The documentary data was used in form of poem script “Acon and Rhodope; or, Inconstantly” written by Walter Savage Landor. Content analysis was used by the writer to analyze the content of poem which was adapted from Cohen, et al. (2007, p. 475). The findings showed that there were 174 words or expressions found in poem which were divided into seven types of imagery such as: visual, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, tactile, thermal, and kinesthesia. There were also seven functions of imagery in the poem: 1) visual imagery representing the sense of sight; 2) auditory imagery representing the sense of sound; 3) gustatory imagery or representing the sense of taste; 4) olfactory imagery representing the sense of smell; 5) tactile imagery representing the sense of touch; 6) thermal imagery representing the sense of heat and cold; and 7) kinesthesia imagery appealing to physical sensations of movement, balance, and muscular tension. Also, there were 95 archaic words found in poem to enhance the aesthetical or musical value of the poem, to find out the social life, customs, belief systems and generally cultural richness of the time he emerged, and to make his language old and solemn. It is suggested for the teacher to understand stylistic analysis used by the poets in their poems; and introduce stylistic analysis to the students so that they can improve knowledge of stylistic analysis and understand its meanings. Keywords: archaic words, imagery, stylistic analysis, Walter Savage Landor

The use of comic strips as teaching aids for narrative writing is the subject of this study. This study used comic strips in the context of narrative writing to examine students' feelings of self-consciousness. The researchers conducted a case study to gather qualitative information for this study. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument in this study. The form of the questionnaire used by the researchers is a close-ended question with a short rating questionnaire (strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree or strongly agree) which consists of ten statements. To analyze the data, the researchers used the formula of the computation for calculating the data to be a percentage of each student's response to each questionnaire item by presenting them on the table and then described it as the questionnaire was examined. The findings indicate that using comic strips as teaching aids for the narrative writing curriculum is well received by students. It showed that the students gave positive responses towards the implementation of comic strips as teaching media in narrative learning material. Almost all of the students in the classroom were interested and enjoyed it while the researchers implemented the comic strips. The students are active in class activities. They felt using the comic strips as a learning media makes them better able to develop their imagination and create ideas for developing the stories discussed because, in the comic, the explanations accompanied by pictures and dialogues make it easier for them to interpret the stories or material discussed, even though in terms of language skills and vocabulary are inadequate.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the experiences of EFL Teacher trainees’ engaging in online classroom interaction during the Covid-19 pandemic and to find out how EFL teacher trainees perceived the benefits of engaging in online classroom interaction during Covid-19 through reflecting on their experiences. This qualitative case study used the data taken from online classroom observation and semi-structured interviews administered to ten EFL teacher trainees in semester two of English education department in one private university in Ciamis. The data analysis of this study was coding and summarizing. This study produced three main points, namely: Challenges and Opportunities for EFL teacher trainees’ experience in engaging online classroom interaction during the pandemic, the most effective strategies to help EFL teacher trainees engaging online classroom interaction, and how EFL teacher trainees perceive benefits in engaging in online classroom interaction during covid-19 through reflecting on their experiences. Based on the findings, engaging in online classroom interaction in a situation like the Covid-19 pandemic where all classes shifted to online mode is crucial. Being active and initiative to interact with instructors, peers, and content helps the learners engage, enjoy, improve and master English in a fun, effective, and efficient way. This experience has reflected the learners to be more independent, disciplined, and aware of how impactful encouragement, feedback, care, and respect are. Thus, it is recommended for English lecturers to create a classroom situation that makes the learners feel comfortable to initiate an interaction using English and improve the technique in teaching-learning activities.
