Abstract

Scientific literacy is a part of 21st-century skills that must have by students in order to use their knowledge properly. This research is motivated by the current state of education which is intensively developing scientific literacy skills in the school. This is caused by science and technology development, so students are required to be able to adapt to technology, science, environment, and society. This research aimed to reveal MAN 1 Dumai students’ ability based on scientific literacy in the maritime context.  The survey method used in this study with 164 samples. The scientific literacy of the students was measured by using a scientific literacy test referring to the PISA 2015 scientific literacy competence aspects. The results of descriptive analysis show that the scientific literacy of MAN 1 Dumai student’s is in the sufficient category with an average score 60.27. Scientific literacy in the competence to explain scientific phenomena is in the sufficient category with an average 61.51, while in evaluating and designing scientific inquiry is in the sufficient category with an average 56.95. Meanwhile, interpreting data and evidence scientifically is in the sufficient category with an average 60.71. Then based on the inferential test, there is no significant difference between male and female students about the level of scientific literacy.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the increase in students' interest in learning science by studying the concept of material classification and its changes, through mobile learning learning media. The research method uses a pretest-posttest control group design with quantitative data types. Data on students' learning interests was collected through distributing learning interest questionnaires before and after learning using mobile learning media. The research instrument was prepared based on ARCS learning interest aspects (attention, relevance, self-confidence, and satisfaction). Data were analyzed descriptively using a Likert scale and inferentially using the Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the research showed that students' interest in learning had increased in the experimental class with a good category of 83% and a very good 17%. Inferentially, a significant increase in interest in learning was obtained. These results provide the conclusion that the application of mobile learning media has a positive impact on increasing student interest in learning better in learning material classification and its changes in class VII Junior High School.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the improvement in cognitive learning outcomes of students at SMA Negeri 6 Pekanbaru on optical instruments through the application of the TGT (Teams Games Tournament) type cooperative learning model in the form of domino cards. The type of research used is Quasi-Experimental. The research sample consisted of 35 students from class XI MIPA 3 as the control class and 36 students from class XI MIPA 4 as the experimental class. The instrument in this research is a written test on optical instruments, totaling 25 objective questions. The cognitive learning results of students by comparing the average scores of the experimental class and the control class obtained an average of 81.11 with a very high category in the experimental class while an average of 63.20 with a medium category in the control class. Overall, it can be concluded that the TGT-type cooperative learning model in the form of card media can improve the physics cognitive learning outcomes of class XI students at SMA Negeri 6 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of ethnoscience-based learning methods of Pacu Jalur Tradition on the cognitive abilities of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kuantan Hilir. The methodology used in this research is quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent post-test design. Samples were analyzed randomly after normality and homogeneity tests were completed to determine the experimental group and control group. This research used test instruments in the form of multiple-choice questions about cognitive abilities. Analysis of research data using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The results of the independent sample t-test hypothesis test on cognitive abilities are shown with a significance level of 0.002 ≤ 0.05. There is a significant difference in students' cognitive abilities between ethnoscience-based learning in the Pacu Jalur Tradition and conventional classes. Learning based on the Pacu Jalur Tradition is effective in improving the cognitive abilities of students at SMA Negeri 1 Kuantan Hilir on the kinematics of straight motion.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' cognitive learning outcomes by using a contextual approach oriented towards traditional kelong fishing gear. This research method uses a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent post-test only group design. The population in this study was class VIII students, totaling 79 people. The population came from three classes, of which 2 classes were then selected for the research sample, namely class VIII-1 as the experimental group and class VIII-2 as the control group. The research was carried out in four meetings. After learning is complete, students are given a posttest in the form of a cognitive learning outcomes test instrument with 25 multiple-choice questions. The average score data on student learning outcomes shows differences between the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class obtained an average score of 72.90 in the good category, while the control class obtained an average score of 59.37 in the quite good category. Then, based on the independent sample T-Test, the significance results were 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, learning with a contextual approach oriented towards traditional kelong fishing gear is effectively used to improve cognitive science learning outcomes for students at SMPN 1 Lingga Utara.
