The Impacts of Students' Reading Habit and Their Language Attitudes toward Reading Comprehension Novari, Ari Fajria

This research is aimed as follows: to get empirical data and analyze the impacts of reading habit and language attitudes towards students’ reading comprehension at private Senior High School in Pandeglang, Banten Province. This research is done by statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, to test the normality, and Anova Table. The research was held at Private Senior High School in Pandeglang. Data was collected by giving instruments for reading habit (questionnaire/16 items), language attitude (questionnaire/16 items) to eleven grade students at Madrsasah Aliyah Mathla’ul Anwar, MAN 1 Pandeglang, and SMA Mathla’ul Anwar Menes. Due to the result, it can be inferred that there is an impact of reading habit towards students’ reading comprehension (Sig.=0.000 and t_test=14.648; while t_(table=) 1.669). There is an impact of language attitude towards students’ reading comprehension (Sig.=0.040 and t_test=0.846; while t_(table=) 1.669). There are impacts of reading habit and language attitudes toward students’ reading comprehension, the score of Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and F_test =160.024; while F_table=3.148, so Ho is rejected, it means that the regression coefficient is significant.

The purposes of this research is to analysis the source text from the novel with the title “chamberof the secret” written by JK Wrolling with using software monoconc Pro (MonoPro). This researchused software Monoconc Pro (MonoPro) Version 2.0 invented by Michael Barlow as a tool in theanalysis contributes a great role. As corpus software that functions to show the concordance ofwords, this tool starts the analysis by searching the focusing word ‘eyes’. Finding of this researchshowed that the making meaning is the most important aspect to avid readers since it is the placewhere the unity of the novel is. The research was done by using corpus-based analysis which itprovides objective result as it was gave evidences. In order to make meaning to the novel, theresearch made by searching on how the similarity of words that occur mostly in the novel andconclude the meaning by seeing on how they show based on its sentences and/ or its context asthis research has done.

This research paper aims to analyze the comparative between British English and American English, because many language learners or English users still confuse to differentiate both of them, especially in the countries where English is foreign language. Sometimes, it cause misunderstanding in communication. The research paper use qualitative research design with characteristic of content analysis. It uses observation and documentation in collecting the data. The obtained data is vocabulary in Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary 9th edition which published in 2015. The researcher took 150 words to be analyzed. Based on the data analysis there are three differences in Vocabulary of British English and American English. The researchers divide the differences into three categories they are differences in Vocabulary (word using), spelling, and pronunciation. The researcher found 50 different words in vocabulary (word using), 50 different words in spelling and 50 words which have differences in pronunciation. Based on findings of this research, it is significant for language learners or English user to know the differences of British English and American English and improve their vocabulary of British and American English in order to decrease misunderstanding in communication. The researchers hope language learners or English user can decide which English varieties that will they use and the can use one of English varieties consistently.

FOREIGNIZATION DALAM PENERJEMAHAN CULTURAL WORDS DARI BUKU JOHN BOYNE DENGAN JUDUL THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS Ari Fajria Novari

The aims of the study are to investigate the types of cultural words discovered in the novel and to investigate the translation procedures and foreignization approach used by the translator in translating the cultural words into Indonesian. A qualitative method was applied in this study. This method allowed the writer to make a systematic and factual description of the obtained data. The data were all the cultural words discover in the novel and a hundred of them were taken purposively. The data were categorized base on Newmark’s categories of cultural words (1988) namely ecology, material, social, and organization. The findings show that material was the most frequent category of cultural words found in the novel. Furthermore, from 100 cultural words translation, there are four out of ten strategies used in the framework of foreignization approach (Pedersen, 2005, Venuti, 1995, Judickaite, 2009). They are Preservation, Addition, Naturalization and Literal Translation. The findings show that Addition was the most frequent strategy used in the foreignization strategy in the novel. It means that the translator research making adding information in that SL it can be that the translate was strange transfer culture into TL culture, it does not TL culture. Based on the previous finding and discussion, the writer argues that the translation of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is easy to understand and may be readable by the Indonesian readers as the target readers since most of the cultural words has been translated well and well known by the Indonesian readers.

This study aims to analyze the idea of using interactive multimedia in improving students' mastery of concepts in science lessons. Research using quantitative methods with the method quasi-experimental. The study design is nonequevalent control group design. The steps taken in this research are: determining the sample, held a pretest, providing treatment in experimental and control groups, and provide a posttest. Based on the results of research can be concluded that there are positive and significant difference between the ability of students' mastery of the concept of an optical instrument that uses interactive multimedia learning with learning that uses Microsoft Office PowerPoint on science lessons. The use of interactive multimedia in learning can also enhance students' interest and motivation in learning to follow. Generally speaking, the use of interactive multimedia and significantly effective in improving the ability of mastering the concept of optical tools in the classroom science lesson VIII.

The writer of literature work sometimes takes the idea and way of thinking from her dynamic society. Those dynamic sometimes consist of certain symbol. The one of ways to reveal the symbol is by using semiotic structural approach. This study has aim to analyze symbols which are found in drama with the title “It’s Okay to not be Okay”. The method applied is descriptive. The result shows that there are elevent symbols in the story. The general meaning in symbol is about the moral, ethics, parenting and characters of style. One of them is the action of the characters of style Moon Sang Tae (the brother of Moon Kang Tae) he is an sindrom autism people because he usually wearing the lines t-shirt everyday. The action is the symbol of moral, ethics, parenting and characters of style can not be maintained only through appeal and advice, but there should be give the examples and theories. And the purposes from the writer drama is to give massages for the parents, children and the societies.

This research aimed to investigate and analyze the speech acts utterances, especially in illocutionary types happened in an interview podcast between Siti Fadilah and Deddy Corbuzier on YouTube. The research conducted a descriptive qualitative method. The data in this research was in the speech act uterances used Siti Fadilah and Dedy Corbuzier which contains elements of illocutionary speech acts. Based on the analysis result, the authors analyzed 107 data of illocutionary speech acts. In this research, the authors found 5 types of illocutionary speech acts which used in an interview podcast between Siti Fadilah and Deddy Corbuzier on YouTube. Those are; assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The percentage of illocutionary speech act happened in an interview podcast between Siti Fadilah and Deddy Corbuzier on YouTube: assertive (70,09%), directive (3,73%), commissive (0,9%), expressive (0,93%), and declarative (24,30%).

OPTIMIZING READING INTEREST IN CHILDREN OF MEDALSARI VILLAGE DURING THE PANDEMIC THROUGH STORYTELLING. This study aims to (1) Attach the implementation reading method to storytelling students’ interesting in reading at Desa Medalsari when pandemic era, (2) attach to happiness, joy and comfort in fostering reader and listener when reading the book and storytelling. The type of research used is qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive research design. This research uses interview, observation and documentation. The object of research is elementary students to leaving at Desa Medalsari. The research showed that students is very interesting and admit that grow up storytelling to help reading interest. The results showed that: (1) the goal of storytelling to make easier the students got the information from the speaker how to read a book from storytelling well. (2) Factors supporting the implementation of reading angles include: the role of the parents who do not provide reading habit, students are not fluent in reading, damaged book. (3) The advantages are the children get the experience of the interesting story. (4) The children will know books and start loving to read books.

STRENGTHENING THE EXAMPLE OF R.A. KARTINI TOWARDS STUDENTS BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE DISSEMINATION OF GREAT WOMEN INSPIRATIONAL TALKS MATHLA'UL ANWAR. This community service activity aims to provide empowerment to Mathla'ul Anwar University students based on the results of the dissemination of the Mathla'ul Anwar Inspirational Talk activity for Great Women. This activity was held to coincide on April 21, 2021 with the target of students residing in the Mathla'ul Anwar University environment from various majors or study programs. The holding of the Mathla'ul Anwar Inspirational Talk event was a form of appreciation for the role and struggle of Raden Ajeng Kartini in advancing the nation, especially for women whose roles were still limited at that time. By raising the theme of strengthening R.A Kartini's exemplary attitude, it is hoped that R.A Kartini's exemplary attitudes and traits can be transmitted to Indonesian women, especially women in Mathla'ul Anwar University. Through his fighting spirit and attitude, the figure of R.A Kartini can be an inspiration and able to awaken the younger generation to join the spirit and become a creative person.
