Abstract

This research aims to figure out the facts of the objective conditions of the curriculum implementation at Tarbiyah Faculty IAIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The curriculum evaluation used the Evaluation Programme for Innovative Curriculum (EPIC) Model, consisting of three components namely: 1) instruction, 2) institutional, and 3) learning achievement. This research used an evaluative programme to make judgments and decisions of a programme or curriculum. The evaluation results for these three components are: (1) instruction: learning burdens and lecturers’ quality are good, but there are still many errors in the presentation, coding, credits of institutional courses, faculty courses, and study program courses, low in task variation, low in the number of hours of meetings, many mistakes in curriculum structure, and low in facilities and infrastructure, (2) institutional: entrance tests for the students of Tarbiyah Faculty IAIN Raden Fatah do not include aptitude tests, lecturers who have magister qualification is good, but low on doctoral qualification, and ratio between lecturers to students is not ideal, (3) learning achievement: students’ mastery of teaching skills and attitudes is good, but very low in the mastery of pedagogical skills and teacher education. Recommendations of this research are 1) revise curriculum, 2) use the aptitude test to select new students, 3) increase academic qualifications of lecturers, and 4) revise comprehensive examination system.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of formative assessment and learning approach to the mathematics learning outcome after controlling the numerical aptitude. It was a quasi-experiment with a sample of 186 students obtained by using multistage random sampling technique with 2x2 factorial designs. The data were analyzed by ANCOVA. After controlling the numerical aptitude, the results are: the mathematics learning outcome of the students who followed a contextual approach was better than the ones who followed a conventional learning approach, the mathematics learning outcome of the students who were given a performance assessment was better than the ones who were given a conventional assessment, the interaction between the learning approach and formative assessment affected the students learning outcome for mathematics, the students who followed a contextual learning approach were more suitable to be given a performance assessment, whereas the ones who followed a conventional learning approach were more appropriate to be given a conventional assessment. Based on the research findings, junior high school teachers are suggested to improve their students learning outcome for mathematics. Then, teachers need to use a learning approach and formative assessment accurately and correctly.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop an instrument that can be used to measure higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in mathematics instructional of high school students. This research was conducted using a standard procedure of instrument development, from the development of conceptual definition, development of operational definitions, determination constructs, dimensions, and indicators, to the preparation of blue print, item preparation, expert validation, and testing. Data results from trials be analyzed using factor analysis and analysis of structural equation modeling (SEM). The data analysis shows that there are 9 factors HOTS that construct the instrument with good validity and reliability. This instrument classifies high school students in the five categories of HOTS ability. HOTS grouping results can be used by various interested institutions to evaluate the instructional of mathematics. These evaluations are used to determine the success of student learning and the success of teachers' teaching.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of PMRI implementation organized by FKIP UNSRI Palembang at two elementary schools in Palembang. It was an evaluation research by Frechting’s Logic Model and by context component as complementary. Triangulation used as credibility test to check the validity of data. Data source triangulation was done to the PMRI central team, PMRI local team, principals, teachers, and students. Meanwhile, data collection techniques triangulation was gotten from questionnaires, interviews, and document observations. Model analysis applied in this research was qualitative. The result of research gave conclusion that the PMRI implementation by FKIP UNSRI has been quite effective. There were several things that have not been appropriate with PMRI standards i.e. the preparation of teaching materials in SDN 98 did not run optimally because the school used regulated thematic teaching materials by provincial government and some teachers did not use evaluation system with PMRI standards.

Abstract

The study was aimed to find out the influence of problem-based learning strategies and scoring models towards mathematics achievement by controlling students’ intelligence. The research method used in this study is an experimental method. Meanwhile, the design used in this research was the factorial design of 2×2 and research hypotheses were tested by using covariant of analysis (ANCOVA). The participants of this study were 100 students from tenth grade in SMAN 55 and SMAN 60 Jakarta. The study concluded that after controlling students’ intelligence: (1) mathematics achievements of the students who were given the problem posing strategy was higher than that of those who were given the problem solving strategy, (2) mathematics achievements of the students who were given the correct score model was higher than that of those who were given the punishment score model, (3) there was an interaction effect between problem-based learning strategies and scoring models towards mathematics achievement, (4) especially for groups of students who were given Problem Posing Strategy, mathematics achievement of the students who were given the correct score model was higher than that of those who were given the punishment score model, (5) especially for groups of students who were given problem solving strategy, mathematics achievement of the students who were given the correct score model was lower than that of those who were given the punishment score model, (6) especially for groups of students who were given the correct score model, mathematics achievement of the students who were given problem posing strategy was higher than that of those who were given the problem solving strategy, and (7) especially for groups of students who were given the punishment score model, mathematics achievement of the students who were given the problem posing strategy is lower than that of those who given the problem solving strategy. Thus, it can be recommended to the teachers to use the problem posing strategy and the correct score model.
