Abstract

Abstract. The aim of this study was to describe the improvement of the students’ achievement in speaking by Role Playing at Drama lesson at English department at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Muhammadiyah of North Sumatra.   The specific aim was how using to apply role play in studying drama and how the role play method can improve the students’ achievement in speaking. This research was used an action research that used two cycles. The subject of the study was 42 students at Academic 2015 – 2016 from English Department.  The instrument of research was speaking test, questioners and observation to collect the data. Technique for collecting data was descriptive qualitative and quantitative. Technique for analyzing data was used descriptive which describe the finding of research which used some tables, frequency which was benefit to describe the achievements of the students in speaking from pre-test, and cycle 1 up to cycle 2. The finding of research was the students’ achievement in speaking were good by using Role playing which conducted one semester. Based on the data, the students’ achievements got improvement in every cycle. The students got A was 23.8 %, B/A and B 76,1 % and there were not students got C/B and  D and E. It meant the indicators of this research could achieve by using Role playing at drama lesson when we compared with conventional method. The study by using role playing is more interested than conventional method. Key words: Improvement, Speaking Achievement, Role Play

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) Analyze the application of integrated learning model of type connected in reminding creativity and students' learning ability; 2) Analyze student response after application of connected learning model; 3) Evaluate students' creativity and learning ability after applied learning model. This research was conducted at University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. The study was conducted in two years. The first year starts from November 2016 to July 2017 and continues the second year beginning in September 2017 until May 2018. Data are collected from observations and questionnaires. Data analysis is done by finding mean, mastery, ability and creativity of students. The results showed that integrated learning method type connected can increase creativity, generate positive responses to learning and improve student learning ability

Abstract

This study deals with an analysis on students’ errors in writing Decsriptive text. The objectives of this study were  to find out the kinds of error made by students in writing descriptive text, and to find out the most dominant kinds of error made by students in writing descriptive text. This study was conducted at SMP SWASTA BUDI SETIA SUNGGAL with the number of population was 175 students of eight grade students. They were into five classes. By using random sampling was conducted to take the sample of research. The total sample was 35 students of eight grade students. Written test as the instrument was used in this research. The method of the research was descriptive quantitative method. The research of this study is only one week. The result of the test showed that there were four types of error in writing. They were omission, addition, misformation and misordering. The dominant types of error in writing descriptive text was omission with 86 or 43% error, then misformation with 45 or 22.5%. Next misordering error with 39 or 19.5%. And the last addition error with 30 or 15%. The cause of error found in students” writing text, they were intralingual interference, interlingual interference and carelessness.Key Word :Error Analysis,Writing,Descriptive Text,

Abstract

The aims  of this study is to give the description the development model of learning drama based on creativity and how the students respond  toward teaching learning proses based on creativity. The sample of this research is the students of Teacher Trainning and education semester V      at Academic year  2014/2015 which contained 35 students. Descriptive quantitative and qualitatitive be designed. In this study can be developed four skills of languages such as; speaking, listening, reading and writing. The Instruments of the research are speaking test, listening test the students observed the students act as actors speaking, in reading test, the students read the text drama and writing test, the students write a simple drama.  Keywords: development, learning model, creativity, drama

Abstract

Pelatihan teknik membaca cepat (Skimming dan Scanning) bagi siswa kelas XI jurusan Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan di SMK Swasta Yapim Biru-Biru, merupakan pelatihan yang bertujuan untuk memaksimalkan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks berbahasa Inggris dan mempermudah mereka dalam menjawab soal-soal yang berhubungan dengan teks tersebut. Subjek pelatiha ini merupakan siswa kelas XI SMK Swasta Yapim Biru-Biru, jurusan Teknik Komputerdan Jaringan. Adapun metode pelatihan yang digunakan pada pelatihan ini berupa metode ceramah, yaitu pemaparan materi pelatihan yang nantinya menjadi tolak ukur keberhasilan pelatihan dilakukan. Adapun beberapa instrumen penunjang seperti laptop, kamera, projector dan teks cetak, menjadi bagian penting dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan. Hasil dari pelatihan menggunakan teknik membaca cepat (skimming dan scanning) menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan membaca siswa khususnya membaca teks berbahasa Inggris, hal ini dapat diketahui dengan suksesnya siswa menyelesaikan soal-soal yang berhubungan dengan teks bacaan yang disedikan dalam bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This study deals with types of process in BTS’ song lyrics. The objectives of the study were to find out the types of process, to determine the dominant types of process  and to describe the implication of the types of process used in BTS’ song lyrics. Ten songs were taken as the data and analysed by descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using the documentation method. The data was analysed through Miles & Huberman (2014:266) that involved: (1) data condensation, (2) data display, and (3) conclusion drawing. The finding of research showed that all types of process used in BTS’ song lyrics and there were 286 clauses in the BTS’ song lyrics. The most dominant types of process used in BTS’ song lyrics was material process with 92 (32.17%) occurrence Then it is followed by relational process with 91 (31.82%) occurrence, mental process with 65 (22.73%) occurrences, verbal process with 18 (6.29%) occurrences, behavioural process with 13 (4.54%) occurrences, and the last existential process with 7 (2.45%) occurrences. The implication of types of process used in BTS’ song lyric was to find that the BTS’ song lyrics can aid development and  support the assertion that music and rhyme as well as to increase the ability in spatial reasoning which leads to the greater success in the future, and this song lyric indicates the activities or events that happen in the outside of human beings, it means that this song lyrics contain about activity, action or events so that  all were happened or done as physically and materially. The action or physical verbs are mostly used

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) identify the use of  Ellipsis   the Main Character’s Utterances in the “Trolls” Movie.,    The objectives of the study were to identify the ellipsis on the main character’s utterances in the “Trolls” movie, to determine the types of ellipsis (clausal, verbal and nominal) used on the main character’s utterances in the “Trolls” movie, and to derive the most dominant types of ellipsis found on the main character’s utterances in the “Trolls” movie. The study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative research. The source of data was taken from the whole of “Trolls” movie and transcript of the “Trolls” movie that focused on the use ellipsis and types of ellipsis. They consisted of 38 pages as the data. The findings of the study were, there were three types of the ellipsis found in the “Trolls” movie. They were nominal ellipsis, verbal ellipsis and clausal ellipsis by the number of occurrences were nominal was 25 (39.1%), verbal ellipsis was 5 (7.8%), and clausal ellipsis was 34 (53.1%). So the most dominant type found on the main character’s utterances in the “Trolls” movie amount to 34 (53.1%).

Abstract

This research aims  to find out the significant improvement of the students achievement in reading comprehension by applying Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). The subject of this research was X grade of SMK Bandung-2 at Academic Year 2017/2018. It consisted of one class with 30 students as respondents. The objective was to discover the significant improvement of the students’ achievement in reading comprehension by applying Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). This research was conducted by using classroom action research. The instruments of collecting data were observation sheet, and Reading  tests. The research finding is shown of  that there was an improvement on the students’ reading achievement on narrative text from each cycle. It was showed from the mean of pre-test which was 56.5 with persentage 0%. After CTL was applied in the first cycle, there was an improvement of the result of the students’ in reading comprehension the mean was 69.16 with persentage 33.3%. It means that there was an improvement from pre-test to post-test I was 33.3%. And for the second cycle after reflection on the first cycle, there was an improvement of students’ mean which was 85 with persentage 100%. Based on the result showed that there was an improvement after applying CTL was 66.7%. It concluded that students’ achievement in reading comprehension by applying contextual teaching and learning (CTL) improved.

Abstract

This study  aims    to investigate  the  effect  of  Multisensory Teaching Method ontheStudents’ Reading Achievement.Thisresearchappliedexperimentalresearch.The populationof thisresearchwastakenfromtheSevengradeandthesecondyearstudentsof juniorhigh school in SMPSwasta PGRI 3 Medanatacademic 2017/2018. There were 3 classes consisting 113 students. This research  was  applied cluster random sampling.  This  research  used  experimental researchdesignnamely Onegrouppre-testandpost-test,Therefore,theresearch tookoneclassastheexperimentalclass.  The samplewastakenfromthe students in VII-1 who consisted of 38 students. Theresearcher were given treatment  by  Multisensory Teaching Method.  The  instrument  of research is  amultiplechoice test  whichconsistof20items.Thedatawere analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the data showed that tobserve 13.3 > ttable 1.68 with degree of freedom (df)= n-k. The hypothesis was accepted. It proves that Multisensory Teaching Method significantly effect to the students’ reading achievement.

Abstract

Folklore based on local culture has a mandate as the author's message to the reader (listener), because it has ethnic sensitivity in understanding local culture as cultural identity. The study uses the opinion of Dundes (1965:2) Bruvand (1965), Danandjaja (1997) and the concept of mandate according to Bascom in Danandjaja (1995:3-20). Miles and Huberman's (2007) qualitative research methodology includes data collection of folklore texts, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. Based on the analysis of folklore data from a book entitled 'Halilian: Turi-turian Hi Halak Sipirok Banggo-banggo' by H. Abdurrahman Ritonga (2006). Folklore has a very strong ethnic bias in folklore which functions to bring closer to indigenous peoples who are rooted in characters. The mandate in the Sipirok folklore is a message based on the knowledge of the author who wants to be conveyed to others through the intermediary of the story said or composed. Through the stories, attitudes and behavior of the characters, readers are expected to be able to take lessons from the messages conveyed and mandated by the mandate as messages conveyed by the author through the behavior of folklore characters essentially, messages that educate readers. The message contained in the Sipirok folklore text as essential in educating Based on the folklore data entitled Anthology Book: 'Halilian: Turi-turian ni Halak Sipirok Banggo-banggo which has the form: Bittot Van De Longas, the results of the analysis of the text found the following messages: a ) mandate to love each other, b) mandate to live a life of concern for lack, c) mandate to empathize, d) befall (unfortunate fate of characters), e) mandate to be humble, f) mandate to work hard, g) to (not) be wise in the story message the people of Angkola.
