Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the effect of the substitution of butter with avocado flesh on the organoleptic properties of the thousand layers roll. The second objective of this study was to describe the community's acceptance of the hedonic test on the substitution of butter with avocado flesh on a thousand layers roll. Based on the Duncan test, the entire treatment had significant differences in texture and taste. Whereas color and scent have differences in treatment F0 and F1 but have significant differences in treatment F2 and F3. This is because the texture and taste are largely determined by the level of maturity of the avocado, not all avocados can be precise and the weight ratio used between treatments. In addition, the fiber and fat in the avocado are stronger so that the more avocado content, the thicker it will be and dominate the rolled legit layer cake. In terms of quality of treatment F3 (60% butter, 40% avocado) has the highest value with color 5.68 (like category), texture (like category), scent 5.48 (somewhat like category) and taste 5.84 (like category). Of the four treatments, there was one treatment that was somewhat disliked by the panelists, namely F0 where the composition of 0% avocado butter with an inaccurate formula resulted in the finished product of rolled legit rolls, which differed greatly from the finished results of the other three treatments (F1, F2 and F3). This is because the avocado content cannot fully replace the function of butter in the thousand layers roll.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of interpretation implemented at the Makassar city museum and analyze the efforts to implement the museum as an educational tourist attraction through the concept of interpretation. This study applies a qualitative methodology at the Makassar city museum in the April˗May 2022 period. The results showed that the Makassar city museum staff had implemented personal and nonpersonal interpretations in supporting the museum's function as historical and cultural preservation and an educational tourist attraction. However, museum staff consider several aspects required for the practice of interpretation. For example, visitors exploring the collection without being guided by museum staff can reduce the quality of the tourist experience. Museum staff should also evaluate issues such as museum collections that do not have information labels and labels that are too short and unclear and do not use international language. This study proposes five models of interpretation development, i.e., a digital-based information management model (website and social media); models of strengthening cooperation and partnerships; nonpersonal interpretation identification and evaluation model; model of integration of personal and nonpersonal interpretation; and collaboration and partnership models. This research enhances the urgency of interpretation in supporting education-based tourism. The museum offers an experience for visitors to see cultural artifacts of historical value and carry out educational activities and experiential learning while travelling.

Qualitative research has guided the researchers in collecting data in Paccekke Village, Barru Regency, in 2021. The results reveal supporting and inhibiting factors for implementing sustainable tourism villages. The supporting factors are the natural and cultural potential of the village; sustainable natural conditional; positive attitude of the community towards tourism and the culture of collaborative work (gotong royong); the existence of cultural events; and commitment of local stakeholders. The inhibiting factors are limited facilities and infrastructure, weak planning in the tourism sector, extreme accessibility; weak internet network; and the low awareness and ability of the community in managing tourism potential. This study recommends the importance of utilising the existence of tourist villages in the Barru Regency as a whole in order to improve the quality of tourist visits. Abstract

There is limited literature on the study of rural tourism, particularly related to supply and demand. This study aims to (1) identify the supply and demand aspects of rural tourism, (2) describe the concept of rural tourism based on supply and demand data. This research employs a qualitative approach in examining rural tourism in Paccekke Village, Barru Regency, for six months in the period from April to September 2021. The authors collected information through interviews with the local community and authority of Paccekke Tourism Village and direct observation. The study reveals that local communities and village officials have the opportunity to manage and develop villages through the concept of rural tourism. There are three types of supply: existing potential supply, supply of tour packages, and alternative tourism supply. This paper divides the demand for rural tourism into two parts, including products that can meet the tourists’ needs and prepared and managed rural tourism products. This study concludes that rural tourism can be realised by combining the concepts of supply and demand. This study contributes to the management and development of the village through the concept of rural tourism. This research strengthens the theory/concept of supply and demand in examining the reality of rural tourism development.

Abstract

Studies on destination attributes mainly focused on the motivation or experience of tourists and their relation to these attributes. Therefore, in-depth reports are required to fully understand tourism villages as destinations, particularly in relation to the factors that contribute to their success. This study aimed to (1) identify tourism products in tourism villages, (2) identify the determinants of tourism destination attributes, and (3) recommend efforts to improve the management of destination attributes in developing as tourism villages. A qualitative approach was used which was conducted at Kuta Village, Lombok, in 2022. The results showed the tourism products in Kuta Village are the local population's natural landscape, culture, and hospitality. The determining factors that support the management of destination products were strategic locations, various tourist attractions and activities, availability of amenities, as well as good accessibility. However, the village managers needed to address essential issues, such as parking facilities, transportation, and limited skilled personnel in providing services to tourists. This study recommended three steps for managing destination attributes, namely training in sustainable home stay management, improving tourism-supporting facilities and infrastructure, as well as regulating physical infrastructure and accessibility. Moreover, there were arguments (insights) regarding the existence of a village as a destination with the management of attributes and determinants. These served as the key to the successful management of tourism destination.

Abstract

There is limited literature that examines villages in the perspective of destination attractiveness. The purpose of this research is to 1) describe the tourism potential of the village; 2) analyse the role of stakeholders in promoting the village as a tourism destination; 3) describe the steps or efforts to develop the village as a tourism destination from the perspective of destination attractiveness. A qualitative approach guides the author in analysing the attractiveness of destinations in Hila village. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation and literature studies in April 2022. The results showed that Hila village has natural and cultural potential to become a destination product. However, local stakeholders tend to only focus on Amsterdam as a rural tourism icon. Local organisation (Pokdarwis) as rural tourism manager faces challenges in carrying out the duties and roles of destination managers, including integrating elements of destination attractiveness. This study outlines the urgency of destination attractiveness in managing it as a tourism destination. This research contributes to strengthening the concept of destination attractiveness as a strategy for managing natural and cultural potential through packaging potential into tourism destination products. Destination attractiveness can be an effective strategy if Pokdarwis, the government and the community become integral to developing rural tourism. This research fills in the tourism literature on analysing tourist villages and implementing practical steps for managing destinations from the perspective of destination attractiveness. Keywords: Destination attractiveness; Hila village; tourism village; village management; tourism stakeholder

Abstract

Sustainable tourism management is a crucial aspect that needs attention to improve the quality of destinations. Sekotong, an area in West Lombok regency, has a lot of potential that can be developed to support sustainable tourism, while studies on identifying the potential and implementing sustainable tourism in this area are still limited. This study aims to identify tourism potential in Sekotong as a tourism product and evaluate the implementation of sustainable tourism management in each destination of Sekotong. Data collection was carried out through the observation of four representative destinations, namely Mangrove Sekotong Tengah and Elak-Elak Beach representing marine tourism, Mareje Village for rural tourism, and 3 Gilis (Naggu, Tangkong, Sudak) representing island tourism. The research was conducted by observing the potencies of these destinations and then reviewing the implementation of the concept of sustainability. To obtain more information, researchers interviewed managers or tourism operators at each destination. The observation and interview referred to 4 pillars of the GSTC sustainable tourism standards. The results showed that there is a potential for cultural tourism products in Mareje village, marine and underwater tourism activities in 3 Gilis and Elak-Elak beach, as well as marine-based educational tours in Mangrove Sekotong Selatan. Referring to the 4 pillars in sustainable tourism, however, the management and provision of facilities need to be standardized and improved. In addition, several important strategies need to be implemented in improving the quality of these destinations such as synchronization among stakeholders and training in implementing destination management by considering all sustainable tourism concepts in accordance with the 4 pillars in the GSTC criteria.
