Abstract

Most countries have culture to show their identity in the world. China is one of them which has exotic tradition from others since century years ago. One of the exotic traditions was known as footbinding. Furthermore, Chinese mostly believes Confucianism as a study in their life and conceives of every organization as a patriarchy. The goal of the study is to present the impact of Confucianism to the main characters, Snow Flower and Lily, towards their friendship and their marriage shown in the novel, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. The doctrine of Confucius or Confucianism that they do when they were children has influenced their life, especially to their friendship and their marriage. The study also wants to find out their attitude and their marriage as the effect of Confucianism. Library research is used as the research method in this study. To answer the problem, the study explains about characters and setting, which are parts of elements of fictions. It also explains about friendship, marriage in China, and Confucianism itself. It can be concluded that Confucianism has an effect to the main characters’ attitude toward their friendship and their marriage. One of the main characters’ attitude has changed her friendship and got lucky in her marriage because of Confucianism.

Abstract

The study aims at obtaining information on the profile of cognitive conflict of students by giving intervention on understanding Algebra of students at Pangkep State Polytechnic of Agriculture. The research method employed descriptive qualitative. This study involved the students who experienced cognitive conflict as a sample. The instruments used in collecting the data were written test and interview.  Setiap mahasiswa selesai menyampaikan jawaban, akan diberikan informasi baru yang dapat memicu terjadinya konflik kognitif. Each of the students delivered his or her answer: he or she would be given new information that could trigger cognitive conflict. The results of the study reveal that (1) the students experienced cognitive conflict in determining set of completion on inequality  that did not have a zero divisor. Based on students understanding, quadratic inequality that difficult to be factored or the factors were not integers that did not have solutions, (2) the students experienced cognitive conflict in solving equation  that had infinite solutions. The students tended to work procedurally without identifying relational elements formed by the expressions. The subjects did not see the objects produce in first step  that showed experession on the left was equal to the expression on the right side, (3) the students experienced cognitive conflict in determining set of completion on inequality  after giving intervention with new information by talking squares on inequality segment, (4) cognitive conflict happened as well on conceptual understanding of correlation between  dengan

Abstract

This study discusses the problem of reading comprehension of students of SD Negeri 1 Teluk Betung Galik North Bandar Lampung 2018/2019 academic year. The ability to read comprehension in this study includes: (a) disclosure of the contents of the reading, themes, and facts; (b) the ability to retell; and (c) the ability to draw reading conclusions. This study aims to find out and describe how the level of reading comprehension of students. To achieve the objectives of the study, the authors used a descriptive qualitative method, while the data collection techniques were essay test techniques. The population in this study amounted to 30 students and the study sample was set at 30 people. The sampling technique used is the total sampling technique. Analyzing the data in this study is to use a percentage. Reading comprehension ability in fifth grade students in even semester SD Negeri 1 Teluk Betung Galik North Bandar Lampung 2018/2019 academic year obtained an average score of 69.99 this value is included in the criteria enough. Based on the aspects of the assessment, the value of reading comprehension in the aspects of the disclosure of reading content, themes, and facts is in the sufficient category with an average score of 61.66. The ability to read comprehension in the aspect of retelling ability is in a sufficient category with an average score of 66.66. The ability to read comprehension in the aspect of the ability to draw reading conclusions is in a good category with an average score of 83.33.
