Abstract

An understanding of the importance of maintaining dental and oral health in this pandemic era will determine the overall health of the community in order to avoid exposure to the Covid-19 virus. Communities are required to be able to overcome their own dental problems. The use of infographics in print and electronic media is the most effective way to attract people to want to read and understand the contents of the Importance of Maintaining Dental and Oral Health during the Covid-19 Pandemic for the Community South Kalimantan. This socialization is in the form of a series of activities carried out to socialize the importance of maintaining dental and oral health during a pandemic by guiding the infographics in 2 languages, namely Indonesian and Banjarese. This activity was carried out at Sungai Ulin Health Center, Sungai Ulin Village, North Banjarbaru District, Banjarbaru City with limited counseling participants namely 20 people. The results of community service supported by questionnaire data illustrated the importance of effective communication media in conveying information about the importance of maintaining oral health during a pandemic. Infographic socialization about the importance of maintaining dental and oral health during a pandemic was needed to support the level of public knowledge in maintaining dental and oral health. The knowledge provided could be the basis to be realized in the behavior of daily life and in checking the dentist during a pandemic.

Abstract

Background: Herpangina is an acute infectious disease with self-limiting properties. While herpangina may heal without any treatment, it may be followed by various complications such as meningitis, encephalitis, cardiomyopathy, or even death. In 2018, there was a 10.07% prevalence rate of viral infection in Banjarmasin city, South Kalimantan. One of which was herpangina. Objective: To elucidate the management of herpangina. Case: Young female patient, 11 years old, complained of multiple ulcerations on the posterior side of her mouth with excruciating pain when swallowing. Ulceration had appeared for three days which was initially commenced by fever and cough. Case Management: The patient was prescribed methisoprinol syrup 250 mg four times a day, ibuprofen syrup 250 mg four times a day, mouthwash containing aloe vera extract to be applied thrice daily, and explicit instruction for bed rest. Conclusion: Dental practitioners must differentiate herpangina from other differential diagnoses thus enabling the acquirement of final diagnosis through clinical examination. This will significantly assist dental practitioners to provide precise clinical therapy for the patient with herpangina.

Abstract

Inhibition of cathepsin L (Cat L) can be considered a target for COVID-19 treatment. Starchytapheta jamaicensis is a plant from the Verbenaceae family that is commonly used for medicinal purposes. This study aims to analyze the inhibitory activities of compounds of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis toward Cat L by computational docking analysis. Ten compounds contained in the extracts (i.e., α-spinasterol, apigenin, luteolol-7-glucuronide, friedelin, hispidulin, chlorogenic acid, ipolamiide, geraniol, hentriacontane, and γ-aminobutyric acid) were selected as ligands; decanoyl-arg-val-lys-arg-chloromethylketone and oxocarbazate were used as the reference. Computational docking analysis was performed using Autodock Vina integrated into PyRx 8.0 and visualized using the Discovery Studio Visualizer v19.1.0.18287 (2019 version) based on the scoring functions. Seven bioactive compounds were bound more strongly than decanoyl-arg-val-lys-arg-chloromethylketone: α-spinasterol, apigenin, luteolol-7-glucuronide, friedelin, hispidulin, chlorogenic acid, and ipolamiide. However, all bioactive compounds were bound with less strength than oxocarbazate. Apigenin showed the best affinity, with much hydrogen bonding, and had the same ASN18 residue as Cat L inhibitor 1. PreADMET showed that all compounds of S. jamaicensis did not have hepatotoxicity, mutagenic, and carcinogenic criteria. The current research indicates that S. jamaicensis compounds can be used as an inhibitor for Cat L and as a COVID-19 drug candidate.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: The World Health Organizations (2018) set Indonesia as the third largest cigarette consumer in the world. Smoking habits can cause pathological conditions in periodontal tissue, one of which is smoker's melanosis. Smoker's melanosis is an anomalous pigmentation that can be seen with the naked eye characterized by scattered, uneven, and blackish brown patches in the oral cavity tissue. The incidence of smoker's melanosis is thought to be influenced by the duration and number of cigarettes consumed per day. Objective:  Study was conducted to analyze the relationship between length of smoking and the number of cigarettes consumed each day with the onset of smoker's melanosis. Method: The method that will be used in this study is a literature review with a narrative review procedure. The literature search was carried out using sources from PubMed, Science Direct and Google scholar. The literature that has been obtained is then filtered according to the inclusion criteria, collected, entered in the results table for analysis, and then interpreted. Results: The results showed that from a total of 25 reviewed journals, it was stated that the number of cigarettes consumed per day and the length of smoking. The more and longer the person smokes, the more likely it is that smoker's melanosis will occur. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the length of smoking and the number of cigarettes consumed per day on the incidence of smoker's melanosis. Keywords:  Duration of smoking, Gingival hyperpigmentation, Smoking habits, Smoker's melanosis. ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: World Health Organizations (2018) menetapkan Indonesia sebagai pengonsumsi rokok terbesar ketiga di dunia. Kebiasaan merokok dapat menyebabkan timbulnya kondisi patologis pada jaringan periodontal, salah satunya smoker’s melanosis. Smoker’s melanosis merupakan pigmentasi anomali yang dapat dilihat dengan mata telanjang ditandai dengan bercak yang menyebar, tidak merata, dan berwarna coklat kehitaman di jaringan rongga mulut. Timbulnya smoker’s melanosis diduga dipengaruhi oleh faktor durasi dan jumlah rokok yang dikonsumsi perharinya. Tujuan: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara lama merokok dan jumlah merokok yang dikonsumsi setiap hari dengan timbulnya smoker’s melanosis. Metode: Metode yang akan digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah literature review dengan prosedur narrative review. Pencarian literature dilakukan menggunakan bersumber dari PubMed, Science Direct dan  Google scholar. Literature yang telah didapatkan kemudian disaring sesuai kriteria inklusi, dikumpulkan, dimasukkan dalam tabel hasil untuk dianalisis, dan kemudian diinterpretasi. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dari total 25 jurnal yang telah di-review, menyatakan bahwa jumlah rokok yang dikonsumsi per hari dan lama merokok. Semakin banyak dan lama orang tersebut merokok maka akan semakin besar kemungkinan terjadinya smoker’s melanosis. Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara lama merokok dan jumlah rokok yang di konsumsi perhari terhadap timbulnya smoker’s melanosis. Kata kunci: Hiperpigmentasi gingiva, Kebiasaan merokok, Lama merokok, Smoker’s melanosis.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Teeth and mouth problem ranks first in the top 10 disease that most Indonesian people complain. One of the factors that affect the caries index is the water used for daily. Water that contains metals can affect the caries index. There are several types of metals that can affect the DMF-T index, including manganese. Manganese can function as a caries causing agent. Objective: This study aims to measure the DMF-T index of people in Daha Selatan who use water containing manganese to brush their teeth. Methods: This research is an observational analytic design with a cross sectional approach. The subjects of this research are the 20-39 years people of South Daha. Measurement of water containing manganese was carried out in the laboratory and then assessed the DMF-T index to see the relationship between the use of water containing manganese and the incidence of dental caries. Results: The results showed that male respondents had a DMF-T index of 5.02 and a DMF-T index of people aged 30-39 of 5.53. The chi square correlation test showed that there was no relationship between the use of water containing manganese on the DMF-T index in Daha Selatan District. Conclusion: The majority of people aged 20-39 years in Daha Selatan District have a moderate DMF-T index and there is no significant relationship between the use of water containing manganese and the DMF-T index of the community in South Daha District.  Keywords: Caries, DMF-T Index, Manganese, WaterABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Penyakit gigi dan mulut manusia menduduki urutan pertama dari daftar 10 besar penyakit yang sering dikeluhkan masyarakat Indonesia. Salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi indeks karies yaitu air yang digunakan untuk sehari-hari. Air yang memiliki kandungan logam dapat memengaruhi indeks karies. Salah satu jenis logam yang dapat memengaruhi indeks DMF-T yaitu mangan. Mangan dapat berfungsi sebagai agen penyebab karies. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur indeks DMF-T masyarakat di Kecamatan Daha Selatan yang menggunakan air mengandung mangan untuk menggosok gigi. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik observasional dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Sampel penelitian merupakan masyarakat di Kecamatan Daha Selatan yang berusia 20-39 tahun. Pengukuran sampel air mengandung mangan dilakukan di laboratorium selanjutnya melakukan penilaian indeks DMF-T untuk melihat hubungan antara penggunaan air mengandung mangan dengan kejadian karies gigi. Hasil:  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan responden berjenis kelamin laki laki memiliki indeks DMF-T sebesar 5,02 dan indeks DMF-T masyarakat berusia 30-39 sebesar 5,53. Uji korelasi chi square menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan penggunaan air mengandung mangan terhadap indeks DMF-T di Kecamatan Daha Selatan. Kesimpulan: Mayoritas masyarakat yang berusia 20-39 tahun di Kecamatan Daha Selatan memiliki indeks DMF-T kategori sedang serta tidak terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara penggunaan air mengandung mangan terhadap indeks DMF-T masyarakat di Kecamatan Daha Selatan Kata Kunci: Air, Indeks DMF-T, Karies, Mangan

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Treatment carried out at the peak of a growth stage is one of the keys to success of orthodontic treatment. The determination of growth and development using chronological age is considered less accurate. Biological age is considered more accurate in evaluating a person's maturity status, so bone age evaluation is an option. Hand radiographs are commonly used to assess skeletal maturity because they show different levels of ossification at each age level. Objective: to determine the correlation between the level of hand bone maturity and chronological age in Banjar people aged 10–14 years. Methods: Correlation analytic research with cross-sectional design. The population of this study is the Banjarese, with affordable populations in SDN Sungai Bilu 1 and SMPN 6, Banjarmasin. The samples for this study were male and female Banjares aged 10–14 years who met the inclusion criteria. The minimum sample size is 30 samples. Results: Spearman's test showed a significance value of p = 0.033 (p<0.05) and the strength of the correlation r = 0.391. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the level of hand bone maturity and chronological age in Banjar people aged 10–14 years. The Banjar tribe aged 10–14 years are mostly found in the fifth hand bone maturity stage. The correlation strength value (r) is 0.391, which means that the correlation between the level of hand bone maturity and chronological age is included in a moderate correlation. Keywords : Banjarese population, Bone age, Chronological age, Hand-wrist maturation index ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Perawatan yang dilakukan ditahap puncak pertumbuhan adalah salah satu kunci keberhasilan perawatan ortodontik. Penentuan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan menggunakan usia kronologis dinilai kurang akurat karena pertumbuhan dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor, salah satunya ras.Usia biologis dinilai lebih akurat dalam mengevaluasi status kematangan seseorang dibanding usia kronologis, sehingga evaluasi bone age menjadi pilihan.Radiografi tangan umum digunakan untuk menilai maturitas skeletal karena memerlihatkan perbedaan tingkat osifikasi pada setiap tingkatan umur. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui korelasi tingkat maturitas tulang tangan dengan usia kronologis pada suku Banjar usia 10-14 tahun. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik korelasi dengan rancangan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian ini adalah suku Banjar dengan populasi terjangkau pada siswa di SDN Sungai Bilu 1 dan SMPN 6 Banjarmasin. Sampel penelitian ini adalah laki-laki dan perempuan suku Banjar berusia 10-14 tahun yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Besar sampel minimal dihitung menggunakan rumus analitik korelatif dan didapatkan hasil sebanyak 30 sampel.  Hasil: Uji Spearman korelasi tingkat maturitas tulang tangan dengan usia kronologis pada suku Banjar usia 10-14 tahun menunjukkan nilai signifikansi p = 0,033 (p<0,05) dan kekuatan korelasi r = 0,391. Kesimpulan: Terdapat korelasi antara tingkat maturitas tulang tangan dengan usia kronologis pada suku Banjar usia 10-14 tahun. Suku Banjar usia 10-14 tahun paling banyak terdapat pada tahap maturitas tulang tangan ke-lima. Nilai kekuatan korelasi (r) sebesar 0,391 yang artinya korelasi antara tingkat maturitas tulang tangan dengan usia kronologis termasuk dalam korelasi moderat. Kata kunci :Indeks maturasi pergelangan tangan, Suku Banjar, Usia kronologis, Usia tulang

Abstract

Background: Fostering Clean and healthy lifestyle (CHL) and Early Detection of Caries is an effort to create and preserve hygiene and health-oriented life behaviors in the community, so that people can be independent in preventing and overcoming the health problems they face. Methods: Pretest basic knowledge about clean and healthy behavior patterns in the family environment, Conduct CHL Counseling and Training, how to process food properly, detect caries, and conduct post tests. Processing, Analysis, and Presentation of Data: By carrying out community service activities, it is expected to provide benefits, especially for the RT 49 RW 08 Complex Bumi Cahaya Complex to gain an understanding and proper CHL techniques, as an effort to maintain the acceleration of changes in health behavior that occur as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and can practice how to detect caries early and take preventive measures so that it can improve the quality of life of the people of RT 49 RW 08 Komplek Bumi Cahaya Bintang, South Banjarbaru District. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was an increase in participants' knowledge from a higher percentage of knowledge. The results of statistical tests using Wilcoxon obtained a P-value of 0.004 which means P <0.05, which means that there is an average difference between the value of knowledge before the pretest and post-test. Conclusion: Educational activities have been effective in increasing the knowledge of PKK mothers RT 49 RW 08 Bumi Cahaya Bintang Complex.

Abstract

Background: Inhibition of tissue repair is a symptom of prolonged diabetic inflammation that occurs in wounds resulting in delayed healing. Inflammation can be controlled by giving food supplements that have anti-inflammatory properties such as Channa micropeltes (CM). CM has high protein content, including albumin, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, vitamin C, and zinc. Purpose: This study aimed to analyse the effect of the CM extract on the levels of IL-10 in the wound healing process of normal and diabetic rats. Methods: This study was a true experimental design with a post-test-only control group design. The samples were the diabetic model group given CM extract at 16 mL/kg BB dose and negative control group for 14 days. Results: Compared to the control, the concentration of IL-10 in DM group was significantly higher in the DM without CM treatment. Interestingly, we found the level of IL-10 in DM-CM was significantly decreased while the level of TNF-a in DM-CM decreased as well. Conclusion: CM at a dose of 16 mL/kg BW for 14 days in the wound healing process of Wistar rats can increase IL-10 in the normal group but could not increase IL-10 in the diabetic group. Keywords: Anti-inflammatory, Channa micropeltes, Diabetes, Interleukin-10.

Abstract

Pemberdayaan masyarakat berbasis eco-green merupakan upaya mengembangkan kemandirian dan kesejahteraan masyarakat dengan meningkatkan pengetahuan, sikap, keterampilan, perilaku, kemampuan, kesadaran, serta memanfaatkan sumber daya melalui penetapan kebijakan, program, kegiatan, dan pendampingan yang sesuai dengan esensi masalah dan prioritas kebutuhan masyarakat, yakni dengan memperhatikan aspek ramah lingkungan. Secara spesifik program utama adalah pembuatan pupuk kompos dari limbah dapur. Adapun tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah mitra memahami urgensi kemandirian dalam pengelolaan lingkungan, mitra memiliki keterampilan dalam mengolah sampah organik menjadi pupuk kompos, dan masalah penumpukan sampah di area perumahan teratasi. Metode yang digunakan untuk mencapai target kegiatan yaitu dengan sosialisasi urgensi pemberdayaan masyarakat berbasis eco-green dan pelatihan pembuatan pupuk kompos dari limbah dapur. Berdasarkan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang telah dilakukan pada hari Sabtu tanggal 23 Juli 2022, maka ketercapaian sasaran yang diperoleh adalah sasaran mengalami peningkatan dalam pemahaman urgensi pemberdayaan masyarakat berbasis eco-green, sasaran mengalami peningkatan dalam pengetahuan pengolahan sampah rumah tangga yang tepat, sasaran mengalami peningkatan dalam pengetahuan jenis-jenis sampah, dan sasaran mengalami peningkatan dalam pengetahuan pengolahan sampah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk kompos. Hal ini ditunjukkan melalui hasil evaluasi kegiatan dengan pengisian kuesioner, setelah proses pelaksanaan sosialisasi menunjukkan bahwa 93% mitra yang hadir telah memahami dan mengetahui tentang makna pemberdayaan masyarakat yang ramah lingkungan, sedangkan 100% mitra telah mengetahui tentang cara mengelola limbah organik yang dihasilkan rumah tangga dengan tepat, dan ada 93% mitra mengetahui alat dan bahan apa saja yang harus dipersiapkan untuk proses pengomposan. Ecogreen-based community empowerment is an effort to develop community self-sufficiency and welfare by increasing knowledge, attitudes, skills, behavior, abilities, awareness, and use of resources through the establishment of policies, programs, activities, and assistance that follow the nature of the problem and the priority needs of the community, namely taking into account environmental aspects. Specifically, the main program is the production of compost from kitchen waste. The aim of this activity is that the partners understand the urgency of independence in environmental management, that the partners have skills in processing organic waste into compost, and that the problem of waste accumulation in residential areas is solved. The method used to achieve the activity's objective is through the socialization of the urgency of eco-green-based community empowerment and training on making compost from kitchen waste. Based on the community service activities held on Saturday, 23 July 2022, the achievement targets achieved is that the targets have increased the understanding of the urgency of eco-green-based community empowerment, the targets have increased the knowledge of proper household waste processing, the targets have increased the knowledge of types - types of waste, and the targets have increased the knowledge of processing household waste into compost. This is shown by the results of the evaluation of the activities by filling in questionnaires. After the socialization process, it was shown that 93% of the partner present understood and knew the meaning of environmentally friendly community empowerment. In comparison, 100% of the partners knew how to manage organic waste produced by households properly, and 93% of the partners knew what tools and materials should be used for the composting process.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Mauli banana is a typical plant in South Kalimantan which contains tannins (67.59%), saponins (14.49%), alkaloids (0.34%), and flavonoids (0.25%) as natural antiseptics inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Basil is plant that contain eugenol (70%), flavonoids (4.75%), tannins (4.6%), and alkaloids (1%) as natural antiseptics inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans. This study was to examine the antibacterial activity of a mixture of banana mauli stem stems and basil leaves against Staphylococcus aureus. Purpose: to analyze the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus in the mixture of banana mauli stems and basil leaves extracts. Method: true experiment using pretest and posttest with control group design with 11 treatments consisting of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%, and aquadest. Antibacterial activity test was conducted using dilution method. Determination of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was determined by contrasting the absorbance value before and after incubation. Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) was obtained by testing the concentration with negative absorbance value on MSA media incubated for 24 hours. Results: The results of this study indicated that the concentration of 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100% could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus but these concentrations had yet been able to kill Staphylococcus aureus. Conclusion: The MIC of mauli banana and basil leaves extract combination against S aureus presentts at 40% concentration yet MBC cannot be obtained.Keywords : Antibacterial activity, Basil leaf, Dilution method, Mauli banana stem, Staphylococcus aureus
