Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of mind mapping technique applied in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text. In this study, the data collected by using quantitative research through experimental research. The study was carried out in two classes; the experimental class and the controlled class. The data were collected through tests which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test. The result of the study showed that using mind mapping technique is effective in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text The gained score of the experimental class (28.46) is higher than the controlled class (21.34). from the result of statistic calculation, it is obtained that the value of t-observation (to) is 2.39 and the degree of freedom (df) is 50. In the table of significance 5%, the value of degree of significance is 2.00. comparing those values, the result is 2.39 > 2.00 which means t-observation (to) score is higher than t-table (tt) score. In other word, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, teaching reading comprehension of narrative text by using mind mapping technique is effective.

It takes two classes as the sample, VIII A as the control group and VIII B as the experimental group. The writer uses test to get the accurate data. After conducting this research, the writer found the highest score is 92 and the lowest one is 68 from the data of the experimental group. The mean of the whole scores is 75.24 and the standard deviation is 6.60. Meanwhile, for the control group, the writer found the highest score is 78 and the lowest one is 60. The mean of the whole scores is 68.93 and the standard deviation is 5.16. Thus, in order to compete in this millennial era, teaching staff need to practice and improve their English with the basic knowledge of speaking and how to apply it in learning. Furthermore, the university should hold an English course for teaching staff, so the teaching staff can apply English in the classroom. Thus, the teaching staff can make the foreign students become more comfortable and understand in the classroom.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the mistake buster technique in improving students’ grammar mastery at eight grade students of SMP Islam Pecangaan. In this research, the writer used quantitative approach in the form true experimental design. The population of this research was eight grades of SMP Islam Pecangaan and the samples of this research were VIII A as experimental class and VIII B as control class of SMP Islam Pecangaan. In experimental class was taught by using Mistake Buster Technique while in control class was taught by using conventional technique. Random sampling was choosing as the technique of sampling. Then, the instrument of this research was test. The test was pre-test and post-test. This research consisted of five meetings with three treatments. The result of this research showed that the mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 61,61. After giving the treatment, it became 91,25. Then, the mean score of pre-test in control class was 55,62 and the post-test was 75,63. It showed that the score pre-test and post-test in experimental class was higher than control class. It means that the use of mistake buster technique was effective to increase students’ understanding about grammar. Besides that, the score of tobserve was 2,057 while the score of  ttable in 5% significance level was 2,009 . So, it showed the significant of tobserve > 5% = 2,057 > 2,009. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. There was an effectiveness of mistake buster technique to improve students’ grammar mastery at eight grade students of SMP Islam Pecangaan.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find the effectiveness of using Station Rotation model to improve students’ reading skill achievement, especially for recount text at the tenth grade students of MA NU Mu’allimat Kudus academic year 2017/2018. The subjects of this research were 80 students. Experimental research was used as a method in this research. The research was conducted in two group, they are the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group was students which were taught by Station Rotation model, while the control group was students which were taught without Station Rotation model.  The data were gathered through tests which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test. The result of the research showed that Station Rotation model is effective to use in teaching reading skill in recount text. Gained score of the experimental group (19.7) is higher than the control group (9.6). From the result of statistic calculation, it was obtained that the value of t-observation (to) is 3.97 and degree of freedom (df) is 78. In the table of significance 5%, the value of degree of significance is 1.99. Comparing those values, the result is 3.97 > 1.99 which means t-observation (to) score is higher that t-table (tt) score. In other words, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, teaching reading skill in recount text by using Station Rotation model is effective.
