Abstract

The research about formulation emulgel of mulberry (Morus alba) ethanol extract with various concentrations of emulsifier span and tween 80® has been conducted. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of emulsifier (2, 3, 4, and 5%) which resulted stable formulation. Stability testing was performed under two conditions, before and after accelerated storage for 10 cycles with physical parameters include: organoleptic, homogeneity, dispersive power, adhesion, pH and viscosity. The results of showed that all parameters change after accelerated storage, but only F3 showed no significantly difference in before and after storage.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai uji aktivitas ekstrak kulit batang jamblang (Syzygium cumini) dengan variasi beberapa pelarut sebagai antihiperglikemik pada tikus putih. Tujuannya dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas berbagai ekstrak kulit batang S.cumini terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah pada tikus putih (Rattus novergicus). Penelitian ini terbagi dalam 5 kelompok: Kontrol negative diberi Na-CMC; kontrol positif diberikan glibenklamid; kelompok 3-5 secara berturut-turut diberikan ekstrak etanol 70%, n-heksan, dan etil asetat. Peningkatan kadar glukosa darah diinduksio oleh aloxan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua ekstrak mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah akan tetapi ekstrak etanol yang berbeda secara signifikan terhadap semua kelompok perlakukan.

Abstract

Malaria and tuberculosis are two diseases with high prevalence in Indonesia. The treatment has a problem because some types of plasmodium and mycobacterium resistance with antituberculosis and antimalarials which are used today. To solve this problem, exploration to create a new drug must be done. Kayu jawa (Lannea coromandelica [Houtt.] Merr.) is one of the plants commonly used as a traditional medicine for curing malaria and tuberculosis. This research aimed to explore the antimalaria dan antituberculosis of L. Coromandelica. The procedure begins with the extraction of stem bark with methanol, then partitioned by solid-liquid extraction to found soluble and insoluble hexane partitions. Both extract and partitions were tested for anti-plasmodium activity by Desjardins method and antituberculosis by MODS method. The result showed that all samples can inhibit Mycobacterium tuberculosis growth and also Plasmodium falciparum. In conclusion, L. Coromandelica has a potential to developed as antimalaria and antituberculosis drug.

Abstract

Black soybean (Glycine soja Linn. Sieb.) contain flavonoid compounds known as isoflavones. Isoflavones are kind of flavonoid which is the highest antioxidative activity exhibited by the isoflavones aglycones, especially genistein. Isoflavone glycosides containt in G. soja can be hydrolyzed to be aglycone (genistein) using an acid. The aim if this research was to investigate the antioxidant activity of the hydrolyzed G. soja extract that was obtained by β-carotene bleaching method. The result showed that the hydrolyzed G. soja extract has the value of antioxidant activity 42.8% and 81.1% for the standards solution of quercetin. Therefore, it can conclude that the hydrolyzed G. soja extract has the efficacy as an antioxidant.

Abstract

A research on the antimicrobial activity assay of leaf extract of Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) by disk diffusion method then continued to TLC-bioautography has been done. Moringa leaves macerated using ethanol 70%. The antimicrobial activity on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus which was resistant to antibiotics cultured Mueller Hinton Agar by agar diffusion method. The results showed that moringa leaf extract began to inhibit the growth of S. aureus and E. coli at a concentration 100 mg/mL (d= 6.80 mm) and 50 mg/mL (9.20 mm). Identification of common compounds by TLC showed the extract contain alkaloids, steroids, terpenes, phenolics, and flavonoids, and terpenoid active in TLC-bioautography.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapat formula yang stabil secara fisik dan efektif sebagai anti aging dari albumin yang diisolasi dari putih telur. Albumin hasil isolasi diformulasikan kedalam bentuk gel dengan 3 variasi konsentrasi: F1 (1%), F2 (2%), dan F3 (3%). Evaluasi fisik dilakukan sebelum dan setelah penyimpanan terkondisi dalam climatic chamber, dua suhu berbeda 5 dan 35°C setiap 12 jam, 75% RH, dan 10 siklus. Sementara untuk uji efektifitas dilakukan pada 3 probandus berumur diatas 30 tahun, tidak mempergunakan kosmetik lain dan tidak menunjukkan reaksi alergi pada putih telur. Gel dioleskan pada punggung tangan kiri sementara disisi yang lain tanpa diolesi krim. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua formula stabil secara fisik akan tetapi F3 (3%) menunjukkan potensi sebagai anti anging dan berbeda secara nyata dengan formula yang lain (p> 0,05). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa albumin yang terisolasi dari butih telur dapat diformulasikan menjadi gel yang berkhasiat anti anging.

Abstract

Alang-alang (Imperata cylindrica L) is a plant thatis used as fodder. This plant contain a high cellulose content 96,7%, which can be used as the manufacture of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The purpose of this study to synthesize the carboxymethyl cellulose from the isolation of coarse grass (Imperata cylindrica L). Na.CMC of coarse grass (Imperata cylindrica L) obtained by alkalization of cellulose with sodium hydroxide in the solvent isopropyl alcohol in submitting etherification using sodium chloro acetate. Results of qualitative testing color identification with reactant molischshowed positive resuls, analysis formed muchilagform, a o white swelling, viscocity 8Cp, pH of 6 with a purity of 95.8%, flame test Na+ are marked with a yellow flame and FTIR results showed the wave number 3442 cm-1 -OH group, 2918 cm-1 CH , 1647 cm-1 group C = O, 1265cm-1 CO group and 894 cm-1 is CH that is the Na.CMC the synthesis.

Abstract

Bay (Eugenia polyantha Wight.) leaf and soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaf contain flavonoids that have a protective effect on endothelial function as an anti-hypertensive while jasmine flower has a good odor. This study aims to formulate herbal tea bags from bay leaf, soursop leaf, and jasmine flower into tea bag that qualified physical evaluation. The dried leaves of each sample were putted in bag with various concentration then observe the physical characteristics. The result shows that tea bag was qualified according to SNI 01-4324-1996. The water content was 9.46% - 11.94%, total plate count (TPC) however mold and yeast counts (MYC) were 3 x 103 colonies/g and 1 x 104 colonies/g, respectively. However, FA was preferred by the panelists based on its color, odor and taste.

Abstract

Indonesia memiliki banyak tanaman yang digunakan sebagai obat salah satunya adalah belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya aktivitas antibakteri dari buah A. bilimbi dan untuk mengetahui golongan senyawa kimia aktif dari buah A. bilimbi terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus secara KLT-Bioautografi. Buah A. bilimbi diekstraksi dengan metode maserasi menggunakan cairan penyari etanol 96% sedangkan metode difusi agar dilakukan untuk mengetahui aktivitas bakteri. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa ekstrak etanol dan partisi buah A. bilimbi pada konsentrasi 10% dapat menghambat bakteri E. coli dan S. aureus. Identifikasi senyawa kimia aktif dari ekstrak etanol yang diduga mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri terhadap E. coli dan S. aureus secara KLT-Bioautografi secara berturut-turut yaitu senyawa terpenoid pada Rf = 0,11 dan 0,81. Sedangkan partisi n-heksana yaitu terpenoid yang dapat hanya mampu menghambat E. coli pada nilai Rf 0,78. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak buah A. Bilimbi dapat digunakan sebagai alternative dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri.

Abstract

Using gallons as a main source of drinking water are increasing. Gallon packs are composed of plastic polymers that will decompose in sunlight exposure. This study aims to analyze the levels of formaldehyde residues in refill circulating in the Daya, Makassar, South Sulawesi. Formalin residues are determined by Schiff’s reagent. The results showed that 7 from 12 gallon contained formalin derivatives with a serius level (16.45 µg/mL).
