Abstract

Estuary of Karang Mumus River is Mahakam River that used for drinking water substance in around Samarinda Province East Kalimantan. There are communities live along floodplain area and use water in the river for daily activities as the bath, washing, and privy. Karang Mumus River through the urban area with complicated activities. Domestic waste content in Karang Mumus River come from the communities activities. It content nutrition as Phosphate and Nitrate reason booming algae in the tributary. It happens to impact the water pollution since less Dissolved Oxygen (DO). Purpose this research is analysis distribution of Phosphate and Nitrate in Karang Mumus River. The method used surveys as observation, water sampling, and laboratory analysis. Measurement spot is 17 from upstream to downstream. The result Nitrate is excellent but Phospat high on some spot measurement. Especially it happens in part of urban, market and several communities. The highest Nitrate is 2.13 mg/L standard 10 mg/L and highest Phosphate is 0.86 mg/L standard 0.2 mg/L.

Abstract

Water is an environmental component that has an important role in human life. Water is needed by humans in daily activities. Increasing population and environmental changes have an impact on water quality, one of which is river water. Polluted river water is very dangerous for public health. The purpose of this research is to determine the status of river water quality and also the health impact of the Tanah Datar and Benanga Reservoir segments related to the use of river water. The method to identify the health impact is an interview with a questionnaire. Determination of quality status using the pollution index method with parameters TSS, pH, BOD, COD, DO, nitrate, phosphate and fecal coli. The study showed that in the Flatland segment, the COD and pH parameters did not meet, while in the Benanga fecal coli reservoir segment, the parameters did not meet the quality standards. The river water pollution index for the Tanah Datar segment is 0.8818 and the Benanga Reservoir segment is 2.5442. The study showed that there were 6 respondents from Tanah Datar and 9 respondents from Benanga Reservoir who experienced skin irritation. The results showed that the water quality status of the Tanah Datar segment was in good condition, while the river water of the Benanga Reservoir segment was in a light polluted condition. High COD parameters in Tanah Datar caused skin irritation to respondents, high fecal coli in Benanga Reservoir did not cause skin irritation to respondents.

Abstract

The river found in Samarinda City is the Karang Mumus River. This river is a tributary of the Mahakam River which divides Samarinda City in East Kalimantan. The polluting source of the Karang Mumus River comes from domestic activities such as settlements, markets, shopping centers, and hotels. The purpose of this study is to determine the water quality of the Karang Mumus river in terms of predetermined parameters, namely nitrites, nitrates and phosphates in waters. This type of research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach to see the concentration of nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate parameters in the water of the Karang Mumus River from Upstream to Downstream. The results showed that the highest nitrite value based on eight segments was in segment 3 is 0.026 mg/L. The lowest value of nitrite was in segment 8 with a concentration of 0.0095 mg/L. Based on PerDa KalTim No. 02 of 2011 class II nitrite value in all segments is still meet the quality standard of 0.06 mg/L. The highest concentration of nitrate is upstream, in segment 2 with a concentration of 0.155 mg/L. Lowest nitrate concentration is in the middle of segment 5, which is 0.069 mg/L. Based on PerDa KalTim No. 02 of 2011 class II nitrate value in all segments is still meet the quality standard of 10 mg/L. The lowest phosphate concentration in the middle of segment 5, is 0.031 mg/L. The highest phosphate concentration is upstream of segment 1, which is 0.098 mg/L.  Based on PerDa KalTim No. 02 of 2011 class II, the phosphate value in all segments is still meet the quality standard of 0.2 mg/L.
