Abstract

During the first World Conference on Muslim Education in 1977 in Mecca, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas presented a highly important theory to the Muslim community. According to al-Attas, the most fundamental problem being confronted by the ummah today is the loss of ad?b. Al-Attas then offered a resolution in the form of ad?b-based education (ta'd?b). In this article, the writer has tried to examine the concept of ad?b as defined by al-Attas and its relevance towards education in Indonesia. The writer has used a qualitative method in the form of content analysis towards the works of al-Attas. Moreover, the writer has also conducted interviews to complement the required data. The results show that the concept of ad?b as outlined by al-Attas more than 30 years ago still holds a high relevance towards education in Islam. Ad?b not only presents itself as a theoretical concept, but also practical and applicable; encompassing aim of education, curriculum, teacher qualification, learning methods, evaluation methods and including also the means and infrastructure for learning. The concept of ad?b by al-Attas, if comprehended correctly, could be a solution to the crisis in the world of education today.Keyword: adab, attas, education

Abstract

Adab (ethic/morality) of student toward his teacher is very important so that the knowledge obtained is a blessing and useful. But this blessing and benefit will not be immediately felt. Usually those blessing and benefits will only be realized in the future the knowledge gained being implemented in life. The adab of students bears a direct impact upon the teachers such that it can give a good motivation to the teacher: the teacher will feel good for us, be sincere, and pray good for us. The purpose of this study is to know the relationship between pattern of parenting the students with their ethic or morality towards their teachers in Pondok Pesantren Al Falak. This research is quantitative in nature. The study finds that the pattern of parenting in Pondok Pesantren Al Falak Pagentongan Bogor is inclined more towards authoritarian. This is evident from the number of respondents' answers which opt "a'" (60%), while those who opt for the answer "b" only 17%, the answer "c" is 10%, and the answer "d" is 12%. The study further proves that the pattern of parenting in this Pesantren plays an important role in shaping the ethic of the students in Pondok Pesantren AL Falak Pagentongan Bogor. This is evident from the number of respondents' answers with the answer "a" as much as 75%, the answer "b" as much as 15%, the answer "c" as much as 7%, and the answer "d" as much as 3%. From the calculation rxy of 0.367 numbers the correlation index obtained is not marked negative, which is located between 0.20 - 0.40. Based on the guidelines of the product moment correlation table used, it can be said that between the santri parenting variable (X) and the student adab variable to the teacher (Y) there is a significant relationship, but tends to be low / weak. Abstract

Islamic Jurisprudence is a knowledge on the practical Islamic law based on its detailed approve concerning with the deeds of human. This article discusses on the position of Jurisprudence in relation with two different functions, indeed as a positive law and moral standard. In order to derive the Islamic law from its primary sources, al-Qur’an and the Sunnah, Islamic Jurisprudence needs theoretical tool and methodology which commonly named as the Principle of Islamic Jurisprudence. So the Islamic Jurisprudence is considered as Islamic epistemology which stands as the basis of the development of Islamic Jurisprudence as a knowledge. As the basis of epistemology, the principle of Islamic Jurisprudence is closely related to theology. Furthermore, this knowledge develops a principle on adillah which its foundation has been constructed by Syafi’i, indeed al-Qur’an, the Sunnah, Ijma’ and Qiyas. Since constructed by Syafi’i, this Principle of Islamic Jurisprudence has some changes and innovations. This innovation has been in the long duration of time with complicated problems and helped the ummah to solve the problems.

Abstract

Beginning from the nineteenth century, Arab-Muslim intelligentsias marched to reform their societies. Many things since then have been carried out. They put forward various proposals, advanced numerous ideas and concepts and established several institutions. Nevertheless, their condition has yet improved. In some context, it even deteriorates. Triggered by this situation, a number of Arab and Muslim scholars then embark on a new reform project. But at this time, their reform attempt is materialized in the form of intellectual and cultural project. For they believe that the basic problem and crisis beset their society lies in their understanding of turâts. Thus, unless this understanding is corrected, no genuine reform would be able to be materialized. Muhammad ‘Abid al-Jabiri, a Moroccan scholar, is one of the many Arab scholars who have taken this course. For this purpose, he constructed his own project which he names Naqd al-‘Aql al-‘Arabi. This article specifically attempts to shed light on conceptual apparatus and methods that he uses which this study finds to have originated from different schools of thought of western philosophy and social sciences, important of which is Marxism and postmodernism.

Abstract

The movement of liberalism in Islamic world at the time being has made the Islamic syari’ah as the object of criticism which must be banned because it considered as the problem of history. Strangely, they always proud on what they have done as interpretation and renovation. In Indonesia liberalism movement factually not without the chesing scenario of politics and world intellects. It is really difficult to avoid the influence of America and its campaign against terrorism in this movement. They try to raise a positive image then what has been presented by the groups of radicalism, fundamentalism, and conservatism, they seem like to change this image, but finally they changed their own image which tend to be more Westernised than the West itself. At least there are three categories, the argumentation of the liberalist against the enforcement of Islamic syariat, that is: historical argumentation, with consideration on Shariah purposes and human right. This article elaborates the position of liberalism view in contemporary Islamic thought, retrieves the process of liberalism in the view of Syari’ah modernisation and criticism toward argumentations of liberalists.

Abstract

Childhood is often referred to as the golden age. At this time, the children are like a sponge who is very easy to absorb and remember all the information. One example is memorizing the Qur’an. If from an early age the child has been given a good education and taught about good character, then in the future the child will become a memorizer of the Qur'an (Qur’anic Tahfidz) who has spiritual and emotional intelligent and also has a superior character. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the implementation of the concept of 9 pillars of character in learning tahfidz for early childhood. Therefore, this study aims to provide an overview of the process of implementing the concept of 9 pillars of character in tahfidz learning in Maktab Terpadu Generasi Madani. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The study found that the character education curriculum at Maktab Terpadu Generasi Madani does not really refer to the 2013 TK/PAUD National Curriculum nor the 9 pillars of character book in implementing character values to their students. However, the study conclude that the nine character pillars have been implemented in tahfidz learning at Maktab Terpadu Generasi Madani through hadith, daily prayers, and Islamic songs because the maktab has a book of Muatan Khas Maktab.

Abstract

Universitas Ibn Khaldun (UIKA) Bogor became one of the campuses that adopted the idea of Islamization of Science (IIP) into its educational curriculum. The idea pioneered by Al-Attas and Al-Faruqi was socialized by A.M. Saefuddin in the Chancellor's 1983 speech with the term 'Islamization of Science and Campus' or ISK. Islamic Faculty (FAI) UIKA has been called the front line of ISK’s implementation. So how is the ISK process at UIKA Bogor? What FAI did lecturers understand about the concept of IIP? How is the application? This study will describe the perceptions of FAI lecturers regarding the concept and application of IIP. The researcher conducted a library research study on the IIP concept, as well as interviews with FAI lecturers regarding its concept and application in FAI. It was concluded that FAI lecturers’ perceptions were different. There are those whose perceptions are close to the pioneers, most of them understand it only as of the desecularization of knowledge, and the rest perceive it as the practice of Islamic teachings in daily life. AbstrakUniversitas Ibn Khaldun Bogor (UIKA) menjadi salah satu kampus yang mengadopsi gagasan Islamisasi Ilmu Pengetahuan (IIP) ke dalam kurikulum pendidikannya. Gagasan yang dipelopori Al-Attas dan Al-Faruqi ini disosialisasikan A.M. Saefuddin dalam pidato rektor tahun 1983 dengan istilah ‘Islamisasi Sains dan Kampus’ atau ISK. Fakultas Agama Islam (FAI) UIKA disebut sebagai garda terdepan dalam penerapan ISK. Lantas bagaimana proses ISK di UIKA Bogor? Apa yang dosen-dosen FAI pahami tentang konsep IIP? Seperti apa aplikasinya? Penelitian ini akan memaparkan persepsi dosen-dosen FAI terkait konsep dan aplikasi IIP. Peneliti melakukan studi library research tentang konsep IIP, serta wawancara terhadap dosen-dosen FAI terkait konsep IIP dan aplikasinya di FAI. Disimpulkan bahwa persepsi dosen-dosen FAI berbeda-beda. Ada yang persepsinya mendekati para pelopornya, sebagian besar memahaminya sebatas desekularisasi ilmu, dan sisanya memersepsikannya sebagai pengamalan ajaran Islam dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

This article aims to map perceptions of the relationship between science and religion among students at Ibn Khaldun University, Bogor and to look at the demographic factors that influence these perceptions. This research is a quantitative study using a questionnaire. This study found that in the typology of pro-religious conflict, almost all students were at a high level. For harmonic typology, about two-thirds of students were at a high level, and the remaining third was at a moderate level. For the independent typology and pro-science conflict, the majority of students were at the moderate level. In an Islamic campus environment where respondents can be said to be uniform, there is no significant difference in perceptions based on the education taken, the origin of education, and gender.AbstrakArtikel ini bertujuan untuk memetakan persepsi hubungan antara sains dan agama pada mahasiswa di Universitas Ibn Khaldun Bogor serta melihat faktor-faktor demografis yang mempengaruhi persepsi tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pada tipologi konflik pro-agama, hampir seluruh mahasiswa berada pada tingkat tinggi. Untuk tipologi harmonis, sekitar dua pertiga mahasiswa berada pada tingkat tinggi, sepertiga sisanya berada pada tingkat sedang. Untuk  tipologi independen dan konflik pro-sains, mayoritas mahasiswa berada pada tingkat sedang. Pada lingkungan kampus Islam di mana responden dapat dikatakan seragam, tidak ada perbedaan persepsi yang signifikan berdasarkan pendidikan yang ditempuh, asal pendidikan, serta jenis kelamin.

Abstract

Artikel ini mendeskripsikan pandangan Richard Dawkins mengenai teori evolusi dan menganalisis pengaruh worldview ateis yang dipegang Dawkins terhadap teori evolusi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah studi pustaka (library research). Dalam penelitian ini, penulis merujuk pada karya-karya Richard Dawkins terutama The God Delusion yang membahas tentang ateisme, The Greatest Shown on The Earth yang merangkum pikirannya mengenai evolusi, dan The Magic of Reality yang berbicara tentang sains secara umum. Penelitian ini akan dilakukan dalam tiga tahap, yaitu inventarisasi, seleksi, dan evaluasi kritis. Pertama, Dawkins menganggap bahwa posisi teori evolusi sangat kuat sampai-sampai ia menganggapnya sebagai fakta atau realitas yang pasti terjadi. Kedua, terlihat jelas bahwa worldview naturalisme mempengaruhi penyimpulan sains. Bahkan keberanian Dawkins berani menaikkan status evolusi dari teori menjadi fakta atau realitas merupakan konsekuensi worldview ini.
