Abstract

This research aims to determine the construction of PDIP's image from the news framing on them as the party who has the most corrupted fraction members in the event of mass coruption case if the People’s Legislative Council (DPRD) of Malang City by the online media, Detik.com. This research is conducted through constructivism paradigm with the sudty of framing analysis by Robert M. Entman as a conceptual foundation with the framing concept of Entman, namely, define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgement, and treatment recommendation from journalist side; using the theory of the social mass media as a theoretical foundation. The results of the framing carried out by the online media, Detik.com tend to be neutral in delivering their news on the mass corruption case of the DPRD of Malang City in construction the image of PDIP as the most corrupted party. This is because the media deliver both side cover, even Detik.com’s journalists already included opinions in the titles and selecting images in the news. Although Detik.com tends to be neutral, becase Detik.com just deliver the facts. The bad image construction of PDIP has been constructed already, as the news is considered to be a bad news model.

Abstract

Chinese is an ethnic minority in Aceh province implementing Sharia law. This minority group gets a lot of negative stereotypes. This study looks at the reciprocal relationship between stereotypes and interpersonal communication between Acehnese and Chinese. Using Social Learning Theory, this study seeks to describe how a person's learning process through face-to-face interpersonal communication can confirm, change, and even eliminate negative stereotypes that have been previously known. This study employed an explanatory qualitative method. The data were obtained through in-depth interviews with five key informants who were Acehnese and have lived in Gampong Laksana for more than 10 years. The results of this study illustrate that, even though the informants learned many negative stereotypes of Chinese, the majority of informants were not affected by these negative stereotypes. The informants chose to trust personal experience and establish effective communication with Chinese, which eventually eliminated negative stereotypes towards the Chinese group.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the reproduction of knowledge on the exotics of the body materialised through photographs in the Facebook group ‘Indonesia Tempo Dulu’ which is a memory site for the construction of oriental identities framed in the complexity of past history and the present context. This problem is a study that uses visual methodology as a method in finding answers to how digital culture that enables the transmission of old media, in this case photographs, becomes the domain for identity reproduction. History is not only presented as a form of romanticism which is a casual factor for the emergence of digital technology as a product of modernity but as a construction that opens up spaces of possible heterogeneity in defining and performing identities, especially in social media. This study uses postcolonial theories in exploring important concepts such as ‘memory’, ‘domination’, ‘subjugation’ and ‘power’
