Abstract

Indonesia is a country with abundant natural wealth. Almost all kinds of plants can grow in this country. Most have been used since ancient times to treat various diseases. One of the efficacious plants used as medicine is the Dewandaru fruit (Eugenia uniflora L.). This study aims to identify the presence of flavonoid compounds in the Dewandaru fruit (Eugenia uniflora L.) and test the in vitro activity of the ethanol extract of the Dewandaru fruit. Dewandaru fruit extract (Eugenia uniflora L.) was prepared using the maceration extraction method with 96% ethanol solvent. The extraction process was carried out three times. The extract obtained was concentrated in a rotary evaporator at 40-45 °C and then dried in an oven at 40°C. The extracts obtained were identified by means of ultraviolet visible spectrophotometry thin-layer chromatography. obtained showed a positive reaction in the pre-test of flavonoids seen from the separation of red and from the separation of orange stains on thin-layer chromatography. The results of the in vitro test for the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of Dewandaru fruit showed an IC50 activity of 53.44 ppm.

Abstract

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs due to high levels of sugar in the blood, this can occur when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin (a hormone that regulates blood sugar or glucose), or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Management of DM patients can be carried out with non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapies. The method used in the journal review was to search for the keyword "diabetes mellitus herbal medicine" for clinical studies on plant-derived products for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Search terms included “phytotherapy”, “phytochemicals”, “medicinal plant products”, “herbal medicine”, and “diabetes mellitus”. Involving plant-derived compounds and pigmentation as outcome measures were included. In this review article, 30 journals were collected from which the objectives and results of the research in the journal were obtained. The goal is as an alternative management treatment to control blood sugar levels. For some of the compounds we discuss, among others: Flavonoids, Allicin, Lectins, Alkaloids, Andrographolid, Curcumin, Cinnamaldehyde, peptides, Phenolics, Tannins.

Abstract

Bones are the body's framework that causes the body to stand upright, where the muscles are attached to allow the passage of blood vessels, where the bone marrow and nerves protect soft tissues. Traditional medicine is an effort to treat or treat other ways outside of medical science or nursing science. Indonesia is one of the countries that have the potential to develop medicinal plant cultivation and use it as an alternative treatment. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of herbal medicine and traditional therapy for bone and joint diseases. This study uses the method of literature study. The results showed that traditional herbal therapy for ball compresses, lemongrass warm compresses, cinnamon warm compresses, lavender aromatherapy warm water flower compresses, bangle rhizome compresses, and ginger warm compresses can be used for bone and joint diseases. Where there are compounds in herbal plants that have effectiveness as traditional medicine and therapy for bone and joint diseases, namely flavonoids, quercetin, curcumin, 6-gingerol and shogaol, alkaloids, steroids, and saponins.

Abstract

Liver damage can occur due to infection, viruses, drug use, and the environment. Paracetamol is a drug that has analgesic and antipyretic effects, but on the other hand the use of paracetamol in excessive doses (15/day) can cause liver damage. This can occur because the process of paracetamol metabolism in the liver forms a reactive metabolite known as N-acetyl-pbenzoquinonemine (NAPQI). The hepatoprotective mechanism can be seen from the ability of Ichnocarpus frutescens to ward off free radicals formed from the process of lipid oxidation due to the reactive metabolite of paracetamol, namely NAPQI. The method used is a literature review which is a systematic, explicit and reproducible method for carrying out identification, evaluation and synthesis of research works and ideas that have been produced by researchers and practitioners. The data base used is National and International Journal Websites such as Google Scholar.

Abstract

Public knowledge about the use of plants as medicine is mostly limited to hereditary knowledge as a form of interaction between the community and the environment, especially plants. Currently medicinal plants or herbal plants have been widely used in the medical or health fields. Today's society prefers to use products that come from nature for safety reasons. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of the use of traditional medicine as an alternative treatment in the community of Bindu Tourism Village. The research method used is a descriptive survey method with a cross-sectional design where the research object is only observed once without any pre-test and post-test with data collection techniques using questionnaires distributed via online in Bindu Tourism Village. The data obtained from the research results were then processed by calculating the percentage of respondent answers. The results of the questionnaire data analysis obtained from 104 respondents showed that the people who had a good level of knowledge were 51 people (49%), 46 people (44%), and the level of knowledge in the poor category were 7 people (7%). The average value of knowledge from 104 respondents is 77% which is included in the range (76%-100%), so the level of knowledge of respondents is good.
