Abstract

Every language has its own specific rules in pluralizing nouns. This research found the ability of students in pluralizing nouns in English. Pluralizing nouns is divided into two forms, regular and irregular form. The objectives of the research were to find out their ability and problems to pluralize nouns. The instruments used in this research were test, and interview. The sample of this research was 32 students. Based on the test, the number of the ability was very good, 25% (8 students), good 38% (12 students), and medium, 15% (5 students), while bad 13% (4 students), andvery bad 9% (3 students). The problems were that the students did not know accurately the rules or patterns how to pluralize noun in English especially the irregular ones (63%), not understanding the materials of plural nouns (15%), feeling difficult to apply plural nouns in sentences related to concordances (13%), and Feeling confused with the process of pluralizing irregular nouns dealing with some exceptions (9%).

Abstract

Abstract This research investigates the effect of using Scanning Technique on Students’ Achievement in Reading Comprehension. The objective of the study is to find out the significant effect of using Scanning Technique on Students’ Achievement in Reading Comprehension. This research was conducted in three steps (pre-test, treatment. Post-test). The instrument for collecting data was multiple choice test. After the data had been collected, they were analyzed by using t-test formula in order to see whether Scanning Technique significantly effects students’ reading comprehension. The result of the analysis showed that t-observed was 3,36, it was higher than t-table 1,67 with the level of significant (0,05) and the degree of freedom (df) 52. The result of the analysis showed that hypothesis of the research was accepted. It means that there was significant effect of using Scanning Technique on Students’ Achievement in Reading Comprehension. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Scanning Technique

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to uncover what extent of the Revitalizing the Meaning of Nias Language Proverbs as Character Building foe EFL Learners in Nias. In conducting this research, the research designis Ethnography is a type of qualitative research design. To collect the data, the study employs the interviews with 5 question and observation given to 30 students from gradeXI MIA 1. The research conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Luahagundre. This study investigates of Nias language proverbs as character buildingwith four types of character according by (Khan, 2010), there are; Moral conservation, Social conservation, Environmental conservation, and Human conservation. As a result of the study, the student experiences a change in character after learning Amaedola in the classroom for example there are previous students whose words are offensive and researchers provide Amaedola as the learning process goes on about amuata nifaigi ba bua-bua nitӧngӧni which means a person is evaluated by his behavior and the manner of his work. The researchers have found that taught Amaedola can motivate the students to achieve knowledge and good character. Researchers found benefits for teachers in the application of amaedola or proverbs to establish character and motivate students to attain their goals. Abstract

Abstract In this study the researchers want to describe about Huling-huling Acca (Hha) As English Riddles For Fun EFL Learning Strategy In Toba. In conducting the researchers, the research designis Etnografi is a type of qualitative research design. To collect the data the study employ the interview with five questions and observation given to children and the people of Sosordolok, Toba Samosir. This study investigest of HHA as English riddles with five types of values according by (Paul Suparno), there are; sosialismy, adversity quotient, responsibilities, environment, self-relience. As a result the study, It turns out that a lot of kids and people around here are poorly informed about huling-huling acca (hha). As researchers carried out further research, many people which had come to understand hha have proved invaluable. To illustrate "sae mangan ro siganjang obuk" so the values can can in this example of hha are moral and ethical. Because it should have finished eating the rest of the dirt must be eaten. Therefore these hha can be made into a fun learning medium and as an enhanced batak culture in its own language. Key words: Huling-huling acca, english riddles, EFL, learning strategy

Abstract

Abstract Online learning is one of the alternatives that can overcome the COVID-19 pandemic that is endemic in 2021. This is very troubling to the community, especially disrupting learning in schools. Students who want to learn are constrained by the outbreak of the disease, so solutions are needed to overcome these problems. The purpose of this study was to get an overview of the implementation of online learning at SMA Negeri 4 Medan as an effort to suppress the spread of COVID-19 in school. The research subjects are students of the Biology Education Study Program. Data collection is done by interviewing through zoom cloud meeting. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles & Huberman interactive analysis technique. Weak supervision of students, limited signal in remote areas and high internet costs are challenges in online learning. However, many benefits can be obtained from online learning, including increasing learning independence, interest and motivation, and the courage to express ideas and questions. The results showed that: (1) students had the basic facilities needed to participate in online learning; (2) online learning has flexibility in its implementation and can encourage the emergence of self-regulated learning and motivation to be more active in learning, and (3) distance learning encourages the emergence of social distancing behavior and minimizes the emergence of student crowds which are considered to reduce the potential for spreading COVID-19 in the campus environment. Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PPM) ini bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan minat budaya membaca dan menulis / budaya literasi siswa-siswa Kelas 5 Akselerasi di SDN Percobaan Medan terhadap Bahasa Inggris, dengan tujuan agar siswa-siswa dapat menguasai literasi Bahasa Inggris yang di dapatkan dalam materi Story Telling yang di ajarkan. Dalam Pengabdian Masyarakat kali ini, ada 5 tahapan untuk metode yang telah dilalui yang terdiri dari observasi, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, penerapan, dan evaluasi. Hasil dari PPM ini menunjukan bahwa program Pelatihan Literasi Bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Percobaan Medan merupakan  program yang bagus karena dapat membantu siswa dalam memahami Literasi Bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam Story Telling. Siswa-siswa juga mengalami pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan karena mereka juga mempraktikan bahan literasi tersebut di depan kelas. Hal ini juga melatih dan membangun rasa percaya diri siswa sehingga di harapkan nantinya dapat bernilai positif dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar, khususnya dalam pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This article dealt with surface taxonomic errors of using appropriate verbs in writing descriptive text. The objectives are to investigate the types of common errors done by EFL learners by describing the dominant errors and also to elaborate on the reason why the learners did the errors in the descriptive text. The subjects of this research consist of 30 Senior High learners from some schools as the representative samples. Descriptive Qualitative Method with a case study design applies to the research. In collecting the data, essay tests and interviews were used. Findings show that there were some types of surface taxonomic errors such as misformation with 110 (60,11%) errors, omissions with 45 (24,59%) errors, addition with 16 (8,74%) errors, and misordering with 12 (6,55%) errors. Thus, misformation is the dominant type found. All of the errors committed to 183 of using appropriate verbs in writing descriptive text. Beyond the dominant errors such as misformation and omission, the errors occurred because some learners put the wrong tenses and verbs. Furthermore, the learners had less comprehension in structures related to the organization of the descriptive text.

Abstract

Penelitian ini didorong atas penerapan gaya belajar terhadap pembelajaran sastra, salah satunya adalah gaya kinestetik yang bertujuan untuk (a) menginvestigasi implementasi gaya pembelajaran kinestetik sebagai apresiasi mahasiswa dalam memahami puisi yang umumnya dipandang memiliki keragaman makna dari struktur dan unsur-unsur yang terkandung di dalamnya. Sebab mengapresiasikan puisi tidak hanya dari sekedar mengartikan kata demi kata tetapi juga mengekspresikannya dalam batin dan gerakan. Selanjutnya, (b) untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor pendukung gaya belajar kinestetik terhadap pemaknaan unsur puisi. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan studi kasus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Prima Indonesia. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan catatan lapangan sebagai teknik triangulasi dalam pengolahan data. Temuannya adalah terdapat 9 dari 10 ciri umum gaya belajar kinestetik yang diterapkan mahasiswa yang didukung oleh faktor internalnya terbagi dua yaitu secara fisikologis dan psikologis sedangkan faktor eksternalnya adalah lingkungan seperti kampus, keluarga, dan juga masyarakat. Sehingga, penelitian ini dapat memberi kontribusi untuk mengidentifikasi implementasi gaya pembelajaran kinestetik sebagai apresiasi mahasiswa terhadap pemaknaan unsur-unsur puisi dan juga faktor-faktor yang mendukung pembelajaran puisi dengan gaya kinestetik. Selain itu, menumbuhkan minat dan kreativitas dalam pembelajaran mata kuliah puisi terutama merevitalisasi karya-karya sastra.

Abstract

This research conducted to analyze the language literacy skills enhancement through zoom cloud meeting. From the research problem, the researchers formulated the purpose of this study was to describe language literacy skills through zoom cloud meetings at Universitas Prima Indonesia in 5th semester and explained the parts of language literacy skills dominantly increased during online learning through zoom cloud meeting in 5th semester students at Universitas Prima Indonesia. This research used qualitative research with the case study method where in data collection using interview by sharing the google form, distributed to 30, 5th semester students at Universitas Prima Indonesia for the Academic Year 2021/2022. The results found that the use of zoom during online learning really helped students in improving their language literacy skills and language literacy skills for Indonesian prima university students when using zoom cloud meetings in online learning, 66.7% and above said it was very good and the literacy section. The dominant language literacy skill enhanced was using zoom cloud meetings is reading ability with a percentage of 53.3%, then followed by listening ability at 26.7%, speaking ability at 16.7%, and writing ability with a percentage of 3.3%

Abstract

This study deals with gender toxicity in language communication. The aim of this study is to describe toxic language that is accepted by male and female in circle communication. Descriptive qualitative is used as research method of this study. This study described the result of society language communication recorder. The result, there are two kinds of toxic language, toxic muscularity and toxic femininity language that was accepted by male and female in language communication.
