Abstract

Synthesis of 3,4-methylendioxy isoamyl cinnamic as the sunscreen compound from safrole isolation of cullilawang oil had been concluded. The reactions begin from isolation safrol with reduction pressure destilation fractination yield 74.71% safrol. The isomerization of safrole to isosafrole using KOH without solvent at temperature 130 0C for 5 hours yield 86.50% isosafrole. The oxidation of isosafrole using KMnO4 with polysorbate (Tween 80) catalyst, yield 72.33% pyperonal crystal. The crystal of pyperonal was synthesis to become sunscreen compound of 3,4-methylendioxy isoamyl cinnamic through Claissen condensation reaction using isoamylacetate and sodium metal, yield 56.87% with 88.16% purity. The purity was tested by GC and the elucidation of those structure was analyzed by FTIR, 1H-NMR abd MS. The sunscreen efectivity of 3,4-methylendioxy isoamyl cinnamic was exam using UV-Vis spectrofotometer according to Petro method showed that the compound have a protection against UV-A light with the SPF value = 5.31

Abstract

The synthesis of 1-phenyl-4-(3’, 4’-dimethoxy phenyl)-1-buten-3-one from eugenol has been done through four reaction steps. The metilation of eugenol with dimethyl sulphate yields 81.81% of methyl eugenol. Oxymercuration-demercuration of methyl eugenol with mercury acetate yields 67.27% of methyl eugenyl alcohol. Oxidation of methyl eugenyl alcohol with pyridinium chloro chromate (PCC) yields 45.31% of methyl eugenyl ketone. Aldol condensation reaction of methyl eugenyl ketone with benzaldehide catalyzed by potasium hydroxyde yields 7.38% of 1-phenyl4-(3’,4’-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-buten-3-one. The purity of compounds was tested by GC and LC. The Elucidation of structure was analyzed by FTIR, GC-MS, LC-ESI-MS, and H-NMR.

Abstract

Gastropods are the sources of protein for coastal communities in the Maluku islands. We conducted analysis quantitative and qualitative of protein in Nerita undata meat from Hasa Cape in Saparua Island. The percentage of protein was analyzed by the Kjeldahl method. Qualitative analysis began with breaking peptide bonds in protein to amino acid components by sulphuric acid and barium hydroxide hydrolyzed. We identified amino acid compounds by using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) in butanol-acetic acid-water (8:1:1, v/v) as eluent. The result showed that N. undata meat contains 11.15% of protein and twelve amino acid compounds. There are seven essential amino acids in N. undata meat from supralittoral rocks and mezolittoral zone of Hasa cape is a source of quality protein. Thus, this species can be considered as a source of high-quality protein.
