Abstract

This study aims to analyze the current state of ex-transmigration villages and regional policy makers' perceptions regarding transmigration's existence and sustainability. The study was conducted in Jambi Province. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Primary data collection was carried out through Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with policymakers at the provincial and district levels. According to the study’s results, the implementation of the transmigration program in addition to showing various successes also resulted in a number of negative excesses for the destination areas. These negative excesses are mainly related to the disparity between the transmigration area and its surrounding area, the low leverage of the transmigration area on the surrounding area, and the potential emergence of poverty in the transmigration area. Related to this, future revitalization of the transmigration program must focus on the development of transmigration areas that are functionally related to the surrounding area, based on the expertise required by the local area, and increasing the role of the community and private sector in the diversification transmigrant business patterns.

Grape vines are cultivated in South Tangerang City, not only by farmers, but also by members of a grape community. This research aimed 1) to describe the characteristics of grape farmers, 2) to show the perspective of grapes farmer, and 3) to identify problems and expectations in carrying out grape vines cultivation in South Tangerang City. Data collected through the interview, observation and sharing questionnaires. The number of samples was determined proportionally to 68 grape farmers, who are members of the grape community in South Tangerang City (KAT). The results showed that grape farmers tended to be knowledgeable and educated, specified by productive age (20-40 years old) with less experiences in grape cultivation. Based on the perspective analysis, farmers were attracted to grape farming not because of the influence of farm-families background, but because of hobbies and self interest in grapes cultivation. Farmers considered that agriculture was a noble and a matter of pride. The most common problems facing grape farmers were the insufficient land, inadequate agricultural funding base, and formulating the ideal growing media. The results of the expectation analysis proved that training program was the most desired assistance for farmers, especially effort to increase grape productivity.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze lowland rice farming income and analyze the optimization of the use of production factors to achieve lowland rice farming efficiency in Telaga district, Gorontalo regency. This study was conducted from September to October 2021 by survey and interview, while the sampling used a simple random method. The data sources were both primary and secondary in type, while the data analysis used to examine the rice farming income used qualitative descriptive analysis. Further, the means to examine the optimization level of the production factor usage employed Cobb-Douglas analysis and Product Marginal Value. The findings showed the income average for a growing season reached Rp. 37.217.960 ha./GS., while the analysis results revealed the Revenue of Cost Ratio for farming achieved 2.14. Hence, the area is deemed feasible. Land area (X1), Seeds (X2), Fertilizer (X3), Pesticides (X4), and Labor (X5) had simultaneous effects on the income, but partially only fertilizer (X3) variable did not effect on the income. The use of production factors of land area, pesticides, and labor was not optimal because the optimization value obtained NMPxi 1, which means the need for reuse. Meanwhile, the use of seeds and urea fertilizer was not optimal yet because the optimization value obtained NMPxi 1, which means its usage needs improving to provide optimal interest for farmers at the research site.

Abstract

The change in land tenure and the shrinking size of agricultural land in Indonesia are recurring discussion topics. For farming to be sustainable, higher profit must be gained, particularly as a backup in the increasing number of small farms. This study aims to examine the farming practices of curly red chili at three farming scale levels: large-scale, mid-scale, and small farms. The observations, surveys, and interviews were conducted to obtain curly red chili production data during the wet season (December 2021 - March 2022) in Megamendung Sub-district. The farm parameters were presented descriptively; conversely, the farm's efficiency was measured using the R/C ratio of explicit cost and implicit costs. As many as 30 farmers are chosen using a purposive sampling technique. The study revealed that the profits gained by farmers depend on the farms scale with the largest share of large-scale farms, followed by mid-scale and small farms, whose R/C ratios on explicit cost were 9.50, 9.03, and 7.50, respectively. Mid-scale farms benefit from the high selling prices of the selected marketing channels; on the other hand, large-scale farms benefit from efficient production factors. Evidence shows that small farms may utilize both production factors and distribution channels less effectively. It is important for the government to consider implementing land consolidation for fragmented land like this. Land consolidation will assist farmers in the process of managing land and production systems in groups to make efficient use of farming production factors.
