Abstract

Abstract

This paper explains the spirit of cleanliness which is constructed in the life of the people of Penglipuran Bali. By synergizing local wisdom and religious spirit, the Penglipuran community manifests a culture of clean behavior and good environmental care. Various religious concepts that refer to the Hindu belief system, Penglipuran people derive transcendental concepts such as Tri Hita Karana in their daily lives and in their sphere of life. This paper poses two important questions as the basis for the analysis of the problem. First, What is the concept of environmental cleanliness according to the Penglipuran community. Second, is there a meeting point for the value of local wisdom and the spirit of religion in guiding public awareness in realizing environmental cleanliness. The writer analyzed this problem using a sociological approach in the perspective of interpretive understanding. From the research process carried out, the authors found that the meaning of cleanliness constructed by the Penglipuran community is based on value of religiousity. Through Hindu teachings that emphasize the concept of Tri Hita Karana, the people derive it from various spheres of their lives in protecting the environment and building a culture of clean behavior. On the other hand, Penglipuran community also uses local wisdom as a way of looking at, how to behave, and how to act in maintaining the cleanliness and beuty of the Penglipuran environment.

Abstract

Working as the breadwinner of the family is generally done by men. However, in the current era, women are also the backbone of the family, especially women in early adulthood. Various problems faced by early adult women who work as the backbone of the family have an impact on individual resilience. To achieve good resilience, good self-esteem is needed so that individuals can overcome the problems they face. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and resilience in early adult women who work as the backbone of the family. Quantitative correlational design is the method employed. The sample in this study amounted to 119 participants aged 20-40 years using incidental sampling. The research measurement used the Self-Esteem Inventory (a = .938) and the Adult Resilience Scale (a = .922). The research data analysis method used the Spearman Rho correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between self-esteem and resilience in young adult women who worked as the backbone of the family (r = .495 and sig. = .000). Self-esteem makes an effective contribution of 24.5% to resilience. This indicates that self-esteem is one of the factors associated with increased resilience. It is expected that early adult women who work as the backbone of the family will maintain good self-esteem every day to achieve good resilience in overcoming any problems in their lives.

Abstract

This article investigates the confluence of political and economic factors in the disputes that arise between corporations and indigenous communities in Southeast Asia. The Southeast Asian region has been a locus of considerable contention between corporations and native populations, particularly with regard to the utilisation of natural resources. The conflict is further intensified by the cultural heterogeneity of the region and the intricate social intricacies that ensue from it. The aforementioned conflicts are analysed within a comprehensive framework that encompasses the political and economic milieu at both the regional and national levels. The method used is qualitative, with data sources derived from journal articles, news, reports, and government and interantional organizations publications. Data processing begins with data collection, data analysis, data interpretation, and data visualisation in the form of tables and figures. The findings indicate that the aforementioned conflicts are not solely focused on vying for resources but also encompass a broader struggle for autonomy, personal identity, and basic human entitlements. The aforementioned assertion underscores the noteworthy impact of political and economic variables in moulding and escalating conflicts. It is imperative to establish a conflict resolution mechanism that is both inclusive and sustainable and safeguards the rights and interests of all stakeholders in order to mitigate and potentially resolve the conflict at hand.

Abstract

Balinese people who are unable to produce male offspring use Nyentana, a matrilineal mating system. In the midst of patriarchal culture and a dense patrilineal kinship system, it is difficult for men to perform Nyentana marriage. The study intends to discover how Balinese men perceive Nyentana marriage as a type of matrilineal marriage. This is an exploratory qualitative study with a phenomenological approach, and data was gathered through direct interviews with four Balinese men who had performed Nyentana marriages. The findings revealed that the concept of patriarchal society was used, which stated that men were dominant and women were subordinate. According to the participants in this study, there is no clear distinction between patrilineal marriages in general and Nyentana marriages in particular; men remain the head of the family and exercise leadership in the indigenous community system. Men who have participated in Nyentana Marriage believe that this matrilineal marriage is widespread, particularly in the Tabanan region. Some participants also mentioned that this type of marriage is not permitted in all areas of Bali. Men who have participated in Nyentana mating believe this is normal because men continue to dominate and are encouraged by the customary system. It can be concluded that men who have participated in Nyentana marriage see no distinction between Nyentana marriage as a type of matrilineal marriage and patrilineal marriage in general.
