Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: RSGM Unimus is a dental and oral hospital that has been operating since 2019. Building a culture of patient safety in the hospital is the responsibility of all staff in the hospital to patients. Patient safety is a system by which the hospital makes patient care safer. Efforts to minimize the occurrence of patient safety incidents, hospital management needs to build a patient safety culture to improve the quality and service of patients in the hospital. Hospital patient safety can be measured using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture issued by AHRQ (Agency for Health Research and Quality Care). In this case, patient safety culture is measured from the perspective of medical personnel and staff in the hospital. Objective: Describe patient safety at RSGM Unimus based on AHRQ according to dentists, young dentists and medical staff. Method: This type of descriptive quantitative research with a cross sectional research design, determining the sample using the Proportionate Startified Random Sampling technique using the Slovin formula obtained 65 respondents. Result: 6 Dimensions of patient safety according to AHRQ get a positive response including: Dimension 1 Internal cooperation (88.2%), Dimension 2 Manager / supervisor (90.76%), Dimension 3 communication (90%), Dimension 4 reports of errors in action (82.56%), Dimension 5 patient safety rate (92.30%), Dimension 6 overall hospital management (87.41%). The majority of positive responses (> 75%) in human resources at RSGM Unimus support patient safety culture. Conclusion: The culture of patient safety at RSGM Unimus can be said to be very good, meaning that RSGM Unimus supports the culture of patient safety and has carried out patient safety very well. Keywords: Patient Safety, AHRQ (Agency for Health Research and Quality Care)

Abstract

Tea is the most popular beverage product that is consumed by many people in Indonesia and the world community because tea has a distinctive taste and aroma. Tea contains a rich source of polyphenols (catechins) which are part of flavonoids that can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus and Lactobacillus which are bacteria that cause dental plaque formation. Purpose, to analyze the effectiveness of white tea (camellia sinensis L.) gargling on the dental plaque index. Method, quasi experiment with pre and posttest control group design. This research was conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Muhammadiyah Semarang with a total of 36 samples taken by random sampling technique. The treatment group (white tea) and the control group (0.2% chlorhexidine) were calculated using the PHP-M plaque index. The value of plaque index before gargling in white tea steeping had an average value of 1.77 ± 0.60 and the value of the plaque index after gargling in steeping white tea had an average value of 1.18 ± 0.48. The results of the statistical analysis dependent test t test showed p = 0,000 (p<0.005) so that there were significant differences between the plaque indices in the white tea group before and after treatment. The results of the independent statistical t test showed that the chlorhexidiene control group was 0.2% p = 0.024 (p<0.005) and white tea p = 0.003 (p<0.005). It was concluded that white tea was more effective than chlorhexidine 0.2%. Conclusion, Gargling of white tea steeping is effective in decreasing dental plaque index.

Abstract

The Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) as a part of health care facilities, especially teeth and mouth, do not rule out unexpected events / near-injury events that have an impact on patient safety. The safety incidents at RSGM are only reported when an incident occurs. Solving this problem requires changing the culture of health care from one in which errors are viewed as the result of individual failure to one in which errors are viewed as opportunities to improve from one in which errors are viewed as the system. This study aims to determine the culture of patient safety in dental and oral health services at RSGM Unimus. This type of research is descriptive research with mixed methods research approaches, namely quantitative and qualitative. The study involved a sample of 65 respondents, where the study was conducted from March to April 2020. Quantitative data collection techniques used AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality instrument questionnaire) and qualitative through interviews. The results of the study show that in all dimensions of the AHRQ questionnaire, the highest positive response results are in the very good/strong category, which means that the level of patient safety at RSGM Unimus is already supportive. This study shows that the dissemination of patient safety has not been routinely carried out, errors in communication often occur, reporting only when unexpected incidents occur, and it is necessary to increase feedback between medical personnel and evaluation of intentional or accidental errors that is related to patient safety still needs to be improved. Teknik pengumpulan data kuantitatif menggunakan instrumen AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality instrument kuesioner) dan kualitatif melalui wawancara.

Abstract

Infections present while undergoing treatment or obtained from health services are called Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). The impact of this incident is the length of treatment and costs provided, increased morbidity, and can result in death. One of the many occupations in the world with the highest risk of infection transmission is health workers working in dentistry since most of human microbial pathogens originate from oral secretions. In contrast, these health workers require their proximity to the patient’s oropharynx. The increase in HAIs occurs due to the lack of application of infection control, so we need to assess this implementation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2016, issued standardized Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) guidelines to assess the risk of infection in dental and oral health services. This research aims to describe ICRA in the dentist practice at RSGM Unimus. The type of research used was observational, with quantitative analysis methods and a descriptive research design. The results showed that overall, infection control at RSGM Unimus had a percentage of 82%, which was included in the low infection risk category. RSGM Unimus was good at implementing infection control programs.
