Abstract

Empowerment of creative thinking skills is important in every lecture activity, including practicum. This study aimed to analyze students' creative thinking skills in Plant Microtechnique practicum. This research used descriptive method in which the participants were the seventh semester biology education students (n=20) of State University of South Sumatera, Indonesia. The student has taken Plant Microtechnique Course in the previous semester. The instrument used was essay test developed based on creative thinking indicator. The data were processed by calculating the percentage for each indicator and categorized into three levels (i.e., low, medium, and high). The findings revealed that students’ creative thinking skills in Plant Microtechnique laboratory practices were medium for fluency indicator, and low for flexibility, originality, and elaboration indicators. Therefore, it is necessary to revise learning strategies that support the empowerment of students' creative thinking in Microtechnique Laboratory practices.

Abstract

Many trichomes in plant organs have been studied previously, but research on leaf trichomes in several plants in the Lamiaceae tribe has never been studied before. The research has been conducted at the Laboratory of FKIP Palembang. This study using a descriptive method. The plants used in this study were from the Lamiaceae family, such as Ocimum sanctum, Penorema canescens, Salvia splendens, Lavandula angustifolia, Hyptis rhomboides, Anisomeles indica, and Clerodendrum japonicum. Observations using a binocular microscope at magnifications of 40, 100, and 400. This study was conducted by observing the type of trichome, the number of trichome cell arrangement, the shape of the trichome, and the size of the trichome. The results showed that in the Lamiaceae tribe there were glandular trichomes and non-glandular trichomes. The number of trichome cell arrangement consists of unicellular and multicellular trichomes. The longest average trichome size ranged from 89.5 microns and the shortest average ranged from 8.7 microns. The results are used as basic data in the anatomical structure of the trichomes of the Lamiaceae tribe and as learning enrichment material for KD 3.3 and KD 4.3 in the form of booklets.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan memperoleh gambaran tentang kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menghasilkan representasi gambar struktur jaringan tumbuhan dalam bentuk tiga dimensi (3D). Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang telah mengikuti mata kuliah Anatomi Tumbuhan (n=30). Instrumen yang digunakan berupa instrumen kemampuan representasi hasil pengamatan mikroskopis dari gambar 2D ke gambar 3D yang telah divalidasi oleh pakar. Skor penilaian hasil representasi gambar 3D digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan representasi mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan reprentasi gambar mahasiswa masih tergolong rendah. Rata-rata kemampuan representasi gambar 3D mahasiswa pada konsep jaringan parenkim 2,3 (sedang); jaringan kolenkim 2.0 (rendah) dan jaringan sklerenkim 1,9 (rendah). Rata-rata kemampuan representasi pada jaringan dasar adalah 2.07 (rendah). Hal ini menuntut perlunya dilakukan pengembangan pembelajaran pada mata kuliah anatomi tumbuhan yang mampu meningkatkan kemampuan representasi mahasiswa terkait dengan struktur jaringan tumbuhan dalam bentuk 3D.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between ability of scientific argumentation and learning outcomes of students on the virus topic with the research subjects were X IPA students in SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara 2018/2019 (n = 47). This type of research is quantitative descriptive with the correlation method. This study used two data collection techniques is written test and observation. The result showed that students learning was 49% very good, 15% good, 17% sufficient, and 19% less. The results of writing scientific argumentation of students are 9% excellent, 11% good, 21% sufficient, 26% less, and 33% very poor. The average scientific argumentation of students based on Toulmin's Argument Pattern (TAP) is 100% of students able to submit a claim, 5% able to submit data, 77% able to convey a warrant, 6% able to convey backing, 7% able to convey rebuttal and 3% able to convey qualifer with the quality of scientific argumentation in general at level 2. The results of the correlation test of scientific argumentation include writing argumentation and TAP with learning outcomes is 0,311 it is means a low correlation. Based on the results showed a correlation between the ability of scientific argumentation with learning outcomes of class x students in SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of problem-based learning (PBL) on the scientific argumentation of class X students at Senior High School in Indralaya, Indonesia, on biodiversity education. The research method was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group research design. This research was conducted in class X-science-3 (n=33) as an experiment and X-science 4 (n=33) as a control at Senior High School in Indralaya, Indonesia. The data collection instrument was a test question that included scientific argumentation skills in essay questions and recorded class discussions. Data on writing scientific arguments are analyzed using cohesion and coherence, sentence effectiveness, concept correctness, critical analysis of problems and problem-solving. Data on the ability of scientific argumentation in writing and oral are also analyzed based on Toulmin's claim, data, warrant, backing, rebuttal, and qualifier. Furthermore, based on the Toulmin aspect, the students' quality level of scientific argumentation is determined. The result showed that the level of argumentation quality of students who applied the PBL model was mainly at level 3, while the control class was mainly at level 1. The effect being studied is significant. The PBL can significantly influence the ability of scientific argumentation in class X students at senior high school in Indralaya, Indonesia.

Abstract

Increasing the effectiveness of learning is done by exploring the initial understanding of science teacher candidates for the concept of cells to be studied. Exploring the prior knowledge of science teacher candidates about cell concepts can be done using the Cell Cognitive Diagnostic Assessment (CCDA) instrument.This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the CCDA instrument that has been developed. The research sample (n = 163) was student science teacher candidates coming from the Department of Chemistry Education, Physics Education, and Biology Education, Faculty Teaching Training and Education, Sriwijaya University, Indonesia. The topics tested include the structure and function of cells, cell membranes and molecular transport, cell reproduction, and cell communication. The results showed that all the items developed were valid, with a high level of reliability (0.86), very good discrimination index (0.44), and a balance was found between the number of questions classified as difficult and moderate. Although the research results show that this instrument has been valid and reliable, it still needs to be improved on the items so that they can be used in the future.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain information about students' creativity in arranging the results of practicum activities in the botany of non-vascular plant course.  This research was used descriptive design. The participants of this study were third semester biology education students (n=25) at a state university in Sumatera, Indonesia. The student was taken botany of non-vascular plant course. The instruments used in this research were performance instruments that measured students' creative thinking skills, questionnaires and observation guidelines that have been developed. The performance instrument used contains several indicators, namely: fluency, flexibility, originality dan elaboration. The data of creative thinking skills were processed by calculating the percentage (%) for each indicator and categorized into four levels (very creative, creative, quite creative and less creative). The results showed that students' creative thinking ability in compiling reports on the practicum activities is (2.68) classified into creative categories with an average of each indicator that are: fluency (3.06); flexibility (2.96), originality (2.95), and elaboration (1.76). The results show that the average student has good creative thinking skills in compiling reports of the practicum activities of botany of non-vascular plant course

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perubahan morfologi pada tiap fase perkembangan siklus hidup tumbuhan paku (Pteridophyta) dan waktu yang diperlukan selama proses perberkembangan mulai dari fase pembelahan sampai fase sporofit muda. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskritif. Data dikumpulkan melalui kegiatan pengamatan dan dokumentasi kemudian data tersebut deskripsikan secara komprehensif serta disajikan dalam bentuk tabel. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan  bahwa struktur morfologi siklus tumbuhan paku yaitu Davalia denticulata,Microsorum scolopendria dan Nephrolepis biserrata  mengalami perubahan-perubahan pada setiap fase siklus hidupnya. Waktu yang dibutuhkan tumbuhan paku mulai dari fase pembelahan sampai dengan terbentuknya sporofit muda yaitu selama 7-10 minggu. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat dijadikan materi tambahan pada pelajaran biologi di SMA kelas X semester 1 yang berhubungan dengan kompetensi dasar 3.8 Menerapkan prinsip klasifikasi untuk menggolongkan tumbuhan ke dalam divisio berdasarkan pengamatan morfologi dan metagenesis tumbuhan serta mengaitkan peranannya dalam kelangsungan kehidupan di bumi. Kata-kata kunci: Morfologi, pembelahan, protalium, siklus hidup, sporofit.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a 3D image representation of leaf epidermis tissue in several Apocynaceae plants as enrichment material for high school biology material. The method used is a descriptive method by observing the leaf epidermis tissue in several Apocynaceae plants, namely: Adenium obesum, Catharanthus roseus, Cerbera manghas, Nerium oleander, Plumeria alba and Wrightia antidysenterica. The representation of 3D images is done using Paint-3D software and arranged in the form of a booklet. The results showed that the representation of the structure of the epidermis and stomata in the form of 3D images displayed varying characteristics. The results of the feasibility test show that the booklet has an average score of 93 and is included in the very valid category. In conclusion, the 3D image representation of the epidermal tissue with Paint-3D software can display the characteristics of the tissue structure more clearly and the booklets that are arranged are suitable for use as teaching materials. Abstract

Pembelajaran Virtual merupakan perubahan sistem pembelajaran yang terdampak karena pandemi Covid-19. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan sarana berupa media elektronik  untuk memfasilitasi kondisi tersebut. Peningkatan kualitas kompetensi guru sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran terutama pada pelaksanaan  kegiatan pembelajaran di masa pandemi. Oleh sebab itu, diharapkan melalui pelatihan terkait pembelajaran daring, maka diharapkan juga guru akan mampu mengembangkan kompetensi dalam pemanfaatan google class room sebagai media pembelajaran daring. Model kegiatan yang akan dilaksanakan yaitu model pendampingan yang ditujukan kepada guru IPA kota Palembang. Metode yang ditempuh dalam kegiatan ini meliputi presentasi materi dan praktik penggunaan google classroom dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran daring. Berdasarkan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan pelatihan ini peserta pelatihan yaitu guru – guru MGMP IPA Kota Palembang dapat meningkatkan kompetensi mereka dalam upaya merancang pembelajaran daring berbasis google classroom. Melalui pelatihan ini, guru – guru lebih memahami fungsi fitur – fitur yang terdapat dalam google classroom. Dengan demikian guru – guru dapat mengoptimalisasi penerapan google classroom dalam proses pembelajaran daring.
