Abstract

Background: Many breastfeeding mothers find that their milk production decreases or even stops when they return to work due to reduced breastfeeding hormones. Massage can stimulate the oxytocin hormone, and to replace the manual massage, a digital massager of oxytocin (DMO) is developed.Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of the DMO on the milk production of the breastfeeding working mothers. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The samples were 93 breastfeeding working mothers in the community with a baby below 6 months. The samples were assigned into the intervention group (n=46) and the control group (n=47). An intervention of using the DMO was given to the mothers in the intervention group by applying the electrodes on the first intercostae of BL-17 and Bl-18 acupoints for 20 minutes in 3 consecutive days. Meanwhile, a standard treatment was given to the control group. Breast milk expression was carried out before and after the use of DMO. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney and the Wilcoxon tests. Results: The results showed that there were differences in the volume of the expressed breast milk before and after the use of the DMO (p=0.00). The mothers in the intervention group increased their milk production on an average of 23 ml when other variables affecting the breastfeeding were controlled. Conclusion: The DMO stimulated and increased the milk production of working mothers. It can also be an alternative to the complementary therapy, especially for the nursing care management of breastfeeding mothers.

Abstract

One of many possible ways of preventing Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is by removing tooth debris. Fluoride tooth paste usage by children under 3 years old must follow recommended quantity, because of its possibility of being ingested which then might cause fluorosis. Lysozyme as an active element in a toothpaste is able to mediate bacterial aggregation and inhibit bacterial adhesion and also activate bacterial autolysin by destructing bacterial cell wall. This study aimed to compared Streptococcus mutans antimicrobial activity of non-fluoride lysozyme toothpaste of various concentration such as 0.025, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 %. This was an experimental research with post test only design. The tested tooth paste was lysozyme-contained with 0.025, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2% concentrations. Children tooth paste containing fluoride, enzyme tooth paste and 0.2% chlorhexidine became the positive control. Test of S. mutans antibacterial activity used 3 methods: disc diffusion, well, and microtiter plate method. Analytical test used Anova one way with Bonferoni post hoc and p<0.05 significant level. The results showed that all concentrations of lysozyme tooth paste had inhibitory effect on the growth of S. mutans (p<0.05). The highest mean of S. mutans antibacterial activity in lysozyme tooth paste were on 0.1 and 0.2% concentrations. Conclusion stated that 0.1% concentration of lysozyme tooth paste can be used as an alternative tooth paste for children under 3 years old

Abstract

Nurses belong to a profession that carries a high risk of burnout. This condition will have an impact on the performance and quality of nursing services. Efforts should be made to minimize burnout for nurses. Management of the nurses' work environment is one that should be done by the nurse manager. This study aimed to identify the effect of the implementation of a caring work environment by the head of the care unit on nurse burnout. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre- and post-test with control group approach. Respondent of this study was 170 nurses who were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group consisted of nurses within the Caring Work Environment Model as applied by the head of the units. The control group included nurses working in the environment commonly applied in accordance with hospital policies in the inpatient unit. Burnout measurements on nurses applied preand post- intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Mann Whitneytest. This research showed a decrease in emotional fatigue and depersonalization scores, and an increase in nurse personal accomplishment, (p<0.001) after the implementation of the nurse's caring work environment model by the head of care unit in the intervention group. Within the control group, only personal accomplishment showed increased scores, (p=0.034). Reduction in burnout symptoms in nurses can be facilitated through the implementation of a caring work environment by the head of the care unit.

Abstract

To analyze the level of sIgA and Histatin-5 expression in Early Childhood Caries (ECC) and caries-free children. Saliva was collected from 31 subjects of ECC and 29 caries-free (ages 9-32 months). The level expression of sIgA and Histatin 5 was analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The distribution and frequency of subjects consist of boys 47% and girls 53% with the average of ages 1-12 month 21% and 13-24 month 79%.sIgA and Histatin 5 expressions differ from the month periods tested (1, 3, and 9 months) but do not show any significant difference from each examination period (1 with three months; p0.05: 0.116), (1 with nine months; p 0.05: 0.766), and (3 to 9 months; p0.05: 0.398). The expression of sIgA and Histatin 5 of boys and girls were not significant (p0.05:0.550) and weak correlation (r = 0.079).The level expression of sIgA in the Caries-free higher than ECC (p0.05). Whereas the expression of Histatin 5 in ECC higher than Caries-free (p0.05). The sIgA correlating in ECC and caries-free is significant (p0.05) and no correlation (r =- 0,29). Whereas Histatin 5 in the ECC and caries-free were strong correlation = 0,84. Both the result of ECC and caries-free suggested that the antibodies have been involved in the caries pathogenesis. In the ECC cases that occurred to decrease sIgA levels and increased of Histatin 5 levels, both antibodies have expressed in Caries-free Children. Both sIgA and Histatin 5 involved in the pathogenesis caries infection in children.KEYWORDS: Antibodies; Early Childhood Caries; saliva; secretory immunoglobulin A; Histatin-5
