (2.93). The mean of epithelialization AV-75% (25.35), AV-50 (18.15), and AV-25 (15.38), were significantly (p <0.05) higher compared to that of Cntrl-G (9.30). The Pearson correlation test indicated that there is a strong positive correlation (0.88) between the number of macrophages and epithelialization (p <0.05).CONCLUSION: The topical administration of Aloe vera gel extract for five days increased the number of macrophages and epithelialization in sunburned UVB induced sun burn.
