Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the student’s learning behavior in isolated school it was conducted in a qualitative approach in SMPN SatapTojabi, Babussalam, Lasusua Sub District, North Kolaka District, South east Sulawesi it was one of the isolated schools in North KolakaDistric, located on the mountain it was about eight kilometers from the level of land with no electricity, people still used solar power for doing an activity related to electricity. The subject was the third grade students in the academic year 2019 – 2020 with 14 students. The data was collected by using observation and interview. The result showed that they gave various behaviors, some of them were diligent, obedient, and polite some of them were lazy, always messing about, and denying. By giving positive reinforcement students were not eager to get the reward even though the teacher promised a special reward some of them were still not change the behaviors. These behavior such as did not do the homework on time, messing about when their friends start to work, do not come at class on time, and keep the class noisy. While by giving negative reinforcement some students still much less discipline and less concern about their education.

Abstract

This research is aimed to answer the problem of the research “What are the students’ needs in the Marketing Department at SMK Negeri 1 Kolaka in learning English?” This research uses a qualitative research design where the data are explained in the description form. The instruments of the research are questionnaires and interview guidelines. The participants of the research are students of the Marketing Department in the second grade in SMK Negeri 1 Kolaka. The result showed the student needs, the first is for the student's necessities who are more likely to learn speaking skills, and also for the material they wanted is online marketing material, which means that they considered their needs in the future when they enter the world of work, another thing that students’ needs in their English learning is they need a material that is appropriate to their major so that what they learn in school can be applied when they are working later, while the students’ lack is their speaking skill and also vocabulary deficiencies. Where they have no space or place to use their English skills that they have learned and for the desires of students in terms of learning English, students are more likely want to learn English by going outside. And for the learning methods that used by the teacher, students are more likely want to study in pairs or groups with their friends rather than study alone. Besides, students also want the teachers who can become facilitators and guides in the English learning process.

Abstract

This research was conducted at MAN 1 Kolaka. The objective of this reaseach is to find out information and data weather there is any correlation between English language learning strategy and students’ thinking style at the second grade AGAMA I of MAN 1 Kolaka. The research design is descriptive quantitative. The data were collected through questionnaires. English Language Learning Strategy at the second grade AGAMA I of MAN 1 Kolaka are Metacognitive with the total frequency is 47% percent and Studets’ Thinking Style are Extrovert with the total persentage is 53%. The Population of the research was the second grade students of MAN 1 Kolaka and the sample of the research was class AGAMA I which consisted of 15 students. The data analysis used in this research was product moment formula which showed that there was no any correlation between English Language Learning Strategy and Students’ Thinking Style. It could be synthesized that hypothesis were r-count was lower than r-table. So H1 was rejected and H2 was accepted. The coefficient Correlation between English Language Learning Strategies and Students’ Thinking Style did not have any significant correlation with the r-count = -0,218 was lower than r-table 0,514 at the significance level 5% and degree of freedom (df) was 15 (-0,218>0,514). Therefore, it was categorized as low correlation. H0 and H1 was rejected and H2 was accepted.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) to find out the description of the implementation of the Assessment in Curriculum 2013 in English Subject of SMPN Bulukumba. (2) to identify the problems that the teachers face when implementing the assessment of Curriculum 2013. (3) to find out the solution of the problems. This research is done in several piloting schools in SMP Negeri Bulukumba. They are schools that are pointed by the government to implement the curriculum 2013. In addition, there was also one school which is not a piloting school to continue to implement the Curriculum of 2013. The participant of this research is the English teachers of the first grade. To collect the data the researcher used tape recorder and conducted interview with the teachers and headmaster as additional data. In analysing the data, the researcher used qualitative method. According to Patton (1987) that qualitative method enables the researcher to interview and to interprete the result according to the real-life situation on the site. It allows the use of expressing language and the presence of the participants’ voices in text. This is important because voices brings in other aspects such as moods and tones that may contribute to the quality of data. The findings of this research showed that (1) The respondents had conducted the assessment of curriculum 2013 well in accordance with the assessment implementation guides, eventhough in another side, they haven’t understood it as a whole, lack of material in the text book, and still need more training. (2) There were five numbers of problem were found from the teachers’ perception on the assessment in curriculum 2013, such as: (a) Teachers face problems dealing with the curriculum changing particularly in assessment process, (b) Teachers face problems dealing with the lack of material in the text book, (c) Teachers face problems dealing with the assessment integration of listening to speaking and reading to writing, (d) Teachers face problems dealing with student’s attitude assessment, (e) Teachers face problems dealing with time allocation. (3) The problems solution were suggested by the teachers and headmaster. The points in the suggestion was the teacher should be able to adapt with the curriculum 2013, so would have been easy to implement it well

Abstract

Smartphones are becoming an increasingly common part of our daily lives. Applications used in these systems are extremely varied due to their extraordinary efficiency. With respect to language teaching, the use of these technologies has opened up new doors, changing innovatively the way teachers teach and students learn. Accordingly, this study aimed to find out the impacts of using WhatsApp as a mobile instant messaging application on teaching vocabulary among pre-intermediate EFL learners. To this end, 60 Iranian pre-intermediate EFL learners were selected from a private English Language Institute. Then, they were randomly assigned to two equal groups- an experimental group and a control group. They were pre-tested by a researcher-made vocabulary test.  Then, the treatment was applied to both groups. As the treatment, the control group was taught with traditional activities whereas the experimental group was taught with the use of mobile application (WhatsApp). At the end of the instruction, a researcher-made vocabulary post-test was administered. The results of independent samples t-test and one-way ANCOVA indicated that the experimental group had better performance on the post-test compared to control group revealing the usefulness of the mobile application utilized in this study on learning vocabulary.

Abstract

Where they have no space or place to use their English skills that they have learned and for the desires of students in terms of learning English, students are more likely want to learn English by going outside. And for the learning methods that used by the teacher, students are more likely want to study in pairs or groups with their friends rather than study alone. Besides, students also want the teachers who can become facilitators and guides in the English learning process.

Abstract

Penggunaan internet saat ini sudah tidak asing digunakan dalam berbagai kegiatan, termasuk dalam dunia pendidikan.Internet dinilai dapat memberikan kemudahan dan kemampuan masif dalam penyajian materi serta mampu menawarkan perolehan informasi secara cepat.Internet sebagai sumber belajar merupakan salah satu strategi belajar yang menjadikan kelas tidak terpaku pada kelas konvensional dan dapat dijadikan sebagai inovasi sumber belajar dari sumber belajar yang telah ada. Strategi belajar yang telah diatur sedemikian rupa agar terjadi pembelajaran yang baik dan juga menyenangkan dan menyesuaikan dengan tuntutan jaman agar proses pembelajaran dan pengetahuan terus berkembang. Menghadapi pembelajaran daring yang sangat panjang waktunya, sudah dilaksanakan lebih dari 6 bulan, maka perlu inovasi guru dalam penyelenggaraannya. Kondisi siswa yang belajar dari rumah dengan belajar secara tatap muka pastinya memiliki perbedaan. Dari hasil observasi yang dilakukan, permasalahan yang sering terjadi adalah siswa sering tidak melaksanakan pembelajaran maupun pengerjaan tugas yang diberikan oleh guru. Kemudian untuk proses penilaian pembelajaran juga membutuhkan inovasi agar siswa lebih semangat dalam mengikuti pembelajaran daring. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dapatkah sistem pembelajaran model Self-Organised Learning Environment (SOLE) berbantu aplikasi Edpuzzle membantu guru dalam penyelesaian tugas peserta didik saat proses belajar mengajar secara daring dan bagaimana penerapannya dalam kelas. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode observasi dengan menggunakan kuisioner, metode dokumentasi dan metode wawancara.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ motivation in learning English with the use of storytelling. The research was categorized as descriptive qualitative research. The research was done in Junior High School YAPIS Merauke which focused on eighth grade in 2021. The sample was chosen by using cluster random sampling. The sample focused on VIII. A which consisted of 21 students. The data was taken through observation using an observation checklist and interview. The observation checklist included 20 statements and the interview included 8 questions related to motivation and storytelling. The result of observations and interviews showed that the students' motivation increased in learning English. For treatment step, students were motivated to ask and respond to the questions given. Thus, most students enjoy learning English through videos, students are interested in the teaching materials provided, and some students understand the material better by presenting using videos, concluding the material, and understanding by presenting the material through the zoom application. In addition, by telling stories, most students are more flexible in retelling the contents of the story and they are also motivated by using such a way.

Abstract

This research presented The Effectiveness of Joesin Translation YouTube Channel on Students' Vocabulary Mastery at SMP Negeri 6 Central Buton (An Experimental Study at the VII Grade Students Outcomes at SMP Negeri 6 Central Buton). This research question is: Are there any effects of YouTube on students' vocabulary mastery at the VII grade students' outcomes of SMP Negeri 6 Central Buton? This study aims to determine YouTube on students' vocabulary mastery among the VII grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Central Buton. The design of this study was a pre-experiment using the One Group Pre-test-Post-test. This research variable consists of two variables: the effect of the Joesin Translation Channel as a free variable and the students' vocabulary mastery as a bound variable. The sample was 26 students. This research instrument was vocabulary tests (pretest and posttest). The data collection technique in this study was to provide pretests, treatments, and posttests. Data on students' English learning outcomes were obtained from the results of the Pretest and Posttest in the form of multiple choice. The data showed an average increase in students' math learning outcomes before applying (39.99%) and (73.71%) after applying to Joesin Translation Channel on YouTube media. Furthermore, the results of testing based on hypothesis testing were carried out statistically one-sample t-test  rejected and  accepted. With its acceptance, It can be concluded that Joesin Translation Channel is effective in Students' Vocabulary Mastery in improving students' English learning outcomes.
