Abstract

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING AGAINST STUDENT ARGUMENTATION SKILLS ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIOCULTURAL ISSUESAbstractThe low quality of argumentation made by students is caused by the learning process, which is generally in the form of knowledge transfer only. Students are rarely allowed to investigate an issue and develop the ability to reason, think critically, and submit arguments about environmental issues. Teaching socio-scientific issues can have a positive influence on student motivation, contribute to student learning outcomes, develop critical thinking skills, decision-making skills, argumentation skills, and moral development. The purpose of this study is to improve students' argumentation skills on environmental socio-scientific issues through the application of problem-based learning models. Also, to analyze the effectiveness of models problem-based learning in improving students' argumentation skills on socio-scientific environmental problems. The research was conducted at the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pakuan University, from January 2018 to August 2018. The research period was an even semester of the 2017/2018 school year. The subjects of this study were the Biology Education Study Program students in semester V. Research methods used in this research is Experimentation. The instrument used is through expert judgment. Increasing the argumentation skills of prospective biology teacher candidates in lectures using the model is Problem based Learning still shallow. A very slight increase in N-Gain marks this. All students can submit arguments with the reasons on which they are provided. However, most of the arguments put forward have data/evidence that is invalid and irrelevant and, therefore, unable to corroborate the arguments submitted. Keywords: Argumentation Skills; Problem Based Learning; Socio-scientific IssuesAbstrakRendahnya kualitas argumentasi pada mahasiswa disebabkan oleh proses pembelajaran yang pada umumnya berupa transfer pengetahuan. Mahasiswa jarang diberi kesempatan untuk menyelidiki sebuah isu dan mengembangkan kemampuan bernalar, berpikir kritis, dan mengajukan argumen mengenai isu-isu lingkungan. Pengajaran isu sosiosaintifik dapat menimbulkan pengaruh positif terhadap motivasi peserta didik, berkontribusi terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik, mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis, keterampilan membuat keputusan, keterampilan argumentasi, dan perkembangan moral. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan keterampilan argumentasi mahasiswa mengenai isu sosiosaintifik lingkungan melalui penerapan model pembelajaran problem-based learning dan menganalisis efektivitas model pembelajaran problem-based learning dalam meningkatkan keterampilan argumentasi mahasiswa mengenai isu sosiosaintifik lingkungan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Pakuan, pada bulan Januari 2018 sampai Agustus 2018. Waktu penelitian adalah semester genap tahun ajaran 2017/ 2018. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi semester V. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Eksperimen. Instrumen yang digunakan melalui expert judgment. Peningkatan keterampilan argumentasi mahasiswa calon guru biologi dalam perkuliahan dengan model Problem based Learning masih sangat rendah. Hal ini ditandai dengan kenaikan N-Gain yang sangat sedikit. Semua mahasiswa sudah mampu mengajukan argumen dengan alasan yang menjadi dasar pengajuan. Namun, sebagian besar argumen yang diajukan memiliki data/ bukti yang tidak valid dan tidak relevan sehingga tidak mampu menguatkan argumen yang diajukan.Kata Kunci: Ketrampilan Argumentasi; Problem Based Learning; Isu sosiosaintifik

Abstract

This is a mixed method-explanatory research. This study aims to obtain information about the relationship between the ability to solve environmental problems with students 'argumentation skills about socio-scientific issues and the reasons why the variable ability to solve environmental problems has a very high relationship in improving students' argumentation skills about socio-scientific issues as well as other factors that influence it in addition to the ability to solve environmental issues. This research was conducted in November 2017 until May 2018. The population of this research is Biology Education Student, FKIP, Universitas Pakuan academic year 2017/2018. Sampling technique using purposive sampling and Slovin. The sample of 113 students consist of semesters 2 to semester 6. Based on the result of significance test and linearity test it can be concluded that simple regression analysis with equation Ŷ = 0,898 + 0,049 X is significant and linear. Based on the results of quantitative research obtained correlation coefficient (ry) between the ability to solve environmental problems with student argumentation skills about socio-scientific issues of 0.765. The value of this correlation coefficient shows that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, it means that the ability to solve the environmental problems contributes very highly to students' argumentation skill about socio-scientific issue. Based on the results of interviews on several sources, there are other factors that influence students' argumentation skill about socio-scientific issues among others, confidence, lecturer role, and peer role during discussion.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan persepsi guru terhadap implementasi kurikulum 2013 dalam kegiatan pembelajaran biologi. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 12 orang guru biologi Madrasah Aliyah di Kota Bogor yang ditentukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data tentang persepsi guru dijaring melalui kuesioner dan wawancara. Data yang dikumpulkan selanjutnya dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua partisipan (100%) menyetujui adanya implementasi kurikulum 2013 disekolah serta mengakui tentang kelebihan yang terdapat dalam kurikulum 2013, namun hanya sebagian (50%) dari partisipan yang mampu menerapkannya dalam kegiatan pembelajaran secara konsisten. Hal ini disebabkan karena partisipan mengalami kesulitan dalam merancang RPP dan penilaian berdasarkan kurikulum 2013, serta kesulitan dalam melaksanakan proses penilaian pada aspek kognitif, psikomotor, dan afektif, sehingga partisipan juga mengalami kesulitan dalam menyusun rapor kurikulum 2013. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa sosialiasi dan pelatihan tentang kurikulum 2013 saja belum cukup, tetapi perlu adanya program pendampingan yang konsisten terhadap guru-guru sehingga mereka dapat mengimplementasikan kurikulum 2013 dalam proses belajar mengajar secara konsisten.Kata kunci: Persepsi Guru, Kurikulum 2013, Pembelajaran BiologiABSTRACTThis study aimed to describe teachers' perceptions of the implementation of the curriculum 2013 in biology learning activities. This study used a descriptive method. The research samples consisted of 12 biology teachers of Madrasah Aliyah in Bogor City which was determined by purposive sampling technique. Data on teachers' perceptions were collected by questionnaires and interviews. The data collected then analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results showed that all participants (100%) approved that the implementation of the curriculum 2013 in school and acknowledged the advantages of curriculum 2013, but only some of the participants (50%) were able to apply it in a biology learning activity consistently. This was because participants have difficulty in designing lesson plan and assessment based on the curriculum 2013, as well as difficulties in carrying out the assessment process on cognitive, psychomotor and affective aspects so that participants also have difficulty in preparing students' report. These findings indicated that the socialization and training on the curriculum 2013 were not enough, but there needs to be a consistent mentoring program for teachers so that they can implement the curriculum 2013 in the learning process consistently.Keywords: Teachers' Perception, Curriculum 2013, Biology Learning

Abstract

Student teachers poor argumentation skill is one of the problems that should be solved. This research aims to develop an Argumentation Real-World Inquiry learning model that incorporates argumentation session on environmental, socio-scientific issues at each stage. The research subjects were the biology student teachers taking the Environmental Knowledge course. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) which comprised 3 stages: Phase 1 (Development), Phase II (Pre-Experiment), and Phase III (Implementation and Evaluation). The data on argumentation skill were obtained from an essay that addressed the environmental, sociocultural issue about environmental pollution. The pre-experiment phase was conducted using weak experiment method and one group pretest-posttest design, while in the implementation phase, quasi experiment method and pretest-posttest control group design were used. The results of the pre-experiment stage showed that the learning model was able to increase the student teachers' argumentation skill, indicated by an increase in level 3 argumentation from 16% (pretest) to 68% (posttest) and a decrease in level 2 argumentation from 74% (pretest) to 21 % (posttest). The results of the implementation phase showed that the student teachers' argumentation skill improved, with N-Gain score of 0.307 (medium category). The results of this research indicate that the Argumentation Real-World Inquiry learning model is able to train student teachers to develop their argumentation skill on environmental, socio-scientific issues.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Research and Development (RD) yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model pembelajaran Argumentation Real-World Inquiry. Sebuah model pembelajaran yang dirancang dengan adanya sesi argumentasi disetiap tahapannya untuk melatih mahasiswa berargumen tentang isu-isu sosiosaintifik. Penelitian RD yang dilaksanakan tersusun atas 3 tahapan, yang meliputi Tahap 1 (Perancangan model dan instrumen), Tahap II (Pre-Eksperimen), dan Tahap III (Implementasi Model). Artikel ini mengkaji tentang keterampilan argumentasi mahasiswa yang melaksanakan perkuliahan dengan model Argumentation Real-World Inquiry pada tahap pre-eskperimen. Pre-eksperimen dilaksanakan dengan desain penelitian one group pretest posttest design. Subjek penelitian melibatkan mahasiswa calon guru biologi semester 2 yang mengontrak mata kuliah Pengetahuan Lingkungan. Keterampilan argumentasi mahasiswa dijaring melalui instrumen esai yang mengandung konteks isu sosiosaintifik lingkungan. Hasil penelitian pada tahap uji coba menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran Argumentation Real-World Inquiry memberikan kesempatan kepada mahasiswa untuk mengembangkan keterampilan argumentasinya terhadap isu-isu sosiosaintifik lingkungan, sehingga kualitas argumentasi mahasiswa pun meningkat setelah melaksanakan perkuliahan dengan Argumentation Real-World Inquiry. Dalam pelaksanaan model ini, dosen memiliki penting dalam mengarahkan mahasiswa untuk berargumentasi terhadap isu-isu sosiosaintifik lingkungan. Kebiasaan berargumentasi dalam proses perkuliahan dapat dibangun melalui model pembelajaran yang menekankan mahasiswanya untuk menanggapi isu, mengajukan argumen, serta mencari bukti-bukti pendukung yang valid dan relevan untuk mendukung argumennya.

Abstract

The human skeletal system is a complex material to be studied by students, especially for social studies class students who take Biology specialization subjects. This study aims to train students' creativity and improve students' mastery of concepts in the joint subtopic of skeletal system material through a STEM approach with a Project Based Learning model based on lesson study. The research method was a weak experiment with a one-shot case study design. The instruments used in this study include multiple choice test instruments and observation sheets. The results showed that students' creativity was in the good category with mastery of concepts that had passed the minimum KKM limit. This shows that STEM learning with project-based learning helps students to be able to understand the concept of joints through the implemented projects. The planning and implementation of lesson study-based learning also stimulates collaboration between teachers in the field of study to be able to design innovative learning.

Abstract

STEM learning is a new innovation in 21st century education. The ability to solve problems is important for students to learn to be able to solve environmental problems. The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of STEM on the ability to solve problems on the topic of environmental change. The method used in this research is Quasi Experiment. The sample used in this study was students at high school (SMAN) 4 Cibinong, Bogor Regency. The results of this study indicate that the instrument is valid and reliable. The results of the hypothesis test show that t-count > t-table which can be interpreted that the score there is an effect of lesson study-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning on students' problem-solving abilities on Environmental Change topic. Environmental Education plays an important role in shaping students' problem-solving skills. STEM-based learning in this case must prioritize solving environmental problems that are integrated with environmental education. The conclusion from this study is that STEM learning has an impact on students' problem-solving abilities

Abstract

The emergence of the 4.0 industrial revolution requires university graduates to have 21st-century thinking skills that can support them to compete globally. However, the low 21st-century thinking skills of prospective teachers in the group of ways of thinking (critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making) make the learning process should be able to train and develop these thinking skills. One way to train prospective teachers' 21st-century thinking skills is through the textbooks used in lectures. This study aims to develop textbooks based on socioscientific issues on the topic of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study used the RD research method with ADDIE design which is composed of 5 stages: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. textbooks were applied at the implementation stage by involving second-semester prospective teachers who contract Environmental Knowledge courses. The instruments used in this study included textbook validation sheets and essay tests. The validation results were analyzed using descriptive analysis, while the essay test results were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the study showed that the socioscientific issues-based textbooks on the SDGs topic received a very good expert assessment and had met the standards of the appropriateness of the content, language, graphics, presentation, and socioscientific issues. Prospective teachers' 21st-century thinking skills in the group of the way of thinking  also improved significantly after using socioscientific issues-based textbooks. These indicated that the textbooks which have been developed were effective in practicing the 21st-century thinking skills of prospective teachers.

Abstract

Kegiatan dosen goes to school bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat peserta didik khususnya di SMA Negeri 1 Cisarua untuk melanjutkan ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi guna mewujudkan pendidikan yang berkualitas untuk mencapai SDG’s dibidang pendidikan. Hal ini dilatarbelakangi bahwa tingkat presentase untuk melanjutkan studi ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi masih sangat rendah ini dikarenakan bukan hanya faktor ekonomi namun motivasi dari siswa yang rendah selain itu pola pikir dari orang tua yang menganggap bahwa jenjang pendidikan tertinggi sampai pada tingkat sekolah menengah atas (SMA). Metode pelaksanaan dalam pengabdian ini diawali dengan observasi dan wawancara dengan pihak sekolah, selanjutnya disepakati pelaksanaan dosen goes to school untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang dihadapi di SMAN 1 Cisarua. Dalam pelaksanaan pengabdian ini guru biologi SMAN 1 Cisarua selaku mitra memberikan kesempatan kepada para dosen untuk mengajar pada jam pelajaran di kelas XII dengan materi yang sudah ditentukan oleh pihak sekolah dan guru. Selesai proses pembelajaran dosen menjelaskan atau memperkenalkan bagaimana proses perkuliahan dan memberikan motivasi kepada siswa agar meningkatkan minat melanjutkan ke perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

This study aims to apply STEM-based teaching materials in the form of flipbooks to improve students' creative thinking skills. The method used in this study is the weak experiment method with a one group pretest posttest design. The research instrument used in the form of essay test questions and questionnaire sheets. Data analysis techniques include the assessment of creative thinking skills as measured using the N-Gain formula. The results of data analysis showed that students' creative thinking skills have increased with an N-Gain achievement of 0.42 (medium category). This indicates that STEM-based teaching materials in the form of flipbooks can improve students' creative thinking skills
