Abstract

We investigated the sediment properties and distribution in Balohan Bay, which is located in southern Weh Island, Aceh Province. The aim of this research was to clarify the sediment distribution mechanism in the Balohan Bay using a statistical approach. Samples were collected on January 2016 using coring method. Sediment grain-size distribution from 14 stations was obtained using wet sieve analysis. A large amount of fine sand and very fine sand were found in Balohan Bay, as a result of several tributaries discharged in those areas. The sediment distribution in eastern stations showed an indication as a coarser size and a poorer sorted area, as they were adjacent to the steep cliff.

Abstract

The exact number of coral species in Indonesia is not unclear yet, in 2002 the coral taxonomist, JEN Veron, stated 590 species, and it was supported by an Indonesian coral taxonomist, Suharsono, eight years later. The current coral species data is 605 but it is from Coral Triangle Region area (CT).  The eastern of Indonesia, which is located in the Coral Triangle Region, has received a lot of attention from coral researchers, due to coral species that have been described. On the other hand, the coral reef from the western part of Indonesia, including in the East Kalimantan, has not been explored much in recent times. Through the ecoregion view, E. Kalimantan region is clustered into ecoregion 43 (Sulu Sea) which has 540 coral species. Miang Island is one of the inhabited islands from E. Kalimantan, and has an unexplored coral reef ecosystem. The method had been used in this research is descriptive, which uses photos of live corals to describe colony characteristics corals. The results of the study have described 36 species of coral and several invertebrates that make up coral reefs on Miang Island. Keywords:Hard coralAcroporaPoritesIdentificationPulau Miang

Abstract

The scad (Decapterus sp.) is one species commonly caught using purse seine and landed at the Pusong Fish Landing Base, Lhokseumawe, Aceh. The fishermen at this site do not have accurate knowledge about the fishing season of the scad, which leads them to miss out on peak fish catching season and increases the ambiguity about the fish landing data. The goal of this research is to compute the trend of Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) for scad fisheries over the last five years (2013-2017) and to examine the fishing season trends of scad landed at Pusong fish landing base. This study took place at the Pusong Fish Landing Base in August 2020. The moving average approach was used to process catch data from 2013 to 2017. Primary and secondary data about scad production and number of fishing trips were used to compile the research findings. The results showed that the CPUE for purse seine catch landed at Pusong Fish Landing Base varies from year to year. The highest CPUE value was recorded in 2015 with 442,534 kg/trip, and the lowest was in 2013 with a value of 27,674 kg/trip. The fishing season index for Scad (Decapterus sp.) has a high rating, indicating that this fish species can be caught all year. Based on the fishing season identification criteria, the fishing season index value greater than 100% indicates the peak season. Results from this research indicate that the peak season for scad landed at Pusong Fish Landing Base occurs in July, August, September, October, and November, with their index values of 151%, 146%, 119%, 122%, and 126% respectively. A fishing season index score of less than 100% indicates low season, this was recorded for January, February, March, April, May, June, and December (48%, 97%, 57%, 90%, 62%, 86% and 97%).Keywords:ScadFishing Season IndexCPUE

Abstract

Ectoparasites which often attack tilapia include Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus spp., Gyrodactylus spp., and Epistylis spp. This research aims to determine the types, prevalence, and intensity of ectoparasites found on tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in the floating net cages of Batanghari River, Jambi. The research was conducted from February through March 2020. A survey method is carried out through direct sampling at the study site to identify the tilapia ectoparasites. The sampling technique is done using random sampling. Ninety fish were taken for parasite inspection at the Fish Quarantine, Quality Control, and Safety of Fishery Products Class I Jambi Station. The observations found three types of ectoparasites namely Dactylogyrus sp., Epistylis sp., and Oodinium sp. The highest ectoparasite prevalence rate was found from the species Epistylis sp. with a value of 37.7% and an intensity value of 24.7 ind/fish. The prevalence of Dactylogyrus sp. was 26.6% and an intensity value of 1.3 ind/fish. The lowest prevalence value was from Oodinium sp. with a prevalence value of 7.7% and an intensity value of 3.2 ind/fish. The prevalence and intensity values of tilapia ectoparasites based on their locations were 56.6% and 23 ind/fish (station I), 50% and 18.6 ind/fish (station II) and 43.3% and 17.6 ind/fish (station III). The types of ectoparasites found on tilapia in this study were Epistylis sp., Oodinium sp., and Dactilogyrus sp. The parasite with the highest prevalence and intensity found during the survey was Epistylis sp.Keywords:EctoparasitesTilapiaPrevalenceIntensityFloating net cages

Abstract

Rapfish is used as an indicator to assess pelagic fisheries' sustainability in Aceh's northern waters. This study aims to determine the sustainability of pelagic fishing and the factors that mostly influence the sustainability of pelagic fisheries. Surveys and interviews with questionnaires were conducted in collecting data, then analyzed by RAPFISH analysis with five dimensions. The results show that the ecological and economic dimensions are in a quite sustainable category, the social dimension is in a less sustainable category, the technological dimension is in the very sustainable category and the institutional dimension is in the less sustainable category. In addition, there are several indicators that most influence the sustainability of pelagic fisheries with purse seine on the ecological dimensions; (1) the location of fishing grounds; (2) the Fishing season. The economic dimension is influenced by (1) assistance from the government; (2) dependence on subsidies. Meanwhile, the social dimension is influenced by (1) The development of the number of fishermen; (2) The level of conflict. Lastly, the technological dimensions which influenced by (1) fishing vessel size; (2) Mechanical power, and institutional dimensions (1) The role of customary leadership, and (2) Fishermen's involvement in the process of preparing management regulations
