Abstract

This study is to reveal accuracy, recency, legibility,language, and physical appearance the main course material on Animal Food Substance(PANG 4221) by expert perception, lecturers, and students. The result of this study is expected to provide some useful recommendation for the revision of the course material of the Open University (UT). The data were obtained by capturing information from students of UT and non UT. The data obtained were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative methods. In addition, evaluation of the course material delevoped was conducted following the PAU-PPI format. The results the course material has high accuracy, legibility, language, materials, format, print, finishing and binding (score 3-4). However, despite high scores every aspect still needs to be revised because of some in consistencies. The recency, cover design, and content design have the lowest scores (2-3). These aspects must absolutely be revised. It can be concluded that the course material should be revised to include all findings from this study.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to examine the implementation of registration with the billing system, and to analyze the factors that affect the registration with the new system. The study was conducted in three regional centers: Jakarta, Bogor and Serang. The research method is correlational descriptive and it includes different means of data collection, such as questionnaire, observation, and in-depth interview. Total of 206 sample students were selected through purposive sampling from the three locations. The data gathered was analyzed indescriptive statistics and inferential statistics, specifically regression test. The results of the study show that the implementation of billing system registration can minimize cases and problems of registration; and the information about registration together with the role of the study group board (pokjar board), service UPBJJ-UT, UT service center, bank services, and registration monitoring significant affected on the student registration process through the billing system. Penulisan artikel ini menyajikan hasil studi tentang implementasi registrasi dengan billing system serta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Studi dilakukan di tiga Unit Program Belajar Jarak Jauh (UPBJJ-UT), yaitu UPBJJ-UT Jakarta, Bogor, dan Serang. Studi deskriptif korelasional ini mendeskripsikan data berdasarkan perbedaan rata-rata yang diperoleh melalui kuesioner, observasi dan wawancara mendalam. Responden mahasiswa dipilih melalui purposive sampling berjumlah 206 orang. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial (uji regresi). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa billing system dapat meminimalkan masalah-masalah registrasi yang terjadi. Informasi tentang registrasi peran pengurus pokjar, layanan UPBJJ-UT, layanan UT Pusat, layanan bank, dan monitoring registrasi secara bersama-sama berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap proses registrasi mahasiswa melalui billing system.

Abstract

Program Studi Agribisnis di Universitas Terbuka, dibentuk dengan tujuan untuk menghasilkan lulusan yang kompeten di bidang penyuluhan dan komunikasi agribisnis. Salah satu cara untuk mencapai tujuan ini adalah menyusun sebuah kurikulum yang mendorong terbentuknya hard skill dan soft skill lulusan yang relevan dengan tuntutan kompetensi program studi. Hard skill yang akan dimiliki lulusan merupakan aplikasi materi, metode serta evaluasi penyuluhan berbasis agribisnis yang nantinya akan diterapkan di lapangan, yang ditujukan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan sasarannya. Sementara softskill yang perlu dikuasai lulusan meliputi kemampuan-kamampuan berkomunikasi, bekerjasama dalam tim, kepemimpinan, dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Program Studi Agribisnis mengakomodasi pencapaian kompetensi tersebut dengan memasukkan beberapa mata kuliah berpraktikum di dalam kurikulumnya. Hal-hal yang dikaji dalam tulisan ini meliputi perbandingan pengelolaan penyelenggaraan praktikum antara program Penyuluhan Pertanian dan Agribisnis, termasuk kekuatan dan kelemahan masing-masing, berbagai kendala yang terjadi, serta peluang-peluang yang dapat diambil untuk memperbaiki penyelenggaraan praktikum. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan penyelenggaraan praktikum PS Agribisnis pada prinsipnya masih mengadopsi dari pengelolaan penyelenggaraan praktikum yang digunakan Program Studi D3 Penyuluhan Pertanian, dengan keterbatasan-keterbatasan yang ada. Satu hal yang perlu diupayakan ke depannya adalah terbentuknya panduan praktikum yang jelas, serta pembinaan kerja sama dengan instansi lain guna meningkatkan kualitas penyelenggaraan praktikum. The Agribusiness Study Program at Universitas Terbuka, the Indonesian Open University, was created with the goal of producing graduates who are competent in the field of extension and communication of agribusiness. One way to achieve this goal is to create a curriculum that develops competencies in both hard and soft skills that are relevant to the professional demands of graduates. Hard skills to be acquired include the application of methods and skills of agricultural extension that will be applied in the field. Soft skills include competencies such as the ability to communicate, work in teams, leadership, and problem-solving. The Agribusiness Study program allows graduates to acquire key competencies by incorporating some practical courses in its curriculum. This presentation will describe the comparison of practical implementation of the Management between an Agricultural Extension Study Program and the Agribusiness Study Program. The topics discussed in this presentation will address the implementation of practical management skills in the Agricultural Extension and Agribusiness Study Programs, including strengths and weaknesses, various obstacles, and how the obstacles were overcome. The result of study shows that the managing of the practical implementation of PS Agribusiness basicly can be done independently as long as the equipments can be provided as the need in field.

Abstract

The Open University (UT) provided by the educational staff of the Open University (UT) to help students overcome their learning difficulties. This paper focuses on the ability of students in doing the tasks, assigned by the tutor during the online tutorial activities. The study was conducted at the UT course tutorial activities of Environmental Chemistry Subject at the trial period of 2010.2, 2011.1 2011.2, 2012.1 and 2012.2 involving 81students. Data was obtained based on students answers to the assignments/tasks given by the tutor. The indicators used for analysis of students task answer were the students ability in Blooms taxonomy analyzing. The data then was analyzed into qualitative descriptive. Results showed: 1) All students were able to answer well for the ability of memory understanding and comprehension 2). Not all students were capable to reach higher level thinking i.e. analyzing and evaluating in answering the questions given. 3) Students gave positive respon in online tutorial activities and using the "open educational resources". Universitas Terbuka (UT) yang disediakan oleh staf pendidikan dari Universitas Terbuka (UT) untuk membantu siswa mengatasi kesulitan belajar mereka. Makalah ini berfokus pada kemampuan siswa dalam melakukan tugas, yang diberikan oleh guru selama kegiatan tutorial online. Penelitian dilakukan di UT kegiatan program tutorial Kimia Lingkungan Subjek pada masa percobaan 2010.2, 2.011,1 2.011,2, 2.012,1 dan 2.012,2 melibatkan 81 siswa. Data diperoleh berdasarkan jawaban siswa terhadap tugas / tugas yang diberikan oleh tutor. Indikator yang digunakan untuk analisis siswa jawaban tugas yang siswa kemampuan dalam taksonomi Bloom menganalisis. Data kemudian dianalisis menjadi deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Semua siswa mampu menjawab dengan baik untuk kemampuan pemahaman memori dan pemahaman 2). Tidak semua siswa mampu mencapai yang lebih tinggi berpikir tingkat yaitu menganalisis dan mengevaluasi dalam menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang diberikan. 3) Siswa memberikan respon positif dalam kegiatan tutorial online dan menggunakan "sumber daya terbuka pendidikan".

Abstract

One attempt to control the negative effects of television (TV) is to educate parents about the TV media and programs. TV media literacy for parents is needed, so that they as chaperone for their children have the ability to filter messages from TV programs, translate and interpret in accordance with the moral values. This study were aimed to survey media literacy of parents and develop media literacy learning for parents. The populations in this study were the parents of elementary school students of grades 4, 5, and 6 in the South Tangerang for the two districts, namely District of Ciputat and District Setu. Samples were taken purposively of 283 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews of 20 respondents in the activities of Focus Group Discussion. The process consisted of three stages, namely the survey, model development, and testing models. All three phases of activity showed the following results. Most of the respondents were knowledgeable about the TV program, and the values contained in the message of the TV program watched by their children. However, some respondents were misunderstood and unsure about the moral values contained in the TV program, so that their attitudes toward the TV programs watched by their children were loose. The second phase was built a learning model in multimedia package with a video format, which presented snippets of TV programs, and guidances from communication experts and child psychologists. This model is presented to respondents in the first focus group discussion. The next phase, the second focus group discussion was conducted to see changes in knowledge and attitudes of parents after receiving the learning model. The results showed that there were changes in knowledge and attitudes of parents about the TV programs watched by their children.

Abstract

By subject of the Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional, it is hoped that university student will be able to improve their teaching ability. This study aims to analyze the factors related to the effectiveness of subject of the Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional and to analyze the relationship between student characteristics, support facilities, the quantity of coaching, supervisor competence, and competence of the peer review with the effectiveness level of subject of the Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional at UT-UPBJJ Banda Aceh. The article is based on research method used was descriptive-corelational. The research populations wasall students in the FKIP-UT at UPBJJ Banda Aceh within the period of 2012.1, a number of 915 people. Determination of study the sample using Slovin formula. Total sample was 278 students. Sample withdrawal technique is stratified random sampling, a proportional sampling at 15 study groups in the province of Aceh. The data collection was carried out from May until October 2012. Hypothesis testing using the correlation test of Rank Spearman. The research results showed that the competency of supervisor and the competency of the peer review was closely related to the effectiveness level of subject matter of the Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional. Characteristics university student: the average age is 37.5 years, the average length education is 10.3 years, averaging of work experience is 6.7 years; levels of availability of support facilities is the medium category; quantity level coaching is the high category; supervisor competency levels is the medium category, levels of competence of the peer review is the low category. The recommendations can be given: (1) There needs to be training to improve the competence of supervisors. (2) UPBJJ must be establishing cooperation with the Department of Education at the district in recruiting of the peer review with appropriate qualifications and skills. Melalui mata kuliah Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional (PKP), mahasiswa diharapkan memiliki kemampuan mengajar yang semakin mantap. Tujuan penulisan artikel adalah menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan efektivitas mata kuliah PKP; dan menganalisis hubungan karakterisitik mahasiswa, sarana dan prasarana, kuantitas pembimbingan, kompetensi supervisor, dan kompetensi teman sejawat dengan efektivitas mata kuliah PKP pada mahasiswa FKIP di UPBJJ-UT Banda Aceh. Artikel didasarkan pada penelitian deskriptif korelasional. Populasi penelitian adalah semua mahasiswa FKIP-UT di UPBJJ-UT Banda Aceh yang melakukan registrasi mata kuliah PKP untuk masa 2012.1, yaitu sebanyak 915 orang. Penentuan sampel penelitian menggunakan slovin formula. Jumlah sampel adalah 278 mahasiswa. Teknik penarikan sampel adalah secara acak stratifikasi (Stratified Random Sampling), diambil secara proporsional pada 15 Kelompok Belajar (Pokjar) mahasiswa Universitas Terbuka di Provinsi Aceh. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Mei sampai dengan Oktober 2012. Pengujian hipotesis adalah dengan menggunakan analisis uji korelasi Rank Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Karakteristik mahasiswa FKIP-UT di UPBJJ-UT Banda Aceh, yaitu: rataan umur 37,5 tahun, rataan lama pendidikan 10,3 tahun, rataan pengalaman kerja 6,7 tahun; tingkat ketersediaan sarana dan prasarana pada kategori sedang; tingkat kuantitas pembimbingan pada kategori tinggi; tingkat kompetensi supervisor pada kategori sedang; tingkat kompetensi teman sejawat pada kategori rendah, (2) kompetensi supervisor dan kompetensi teman sejawat berhubungan signifikan dengan efektivitas mata kuliah Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional. Rekomendasi yang dapat diberikan: (1) Perlu dilakukan pelatihan/pembekalan secara berkesinambungan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi supervisor mata kuliah Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional. (2) Pihak UPBJJ-UT sebaiknya merintis kerjasama dengan Dinas Pendidikan di kabupaten/kota dalam perekrutan teman sejawat dengan kualifikasi dan kemampuan yang sesuai.

Abstract

Students at Universitas Terbuka especially from Primary Schools Teachers Education program are clustered into study groups. These study groups exist in all UT regional centers. Several study groups are coordinated by a coordinator. The coordinators have important role in managing the students learning activities as well as promoting Universitas Tebuka. Charcteristics of coordinators, factors related to coordinators roles, and their involvement in promoting UT are discussed in this article.

Abstract

The research aims to find out Self Directed Learning Readiness (SDLR) of potential students and prospective students (high school students) to learn by open and distance learning (ODL) in Indonesia. Research conducted by survey method. The population were high school students who are considered grade 12 as a potential candidate ODL student, a freshman, and ODL student at the Open University (UT). SDLR levels were measured by questionnaires Self-Directed Learning Readiness Scale (SDLRS) developed by Guglielmino (1989). The resultsshowedthat the SDLR level ofhigh schoolstudentswere statisticallylower than theSDLR level of UTstudents, bothnew studentsandprevious students. However, there wereno statisticallysignificant differencesbetween theSDLR level ofnew studentsandpreviousstudents ofUT. ScoreSDLRSobtainedshowthat theUTstudenthasaveragelevels ofSDLR. This means thatUTstudentscansuccessfullylearnindependentlybutthey are not very responsibletodeterminelearning needs, plan, implement, andevaluatetheir own learning. UTstudentswhohave theSDLRlevelaboveaverage are over 55years students.

Abstract

Updating learning materials is an activity that must be carried out by UT to ensure the quality accordancing with the development of science and knowledge. The process of updating learning materials involves content experts (external reviewesr), instructional designer experts, and media experts. This article is aimed at  explaining  the instructional design quality associated with clarity, completeness and systematic, as well as consistent and systematic presentation of the learning materials from the standpoint of external experts and students. Expert testimony and input from students showed that the quality of learning materials at FISIP developed by appling the Instructional Design Development Model (MPI) in developing the learning materials has met the standard for autonomous and independent learning activities as well as the structured and guided learning activities Pemutakhiran bahan ajar (BA) merupakan kegiatan yang wajib dilakukan oleh UT untuk menjamin kualitas BA sesuai dengan perkembangan ilmu dan pengetahuan. Proses pemuktahiran materi pembelajaran melibatkan para pakar materi (external reviewers), ahli desain instruksional, dan ahli media. Tulisan ini bertujuan menggambarkan standar kualitas desain instruksional yang mencakup  kejelasan, kelengkapan dan sistematika, serta konsistensi dan kelogisan sistematika penyajian BMP FISIP-UT dari sudut pandang para pakar eksternal dan mahasiswa. Testimoni pakar  dan mahasiswa menunjukkan bahwa kualitas BMP pada FISIP yang dikembangkan dengan menerapkan Model Pengembangan Desain Instruksional (MPI) dalam penulisan BMP, telah memenuhi standar kualitas akademik sehingga  mampu menjamin pencapaian kompetensi mata kuliah dan standar proses pembelajaran mahasiswa yang dilakukan secara mandiri dan independen.

Abstract

A tracer study is intended to know the success of educational process of graduates. The purposes of this study is to describe: (1) the profile of graduates, (2) their learning experience, (3) the quality of their performance, competence and competitiveness, (4) their satisfactionwhen study at Universitas Terbuka (UT), (5) their willingness for further studies, (6) stakeholders perceptions on graduate, and (7) their participation on UT Alumni Association. This study was conducted by a survey of 124 respondents, through questionnaires and interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of tabulated frequencies and percentages. The findings indicated that most respondents have educational background on high school level, GPA below 2.75, with study duration of 8 years, as well as following the lessons at UT for affordability and convenience in carrying out their work. In terms of learning experience , learning material was considered sufficient to provide empirical and practical knowledge. Study at UT was considered as capable of increasing independence and improving skills in applying theory and communication. In the aspect of quality of performance, most stated that they have responsibilities in doing their tasks. Majority considered that their competence was increased, except in using the Internet and foreign language. In the aspect of competitiveness, they claimed a similar quality with other college graduates. Their satisfaction of UT service was considered as good , particularly on credit transfer service and Program Final Task (TAP). Their willingness for further studies was low, but high in attending training activities. The manager considered their learning experience, performance, competencies and competitiveness was good, and stated that their study result had quite impact on their career development . The communication among UT alumni wass still low due to the ineffectiveness of UT alumni association. Tracer study merupakan studi penelusuran terhadap lulusan suatu perguruan tinggi untuk mengetahui keberhasilan proses pendidikan yang telah dilakukan. Tujuan tracer study Program Studi (PS) Agribisnis adalah untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) profil lulusan, (2) pengalaman belajar lulusan, (3) kualitas kinerja, kompetensi dan daya saing lulusan, (4) kepuasan lulusan terhadap sistem belajar di Universitas Terbuka (UT), (5) keinginan lulusan untuk studi lanjut, (6) penilaian stakeholders terhadap lulusan, dan (7) partisipasi lulusan dalam Ikatan Alumni (IKA) UT. Penelitian tracer study dilakukan dengan metode survey terhadap 124 responden, melalui kuesioner dan wawancara. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif, dan disajikan dalam bentuk tabulasi frekuensi dan persentase. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa sebagian besar responden berlatar belakang pendidikan setingkat SLTA, memiliki IPK di bawah 2,75, dengan lama studi 8 tahun, dan mengikuti pembelajaran di UT dengan alasan keterjangkauan biaya dan kemudahan dalam menjalankan pekerjaan. Terkait pengalaman belajar, materi perkuliahan dianggap cukup memberikan pengetahuan empiris dan bersifat praktis. Belajar di UT dianggap mampu memupuk kemandirian serta mengasah keterampilan dalam menerapkan teori dan berkomunikasi. Pada aspek kualitas kinerja, sebagian besar responden menyatakan memiliki tanggung jawab yang baik dalam mengerjakan tugas. Pada aspek kompetensi, sebagian besar responden merasa mengalami peningkatan kompetensi setelah lulus kuliah di UT, kecuali dalam menggunakan internet dan berbahasa asing. Pada aspek daya saing, lulusan mengaku memiliki kualitas yang tidak kalah dengan lulusan perguruan tinggi lain. Kepuasan responden terhadap layanan UT bernilai baik, terutama pada layanan alih kredit dan Tugas Akhir Program (TAP). Keinginan lulusan untuk studi lanjut tergolong rendah, namun untuk mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan tergolong tinggi. Atasan menilai baik terhadap aspek pengalaman belajar, kinerja, kompetensi dan daya saing lulusan. Menurut atasan, hasil studi yang ditempuh lulusan cukup berdampak pada pengembangan karir lulusan di tempat kerja. Adapun komunikasi antar alumni UT masih rendah karena tidak efektifnya keberadaan IKA UT di daerah serta kurangnya pertemuan bersama rekan sesama alumni.
