Abstract

This study aims to describe relationship between knowledge and family preparedness in facing dengue fever in Lhokseumawe City. The study is conducted in 20 villages, in 3 districts namely Muara Dua District, Banda Sakti, Muara Satu Lhokseumawe City. The selection of this location is considered to be a DHF endemic village where every year DHF free larvae cases are found below 95 percent with the number of cases 111 in 2018. The result shows that Family preparedness in the face of dengue fever in Lhokseumawe City is mostly 76 families ready (66.1%). Knowledge has no effect on family preparedness in the face of dengue fever in Lhokseumawe City (p = 0.073).

Abstract

ABSTRACTHigh death rate caused by non-transmitted diseases in the world is begun with metabolic syndrome in human beings such the increase in IMT (Body Mass Index) to be obesity, the increase in blood pressure to be hypertension, the increase in blood glucose to be diabetes mellitus, and abnormality of triglycerides, and  HDL cholesterol. Many factors which trigger the indicator abnormality, and of them is bad sleep quality. The research used cross sectional design by analyzing the correlation between sleep quality and 5 metabolic syndrome indicator in female nurses in the operation room of Adam Malik Medan hospital. Sleep quality was measured by using questionnaire of Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), body height and weight were measured to get IMT value, blood pressure was measured by using tensimeter, blood glucose and blood lipid were measured by getting the respondent’s vena blood samples. The data were processed and analysis with independent t-test.The result with independent t-test showed that there was significant difference in IMT (sig=0,003), systolic blood pressure (sig=0,028), and fasting blood glucose content (sig=0,00). However, there was no significant difference in trigliyceride content (sig=0,519), HDL cholesterol content (sig=0,300),). The conclusion was that sleep quality was correlated with three metabolic syndrome indicators: IMT, blood pressure, and blood glucose content, but there was no correlation with trigliyceride and HDL cholesterol. Keywords: Sleep Quality, Metabolic Syndrome , T-Test,

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a directly-infectious disease caused by tuberculosis bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) that are airborne through droplets or nuclei when a patient coughs and the saliva droplets containing the bacteria are inhaled by another person while breathing. The research investigates the effect of the physical conditions of the house and working environment on the pulmonary TB events among construction workers in the Asahan Regency. It is an analytic epidemiological survey with a case-control design, and involves examining the entire population amounting to 74 people: the first 37 suffered from pulmonary TB and worked as construction workers (case-group), and the other 37 didn't suffer from pulmonary TB and worked as construction workers (control-group). They were analyzed by using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and multivariate analysis. The results showed that the types of floor (p=0.040), lighting (p=0.027), wall (p=0.034), working lengths (p=0.102), and masks uses (p=0.000) have affected pulmonary TB events. In this case, the use of masks (p=0.003) was the most dominant variable. This study suggests counseling on healthy houses for families who are prone to pulmonary TB. Good types of lighting, floor, and wall can be useful in every house to reduce the risk of TB developing to last for a long period or leading to death.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease caused by dengue virus and is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito. Ventilation and light intensity are physical controls to reduce the risk of outbreaks of DHF. Medan is one of the cities that is endemic for DHF, so DHF cases continue to occur and even increase every year. In 2018 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever have increased as many as 1490 cases with a death rate of 13 people. This study aims to analyze the relationship between ventilation, light intensity and water storage conditions with the incidence of DHF. This type of research is descriptive, with case control design. The study population was 98 households, the study sample consisted of 49 cases and 49 controls. Data collection through observation and measurement. Data analysis methods include univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using chi square. The univariate analysis results demonstrated that the dengue hemorrhagic fever cases had higher prevalence rate in August (41%) and had dominant attack on 3-14 year old people (39%) as well as on females (59%). The bivariate analysis results indicated that lighting (OR= 9.474), ventilation (OR= 5.949) and condition of water reservoirs (OR= 4.769) were correlated with prevalence of dengue hemorrhagic fever. It was suggested to the public to pay attention to the intensity of light inside the house and install a wire mesh on the ventilation if the home environment contained a lot of DHF vectors and closed water reservoirs.

Abstract

Stroke is an important health problem in the world because stroke shows increased pain. In Indonesia, there are 500,000 people who experience strokes each year among 125,000 people die and others experience mild and severe disability. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of physical activities and smoking habits toward incidence of stroke on inpatients at Santa Elisabeth Hospital, Medan. This research is an observational analytic with a case control study design. Subjects consisted of cases and controls with a ratio of 1: 1 totaling 106 people namely 53 cases and 53 controls. Data collection uses interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis using simple logistic regression test. Simple logistic regression test results found that there is a significant influence between physical activity (p = 0.014; OR = 2.828, 95% CI 1,220-6,553) and smoking habits (p = 0.001; OR = 3,720, 95% CI 1,668-8,297) on the incidence stroke. It is recommended to do physical activity with adequate body movements and exercise and stop smoking.

Abstract

Sleep is one of the basic human needs that is useful for maintaining mental, emotional and health balance when awake. However, physical and physiological changes in the elderly coupled with health status and disease have an impact on the decline in the quality of sleep. The elders usually experience increased sleep latency, inability to initiate sleep, reduced sleep efficiency, sleeplessness, waking up faster, rhythm of sircadian disorders, and increased time for napping. The elders in Deli Serdang Regency chose to consume alcohol to overcome their sleep problems. This descriptive analytic study aims to analyze the relationship between alcohol consumption habits, especially palm wine and sleep quality of elders in Deli Serdang Regency. This study uses a cross sectional design with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were all elders living in Deli Serdang Regency. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique. The sample size were 153 people and to anticipate the low response rate the sample was added by ten percent to 164 elderly people. The results showed that from simple regression logistic test, it was obtained that the palm wine consumption variable with p score = 0.023 PR = 12.115 (95% CI 1.421 - 103.276). Alcohol consumption factors were factors that are very likely to be changed by controlling excessive drinking (palm wine) alcoholic behavior. It would be better if the alcohol consumption habits (palm wine) were stopped because remembering the long-term effects of alcohol which not only affect the quality of sleep to be bad but also can affect one's health status.

So the minimum total sample is 54 respondents with a ratio of one to one (1:1). Data processing is carried out with the stages of editing, coding, entry, and cleaning before data analysis is carried out, then checks and repairs are carried out. Data analysis used bivariate analysis. The results showed that the health protocols category for the use of mask obtained p-value=0.036, meaning that there has relationship between the use of mask and the incidence of COVID-19. Washing hand with soap has no relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with p-value=0.781. Maintaining a minimum distance of 1 meter has no relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with a p-value=0.739. Limiting activities outside the home has relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with a p-value=0.034.
