Abstract

Today, microwave can be used in various chemical processes. The advantage of microwaves is able to deliver energy directly to the material. One of microwave application is the extraction process of natural materials. Microwaves can be used to reduce extraction process time of the anthocyanin from the dragon fruit skin. This research aims to determine the solvent extracted effect to the anthocyanin extraction of dragon fruit skin using microwaves. The solvent used was 95% ethanol, 85% ethanol, 75% ethanol, 95% ethanol –citric acid, 85% ethanol -acids and 75% - citric acid ethanol to the anthocyanin extraction results of dragon fruit skin extracted using microwaves. The consumption of microwave power is 400 watt with 50 gram of dragon fruits skin. Then, anthocyanin extracts are mixe with supporting materials to be made as lipstick and proposed for topical and favorite test. The best yield can be obtained by using ethanol-citric acid solvent at 25,031%.

Abstract

The purpose of Just In Time (JIT) is to increase productivity and reduce production costs by eliminating dissipation that exist in the company through continuous improvement activities, and the purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of JIT in increasing productivity and cost efficiency of production in manufacturing companies. The research stages research are 1) identify problems 2) data used in this research are quantitative data and qualitative data, 3) the collection and processing of production and purchasing data, 4) the implementation of JIT system, 5) eliminate the dissipation and the available participation of employees, 6) reduce or eliminate defect products. The results of this research indicate that the implementation of JIT can improve company productivity and efficiency of the production costs.

Abstract

MMT-ITS Study Program is a program that has orientations in developing and implementing Technology Management science. This program has some fields and they are Industrial Management, Project Management, and Information Technology Management. Service quality can be known by using Service Quality Methods, they are: (i) tangible, (ii) reliability, (iii) responsiveness, (iv) assurance, and (v) emphaty. The assesment of service levels use questionnaire and this research propose to use Gap 5.  Based on the integration result of Servqual Method and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA), MMT-ITS students’ satisfaction will be reached by improving some variables, they are: motorcycle parking space, availability of cleaning service, the ease of delivering facilities and infrastructures complaints, the efficiency of security guard (a main priority of quadrant I). Maintaining the achievement of quadrant II includes: quick in delivering academic information, satisfying literatures of books/references/journals, good lecture materials comprehension, online journal can be accessed easily and fast, any replacement class, fast response to students’ complaints, the ease of academic students’ complaints, the good conditions of tables and chairs, clean classroom,  employees willing to give lectures information, clarity in giving information related to college payment and another activities, guarantee of students’ data confidentiality, bright light in the room, safe feeling in students, polite and kind employees, room temperature which is cool. While, another very important variables are fast wifi/internet facility and clean toilet (quadrant IV that has high satisfaction level).

Abstract

Silica scale formation on the brine re-injection lines of geothermal power plants can lead to serious problems because it increased pressure drop and failure of the safety devices. One of the most effective methods to solve the problem is acidification of silica scaling using hydroflouric acid (HF). HF has a unique characteristic that is highly reactive with SiO2, easily obtained in the market and cheap. The use of HF can increase the rate of material corrosion in re-injection lines material. The use of HF should be adjusted to the appropriate concentration so it can dissolve silica scale optimally without shortening its life service. The concentration of HF used in the experiment were 5, 10, and 15% wt. The results showed that the optimum concentration of HF in dissolving silica at 15%. This is due to its ability to dissolve the crust mostly greatest than most other concentration that is equal to 21% of the total dissolved silica. The rate of corrosion on the material re-injection line with a concentration of 15% is equal to 0.647 mm/y and provide about 4.63 years life time of pipe.

Abstract

Transportation problem is just like inventory, this is an activity in logistics area. This activity is possible to make some production in one place and to consume them in another place. The aim of this research were to evaluate the existing network distribution model performance and to provide sugestions to proper the network distribution model used. The applied metode to achieve the goal was Nearest Neighbor Algorithm. The results were: (a) Distance saving was 538,2 Km or 26,59%, (b) Distribution time of product could be reduced to 9,37 hours or 19,07%, (c) Fuel cost could be reduced to 403.650 rupiahs or 26,59%, (d) Driver and assistance cost could be saved to 272.850 rupiahs or 4,5%, and (f) Total of distribution cost could be saved to 676.500 rupiahs or 25,71%.

Abstract

Falling film evaporator is a constructed equipment for concentrating dilute solution that are sensitive to heat flowing form a thin film. This research aims to study the evaporation of cane juice concentrated with air flow on falling film evaporator and knowing evaporation rate occured in falling film evaporator used. In the process, cane juice from plant pumped to the falling film evaporator that used in this experiment. This research used concentrated cane juice and air flow rate for variables of this experiment. Cane juice flow from top of evaporator through distributor to form thin film and air flow from the bottom of evaporator. After that, temperatur of pipe wall, inlet and outlet temperature of cane juice and air were measured. This experiment concluded that the highest concentration of outlet solution is 59 brix for liquid flow rate 154 l/h and air flow rate 10 m3/h, and the other hand inlet solution concentration 51 brix. Optimum evaporation rate is 35 kg/m2.h for 51 brix and air flow rate 10 m3/h.

Abstract

The global economic crisis led many companies especially manufacturing companies be through financial distress. Financial distress is a situation where firms in difficulty conditions before be through bankruptcy. Predictions on the financial condition important by manager, auditors, and investors to make policy decisions. The more accurate the predictions were done, the risk are guaranteed getting smaller either by companies or investors. Therefore, this study aimed to design a prediction model of financial distress companies listed on the stock exchange Indonesia. This study uses the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. DEA method used to measure the efficiency of the company. The company that inefficient indicate that the company is threatened with bankruptcy. Ratios of the company’s financial statements are used as data to be processed using the DEA method.

Abstract

Rice bran as rice milling waste is very promising to be used as raw material of oil producer such as biodiesel oil. The production process with the assistant of microwaves has been studied in this research. The production process was carried out in-situ where the extraction process of rice bran oil and the biodiesel formation reaction occur simultaneously in microwave radiation. Rice bran was obtained from Lamongan area with IR 64 type. The reaction was carried out in microwaves that had been modified by variation of operating conditions including reaction times (10, 30 and 50 min) and weight ratio of rice bran to methanol (1:4, 1:8, 1:12, 1:16 and 1:20). The results obtained are then analyzed by product yield and free fatty acid content. The optimum condition is obtained when the highest yield of the product with the lowest free fatty acid. The results showed that the optimum condition was obtained at reaction time of 30 minutes with the ratio of rice bran: methanol at 1:12.

Abstract

PT. XYZ is one of industry that has a potential in green house gas emission that produce negative effect on human and environment. Therefore the study was aimed to investigate how much carbon value produced by PT. XYZ and how is the alternative solution to reduce carbon emission.The study method was based on secondary data such as; electricity, water and fuel consumption for one year taken from January until October 2009. The data was analyzed using CWFP, SEI, and ACM0002 methods for carbon emission value. The solution alternative for reducing carbon emission of PT. XYZ, was compared between electricity, natural gas and coal. It was concluded that, emission carbon value of PT. XYZ is 6.966,69 Tonnes CO2/years. Keywords: carbon emission, emission factor, and bottled water industry.

Abstract

Asbuton is a rock that contain the bitumen. Asbuton can be used as road construction alternatives after extracting bitumen from the mineral. A method for separating bitumen is separation process using hot water medium. The process was carried out in a stirred tank, 200 grams of asbuton was mixed with diesel oil and added by hot chemical solution (surfactant) in the digestion tank. The Separation process in the extractor was made at then the speed of stirrer were set according to the variable and time was set 30 minutes. After the complete process, the mixture was moved into a beaker glass and 500 ml hot water was added. The mixture of diesel oil and bitumen will float in the surface then the density will be measured to determine the bitumen concentration. It can be concluded that concentration of surfactant solution and speed of stirrer gave the significant results. The highest recovery percentage of bitumen is 81,99 %.
