Abstract

Abstract: The study presented of how students are taught by using guided writing. It showed the implementation of the scientific approach in teaching and learning process particularly in teaching writing. This research applies a CAR (classroom action research) to the tenth grade students of Computer and Networking Program of SMKN 1 Bengkayang in Academic Year 2014/2015.  The Classroom Action Research was conducted in three cycles. Each cycles consisted of four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation checklist, questionnaires, and photograph or documents of students writing product. The result of the research shows that guided writing could improve the students? writing skill. Through guided writing, the students showed great interest and actively involved in the teaching and learning process. The students were able to construct sentences correctly. In this case, the sentences they constructed were based on the researcher?s explanation and examples. They also used more vocabularies in their writing. The study showed that there was an improvement on the students? writing skill. The researcher suggests that English teacher is better to implement scientific approach helped by guided writing in their class in order to help the students improve their writing skill. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas pada kelas X Jurusan Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan SMK Negeri 1 Bengkayang tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam tiga siklus. Masing-masing siklus nya terdiri dari empat langkah yaitu: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Pada pengumpulan data kualitatif, peneliti menggunakan data penilaian observasi, dokumentasi dan dokumen-dokumen seperti hasil menulis siswa. Pada pengumpulan data kuantitatif, peneliti memberikan soal tes di setiap akhir masing-masing siklus. Dari hasil tersebut, maka penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa teknik Guided Writing dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. Dengan menggunakan teknik ini pula, siswa dapat berperan aktif dalam proses belajar mengajar di kelas. Dalam hal ini, siswa dapat menulis kalimat dengan benar berdasarkan penjelasan dan contoh-contoh yang diberikan peneliti. Kata kunci: Kurikulum 2013, Pendekatan Saintifik, Guided Writing

Abstract

  Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas Paragraph Writing pada Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Tanjungpura tahun ajaran 2014/ 2015 yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah benar atau tidak kegunaan video pantomim dalam meningkatkan pencapaian siswa dalam menulis paragraf naratif dan mengetahui berapa besar keefektifan kegunaannya. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah experimental semu non-equivalent control group design. Tehnik samplingnya adalah cluster dan sample penelitiannya adalah kelas A sebagai kelas ekperimental dan kelas C sebagai kelas control. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan, t-test lebih besar dari t-table dan hal tersebut mendukung hipotesis alternative untuk diterima. Sedangkan efek dari perlakuan yang diberikan menunjukan angka 0.63 dan itu menandakan bahwa efek yang diberikan tergolong sedang. Kesimpulannya adalah penggunaan video pantomim efektif dan memberikan pengaruh yang sedang dalam pencapaian kemampuan menulis paragraf naratif pada siswa. Kata Kunci: Video Pantomim, Menulis, Paragraf Naratif   Abstract: This research was conducted to Paragraph Writing class of English Education Study Program, Tanjungpura University Pontianak in Academic Year 2014/ 2015. The purposes of this research are to find out whether or not the use of pantomime video can increase students? narrative paragraph writing achievement and to find out how well is the effect of the use of pantomime video in increasing students? narrative paragraph writing achievement. A Quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group design was used by the writer as the research method. Cluster sampling is the technique sampling and the samples of this research were class A as the experimental group and class C as the control group. The computation of t-test is higher than t-table, therefore the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The effect size of the treatment was 0.63 and it was qualified as moderate effect. The results of this research was the use of pantomime video can increase students? narrative paragraph writing achievement with moderate effect. Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to find out how the use of Make a Match Technique improved vocabulary of tenth-grade students of Islamic Boarding School of Mathla’ul Anwar Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. This research used Classroom Action Research with two cycles. The subjects of this research were 36 students of X IPS 2. The result showed that the use of Make a Match Technique improved the students’ vocabulary. In the teaching learning process, the students were more enthusiastic and paid more attention to the learning activity. Furthermore, from the administered assessment, it showed that the students expand their vocabularies and can understand the meaning when doing written test in the class. As the result, from the students’ individual score, it improved in each cycle. Therefore, the researcher recommends teachers to use Make a Match as a vocabulary teaching technique as to help students improve their vocabulary. Keywords: Vocabulary, Make a Match Technique

Abstract

Abstract: This study was conducted on three objectives. They include exploring the students’ needs for English teaching materials for accounting, designing and writing needs-based materials, and evaluating the applicability of developed model of materials. This research was a developmental research. The subjects of this research were English teacher, Accounting teacher, and 28 students of Year-11 of Accounting department of SMK Filadelfia Pemangkat. Various  records of needs assessment indicated that there was a high demand for materials of English for accounting. Moreover, a gap was found between the content of KTSP English syllabus with the students’ needs. The findings on materials writing and implementation revealed that the materials’ applicability is proven “excellent” according to the users’ perspectives. The materials were considered helpful and relevant with the students’ needs as it provided specific English materials and meaningful activities which connected the English classroom learning with the real world use of English for Accounting. Keywords: Developing materials, task-based materials, English for accounting Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mencapai 3 tujuan, yaitu untuk mengetahui kebutuhan siswa terhadap materi pengajaran bahasa Inggris akuntansi, untuk merancang dan menulis materi berdasarkan kebutuhan tersebut, dan untuk mengevaluasi daya terap materi pengajaran bahasa Inggris akuntansi yang telah dikembangkan. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah penelitian pengembangan dengan subyek penelitian yang terdiri dari seorang guru bahasa Inggris, seorang guru akuntansi, dan 28 siswa kelas 11 jurusan akuntansi di SMK Filadelfia Pemangkat. Sejumlah data analisis kebutuhan yang terkumpul mengindikasikan bahwa terdapat kebutuhan yang tinggi terhadap materi pengajaran bahasa Inggris akuntansi. Selain itu, terdapat kesenjangan antara isi silabus KTSP bahasa Inggris dengan  kebutuhan siswa sebenarnya. Berdasarkan perspektif penggunanya, materi yang telah dikembangkan dan diujicoba dinilai “sangat baik”. Materi tersebut dianggap membantu dan sesuai  dengan kebutuhan siswa karena menyediakan materi bahasa Inggris yang khusus dan aktifitas yang bermakna yang menghubungkan pembelajaran bahsa Inggris di kelas dengan kegunaan bahasa Inggris untuk akuntansi di dunia nyata. Abstract

AbstractThe main objective of this research is to find out whether the test items made by the teachers of SMPN 14 Pontianak were already valid and reliable especially for pre-national examination test. This test was analyzed by case study research with documentary study. The  test  items  used  as  the  sample  was  English  test in pre-national examination test designed by teachers of SMPN 14 Pontianak.  The study analyzed pre-national examination test which consist of 50 test items with a total participant of 344 students. The findings were divided into three parts: the appropriateness of test items with the principle of test construction, the validity and the reliability. For the appropriateness of the test items with the principle, the test did not fulfill the principle because the test items were constructed without test indicator. In content validity, the test items also did not show the specific learning purpose of the material being tested. However, the test score reliability calculated using by K-R20 was 0.798, which means the test was categorized as reliable and good to use as diagnostic test. Finally, the researcher recommended the teachers to revise the test items especially errors on item difficulty, item discrimination and distractor analysis.Keywords:Pre-National Examination Test, Test Item Analysis, Validity, Reliability, Junior High School, Pontianak Regency

Abstract

  Abstract The purpose of this research was to improve students’ writing descriptive texts  of the eighth grade at SMPN 3 Anjongan in Mempawah Regency. The researcher employed Jane Willis’ Task – Based Language Teaching (TBLT) framework which consisted of (1) Pre-task, (2) Task cylce and (3) Language focus. Moreover, the creative task which involved the authentic media that was tourist brochure energized the students enthusiastic in teaching learning process.The study results were derived from quantitative and qualitative data yielded from the action research designed. The result shown that the application of TBLT framework to teach writing descriptive through creative task (tourist brochure) could successfully improve students’ ability in writing. The findings also revealed that tourist brochure’s effective implementation required proper time management as well as sufficient teacher’s guidance during the writing process.   Keywords: Task – Based  Language Teaching, Writing Descriptive Text, Creative Task. Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif pada peserta didik kelas delapan di SMPN 3 Anjongan di Kabupaten Mempawah. Peneliti melaksanakan kerangka Pembelajaran Bahasa Berbasis Tugas (TBLT) dari Jane Willis yang terdiri dari (1) Pre-task, (2) Siklus Task  and (3) Fokus Kebahasaan. Terlebih lagi, Tugas yang Kreatif melibatkan media otentitk berupa brosur wisata memicu antusiasme para peserta didik dalam proses pembelajaran. Hasil peneletian terdiri dari data kuantitatif dan data kualitatif pada penelitian tindakan kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi kerangka TBLT pada pengajaran menulis deskriptif melalui Kreatif Task (brosur wisata) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis para peserta didik. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa implementasi brosur wisata efektif bila penggunaaan pengaturan waktu yang baik begitu pula bimbingan dari guru selama proses kegiatan menulis berlangsung. Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to improvingthe students? speaking of class XI Mecahnical Engineering of SMK SMTI Pontianak in Academic Year 2018/2019by implementing role play technique. It was carried out based on the procedure that have been planned before.The methodof the research was the classroom action research. It was conducted in two cycles with each cycle 2 meetings.The researcher used role playto teach speaking. The subject of this research were 35 students of Mechanical Engineering student in  SMK SMTI  Pontianak in Academic Year 2018/2019. The tool of data were collected by observing the teaching and learning process as follows field notes, observation checklist, and video recording. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were collected through assessing the students? speaking performance as the students? speaking scores. The procedure of this research consisted of planning, observing, acting, and reflecting.Most of the students were not confident to speak English because they were shy and afraid of taking a part in conversation. Most of them spoke with pauses. The technique of data collecting was observation. Abstract

  Abstract: The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not the schema activation strategy increase students? writing skill of recount text on the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak. The form of this research was a Pre-Experimental design by using single group pre-test and post-test design. The population of the research is the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak consisted of 312 students. From the population, the sample class X MIA 4 is taken randomly with 39 students. The result of t-test obtains 6.03 that is bigger than t-table 1.6860. If the obtained t result is bigger (or equal to) the critical t-value, then the null hypothesis is rejected. It means that increasing the students? skill in writing recount text through the use of schema activation indicates a significance different result between the pre-test and post-test. The use of schema activation strategy for teaching writing recount text succeeded in increasing students? writing text. The students? writing score was improved and students can write recount text well and enjoyed in learning English writing. Bentuk dari penelitian ini adalah desain Pre-Eksperimen atau desain grup tunggal pre-test dan post-test. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak yang terdiri dari 312 siswa. Dari populasi ini, kelas X MIA 4 diambil secara acak sebagai sample yang berjumlah 39 siswa. Abstract

Abstrac: This research concerns on item analysis, including level of difficulty, discriminating power, and distractor analysis of the English Summative Test Items at the Eighth Grade Junior High School in Pontianak in Academic Year 2014/2015. The purpose is to provide current information about the quality of the English summative test and to compare the quality of the test items at X, Y and Z Junior High School. Some qualitative evidence and quantitative data from the test scores are collected, analysed, and interpreted. For the sample of participants as examinees, 3 junior high schools are selected through stratified purposive sampling based on the similar school accreditation ranks. The item analysis findings show 98% test items at X Junior High School, 94% test items at Y Junior High School, and 100% test items at Z Junior High School that are in need of improvement. The test developers need to consider revising items with very low or very high item difficulty and very low discrimination ability. Furthermore, an action needs to be taken to revise distractors that are not plausible.   Key word: item analysis, summative test, quality of test Abstrak: Penelitian ini mengacu pada analisis soal ulangan umum yang meliputi tingkat kesukaran, daya pembedaan, dan analisis pengecoh kelas 8 SMP di Pontianak tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyajikan informasi tentang kualitas soal dan perbandingan kualitas soal di SMP X, Y, and Z. Beberapa data kualitatif dan kuantitatif, seperti nilai telah terkumpul, dianalisis, dan diinterpretasikan. Sampel peserta tes dipilih dari 3 sekolah berdasarkan tingkat akreditasi yang sama. Penemuan dari analisis soal ini menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 98% soal di SMP X, 94% soal di SMP Y, dan 100% soal di SMP X memerlukan peningkatan kualitas. Pembuat soal harus mengubah soal yang terbukti kurang berkualitas. Terakhir, soal-soal yang diubah harus segera ditindak lanjuti.   Kata kunci: analisis soal, soal ulangan umum, kualitas soal

Abstract

 Abstract This research aimed at improving students? ability in writing descriptive text through mind mapping collaborative writing technique. The data were taken from students of X B in SMA Nusantara Indah Sintang in the Academic Year 2016-2017. The finding showed that this technique could make the students enjoyed the writing activity and generated the students? motivation to get involved in the writing process. The students were happy worked collaboratively with other student; moreover, the students could share their difficulties among the activity. Mind mapping collaborative writing could help the students to improve their writing descriptive texts and motivate the students to be active in the writing activity. Mind mapping collaborative writing is suggested to use in teaching writing. Keywords: Teaching Writing, Mind Mapping Collaborative Writing, Writing Descriptive Texts. Abstrak, Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa/siswi dalam menulis teks deskriptif melalui tehnik ?mind mapping collaborative writing? pada siswa/siswi SMA Nusantara Indah Sintang, kelas XB tahun pelajaran 2016/2017. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa tehnik ini dapat membuat siswa merasa nyaman dan memicu motivasi mereka dalam kegiatan menulis. Para siswa senang bekerja sama denga siswa lainnya, terlebih mereka dapat saling berbagi kesulitan selama kegiatan menulis. Tehnik ?mind mapping collaborative writing? dapat membantu siswa meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif dan dapat memotivasi siswa untuk berperan aktif dalam kegiatan menulis.
