Abstract

Damage to mangrove ecosystems in coastal areas could result in biotic and abiotic physical changes. This damage might occur due to natural factors or human activities. Among the damaged mangrove ecosystems in East Kalimantan Province is Sebuntal Village. The aim of this research is to monitor and evaluate the survival rate of mangrove seedlings in Sebuntal village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The research population used in this research was all mangrove seedlings (Avicennia spp) planted during community service activities on August 9th, 2023. The research method used in this study was the survey method. It was found that the survival rate in this study was only 8.2%. This research showed that individual mangroves' survival rates were unsuccessful due to inappropriate planting times, hydro-oceanographic patterns that are poorly studied, and poor seed preparation.

Abstract

Mangrove are one of the important ecosystems in coastal areas that provide great benefits to other ecosystems. Excessive use of mengroves poses a threat to the growth of mengroves, one of which is the conversion of land, therefore it is necessary to make efforts to improve the mengrove ecosystem by planting mangroves. However, in the planting process, it is necessary to match the planting location, including the condition of the substrate. The aim of the research was to determine the percentage of substrate on the growth of Rhizophora sp. mangrove saplings. This research was conducted in June to October 2022 at Kuala Samboja beach, East Kalimantan. The research method is a survey method with a quantitative approach, measuring the success rate of mangrove life and analyzing substrate types. Based on the life success rate, the most mangrove saplings live at SR stations at 28 ind, ST stations at 20 ind and the least success at SD stations at 6 ind. Based on the research location, at SR and SK stations the silt type is dominated by 51-54%, at SL and ST stations the substrate type is dominated by silt (46-49%) and fine sand (39-49%) and at the SD station the substrate type is dominated by sand. (56%).

Abstract

Selili Fish Landed Place (TPI), Samarinda City has been built in 1900/1991 and served as an economic driver for fishing communities and ports in East Kalimantan Province. At TPI Selili, several types of pelagic fish have been landed based on the fish cached by the fisherman. However, some ordinary people in Samarinda city are not very familiar with pelagic fish names. Therefore, this study is needed to identification of pelagic fish landed at TPI Selili, Samarinda City. The purpose of this study was to identify the types of pelagic fish landed at TPI Selili. All data was collected at the TPI Selili, Samarinda City from September to October 2022. The methods used in this study were survey and interview methods. Identification of pelagic fish was conducted by matching the morphological forms of fish with fish identification books. All data from observations in the field were analyzed using Microsoft Windows Excel. All pictures and tables were described, described, and explained descriptively. It was found 6 species of small pelagic fish such as Indian scad fish, yellowtail scad, mackerel, gizzard shad, anchovies, sardines, and 3 species of large pelagic fish namely tuna, skipjack, and mackerel which landed in TPI Selili. In addition, the percentage of small pelagic fish that most landed at TPI Selili was Indian scad fish at 88.9%, and tuna at 96.1% for big pelagic fish.
