Abstract

Rabbitfish (Siganus canaliculatus) is a dominant catch of beach seine in seagrass beds at Lonthoir Strait, Banda Ar-chipelago.The aims of this research were to investigate the length frequencies, length-weight relationships, and growth of rabbitfish in this area. This research was carried out from July to December 2009 using beach seine in three locations of seagrass area of Lonthoir Strait. Data analyzed using FiSAT program. The results showed that the length of rabbitfish ranged from 44 to 300 mm TL. From the length and weight data of males and females, the following population parameters were estimated: W=0.017L149 (r = 0.88) and W=0.012L156 (r = 0.89), L„ (mm) = 307.13, W„ (g) = 84.74 and 92.40, K = 0.50 and 0.52. The growth models of males and females rabbitfish described by equation: Lt=307.13[e' 0 50(t+0.i72)] and Lt=307.13[e'a52(t+0165)], while growth model base on weight described by equation: Wt=84.74[e' o.5o(t+o.i72)] and Wt=92.40[e'a52(t+0165)]. This study concluded that the population of rabbitfish in this area mostly juveniles and consisted of one cohort. AbstrakIkan beronang (Siganus canaliculatus) termasuk salah satu hasil tangkapan dominan dari nelayan jaring pantai di padang lamun Selat Lonthoir, Kepulauan Banda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap distribusi ukuran panjang, hubungan panjang-bobot, dan pertumbuhannya. Pengamatan terhadap hasil tangkapan ikan beronang di tiga lokasi telah dilakukan sejak bulan Juli hingga Desember 2009 dengan menggunakan jaring pantai. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak FiSAT. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan kisaran panjang total ikan beronang yang tertangkap adalah 44-300 mm. Model hubungan panjang-bobot yang diperoleh untuk ikan beronang jantan adalah W=0,017L1,49 (r = 0,88) dan betina W=0,012L1,56 (r = 0,89). Panjang teoritis (L„) sebesar 307,13 mm, bobot teoritis jantan (W„) 84,74 g dan betina 92,40 g dengan nilai koefisien pertumbuhan (K) sebesar 0,50 dan 0,52. Pertumbuhan ikan beronang jantan dan betina di Selat Lonthoir dapat diestimasi dengan rumus Lt=307,13[e'0,50(t+0,172)] dan Lt=307,13[e'0,52(t+0,165)]. Model pertumbuhan ikan beronang berdasarkan bobot (W„) dapat diduga dengan rumus Wt=84,74[e'0,50(t+0,172)] untuk jantan dan betina Wt=92,40[e'0,52(t+0,165)]. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar ikan beronang yang hidup di padang lamun Selat Lonthoir berukuran juwana dan umumnya dijumpai dalam satu kelompok umur.

Abstract

This study was carried out from July to December 2009 in three locations of seagrass area at Lonthoir Strait, Banda Archipelago, Moluccas. The aim of study is to analyze seagrass condition and spatial distribution of the rabbitfish Siganus canaliculatus. The result shows that the species density of the seagrass at three stations ranged from 7.48 to 235.50 ind. m-2 with the highest species density is Cymodocea rotundata at station 1 and 2, and Thalassia hemprichii at station 3. The highest abundance of the fish was found at station 1 and the lowest one was at station 2. According the Kruskal-Wallis test, abundance of male and female rabbitfishes were not statistically different at among stations (H = 0.17, P = 0.66 and H = 0.83, P = 0.92). The correspondence analysis shows that there were two groups of habitat of the rabbitfishes in research station. The first group is station 1 and the second one is station 2 and 3.
