Abstract

This study was aimed at describing and explaining the effect of the understanding of teacher professional allowance, job satisfaction, professional competence, pedagogic competence and organizational commitment towards the positive behaviors of the certified teachers. It utilized descriptive correlational and causal-comparative research design of quantitative approach. The sample which was 274 certified teachers was taken by using proportional random sampling. The data was collected by using questionnaire and it was analyzed by using structural equation model of descriptive statistics frequency distribution. The difference test was run simultaneously by using Chow Test of regression equation test. The result of the current study showed that (1) there was influence of the teacher professional allowance understanding towards job satisfaction, professional competence, pedagogic competence and organizational commitment, (2) there was no influence of teacher professional allowance understanding  towards the positives behaviors of the certified teachers, (3) there was influence of job satisfaction and organizational commitment  towards the positives behaviors of the certified teachers, and (4) there was no influence of professional and pedagogic competence towards the positive behaviors of the certified teachers. Keywords: teacher professional allowance understanding, job satisfaction, professional competence, pedagogic competence, organizational commitment and the positive behavior of the certified teachers

Abstract

This research aims at: 1) mapping university student’s background, 2) expectation university students on future career, 3) finding out the differences of student’s background and expectation. This research uses descriptive comparative method. The population of this research is students of AP FIP UM and MP FIP UNESA. The number of sample is 248 respondents from 743 populations. Data is taken using questionnaire. The results are: 1) most students are from East Java and graduated from Senior High School. The parents’ highest educations are from Senior High School. Parents’ occupation is businessmen. Students’ interest is art. Most parent’s expectation that their children will reach career as public servant (PNS). 2) Students college after graduation, they have expectation to work in the field of education on the staff of the Ministry of National Education. Non-educational field, they have hopes to be an employee of Bank. 3) Based on group variable university, sex, and student year, there are similarities and there are differences. Keywords: mapping students’ background, expectation, future career, entrepreneurship

Abstract

This study describes characters' value integration in developing an organizational culture in education which has got various significance changes in all aspect. This obviously can be seen from the lecturers' professionalism programs, students' output as well as the ongoing physical development. This is a qualitative research involving a case study design. The data was collected through observation, documentation, and deep interview techniques, and then analyzed through (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) conclusion. From data analyzed, shows that the integration of characters based on Islamic values in constructing organization culture in STAI shows more effective impact. The values involve (1) love, (2) sincerity, (3) patient, (4) professional activities, (5) God's Blessing, and (6) The awareness of previous histories. Keywords: spiritual based characters values; organizational culture

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of instructional leadership shown by the Principal of Junior High School, Malang City. The experiment was conducted with a qualitative approach. The technique of collecting data used interview, observation, and documentation. Data was analyzed using an interactive model as proposed by Miles and Huberman. The results showed the profile of instructional leadership principals were: (1) the action according to the vision and mission of the school; (2) developing the curriculum according to the vision, mission, and objectives of the school; (3) develop schools towards learning organization; (4) work hard to achieve the success of the school as a learning organization; (5) creating a culture and school climate conducive to learning and innovative; and (6) manage learners in order to develop its capacity. Keywords: instructional leadership, principal, junior high school

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe: (1) the profile of alumni address and profession, (2) alumni management including planning, organizing, alumni development, empowerment, and evaluation, (3) communication for the network building of the alumni association at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid. Abstract

The aim of the study was to find and give in-depth description of teachers’ performance in State Islamic Junior High School 3 Gondanglegi, State Islamic Junior High School Turen, and State Islamic Junior High School Lawang. The data was collected by using participant observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. The findings of the study were: (1) the teachers’ performance programs were planned by involving the stakeholders and were based on the vision, the mission, and the goals of the Islamic schools which were in line with the specialties and the characteristics of the Islamic schools, (2) teachers’ performance programs which were suitable with the lesson plan were carried out by the teachers. The implemented teaching and learning strategies varied based on the materials and the characteristics of the learners, (3) the evaluation model of the teachers’ performance was done by the principals by evaluating the sets of learning in the beginning of the academic year, supervising the ongoing teaching and learning in the classroom, evaluating the teachers’ performance through the teachers’ diary, giving questionnaire to and interviewing the students, and thoroughly evaluating by using DP3 form at the end of the academic year, (4) the good management of the teachers’ performance led to the improvement of the teachers’ professionalism and the improvement of the teachers’ professionalism led to the improvement of the students’ academic and non-academic achievement. Keywords: management, teachers' performance, high-performing Islamic schools

Abstract

Intention of this research is to gather a right learning model that improving an integrated curriculum quality through a scientific approach for elementary school student. This research using the developing model Borg and Gall did. The result of this activities are (1) to find alternative model of integrated curriculum Learning process with scientific approach that lead student to process the subject of matter with doing, feeling, proving, and describing activity in the class and not just memorize the topic. (2) student learning activity showing the improvement of problem solving skill in the group. (3) student creativity showing an improvement of the style on their learning process. They are not only coming to school just for stead to listen the teacher instruction and do the task that given but also, they can change their style of study with observation, identification, analyzing, comparing and proving activity. (4) to held a pleasant condition in group. The result of the research showing the highest score. Almost 85%-100% of the objective that been reached. This result of research in recorded to CD that accommodating of the integrated curriculum learning strategy with scientific approach based on value inquiry. The implication of research has to follow by the teacher of elementary school with improving their performance to increasing the quality of learning process and to reach out the effective of an integrated curriculum learning process. Keywords: integrated curriculum, scientific approach

Abstract

The current study aimed at describing the instructional leadership behaviors of Islamic school principals in developing the teachers' performance. There were four focuses which were (1) promoting the vision and the mission, (2) reforming the teaching and learning, (3) implementing the teaching and learning practice, (4) creating positive learning climate. This study utilized qualitative approach with multi-site research design. The data was collected by using in-depth interview, observation, and documentation. The data analysis was done by using on-site and cross-site data analysis. To check the credibility of the data, triangulation technique, member check and peer discussion were used. Meanwhile, the audibility check was done by the advisor. The research  showed that the principals: (1) promoted the vision and the mission by (a) communicating with the society and realizing them into the goals of the Islamic schools, (b) implementing them into the programs and the policies that were especially related to the teaching and learning, (2) reformed the teaching and learning by: (a) organizing the teaching and learning through participative and innovative management, (b) having high expectations in teachers' performance and the students' achievement, (3) improved the teaching and learning practice by (a) diagnosing the teaching and learning problems through class supervision and in-service programs depending on the teachers' needs, (b) used the students' learning outcome to improve and to encourage the teachers to utilize the learning sources optimally, (4) creating positive learning climate: (a) created working mechanism which made formal and informal discussion about teaching and learning, (b) created the reward system for the achievements. Keywords:  instructional leadership behaviors, principals of Islamic schools, teachers’ performance

Abstract

Education in remote areas with its problems and obstacles requires a special approach. The phenomena of lower motivated teachers in remote areas need supervisors and related stakeholders  to make relevant breakthrough efforts to solve the problems. Home Visiting Supervision (HVS) is an alternative approach applied by school supervisors to handle problems of unmotivated teachers. The purposes of this study are to describe (1) basic consideration of HVS, (2) the involvement of related stakeholders, (3) the implementation mechanism of HVS, and (4the indicators of HVS implementation progress. This study used a qualitative approach with case study design, the area where the supervisors work, Kecamatan Miri Manasa, Kabupaten Gunung Mas, Central Kalimantan Province.  The results of the study showed that (1) the basic consideration HVS: a) supervision is not effectively implemented during school hours because there are often many teachers not at school during working hours, b) the teachers still prioritize to fulfill personal needs rather than fulfill their professional work assignment, so that it is easier to meet them at home, rivers or in the rice fields, c) the supervision implementation can be reached if the teachers commitment have been established; (2) the stakeholders who applied the HVS are elementary school supervisors, principals, and community leaders; (3) the implementation mechanism of HVS: a) preparation stage, b) introduction/initial meeting stage, c) implementation/process of supervision stage, and d) last meeting/feedback meeting stage; (4) indicators of HVS progress: a) increase in the teachers’ discipline regarding being on time when coming to and leaving the school. b) Teaching Learning Process are applied in all class, c) there is good cooperations and respect between the leaders and colleagues, d) the teachers are willing to accept supervision from the principal and supervisor.   Keywords: home visiting supervision, increasing the commitment, elementary teacher, remote area

Abstract

This study was aimed at describing several issues related to the people living in Gajahrejo Village, Gedangan Districts, Malang Regency including: a) the condition of social economy, b) the potential of natural resources, c) the profile of the society needs, d) the profile of the community development by making the most of the local potential, and e) the pattern of community development especially in dusun Bajulmati. The research design of this study was case study which took place in Gajahrejo Village and focused on Dusun Bajulmati. The data was collected by using in-depth interview which was accompanied by focus group discussion (FGD), observation technique, and documentation involving research participants who were several respected figures living in Dusun Bajulmati. The result of the study was in the form of information related to the abundant natural resources which were used to develop the society. However, the human resources were not sufficient enough because the education was relatively low. The existing positive points were that the people living in Dusun Bajulmati were hard workers and that they were supported by agent of change especially Mr. Shohibul Izar who was highly dedicated to develop the community in Dusun Bajulmati. Based on the result of the study, it was suggested that there should be a traininginstitution which was willing to give life skill education and practice in order to improve the quality of the society. In addition, an organization that could help the farmers who worked in forest so there would be a good relation between the State Forestry Company and the people living Gajahrejo village as farmers who worked in forest by planting intercultural crops which was the main income for most of people living near the forest. Keywords: empowering, local potential, and community development
