Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between vocabulary skills and news text writing skills. The study involved a sample of class VIII students at SMP Kartika 1-5 Pekanbaru. The research is quantitative, using correlation as the method. The data used consists of objective tests and performance evaluations. The results of the data analysis indicate that the student's vocabulary mastery level was classified as good, with an average of 74.636, while their ability to write news texts was also classified as good, with an average of 77.634. The data analysis reveals a significant relationship between vocabulary skills and news text writing skills. This relationship is evident from the correlation coefficient value tested using the Pearson product-moment correlation formula. The calculations demonstrate that the value of the count is 0.962, which is greater than r table (0.2681), indicating a genuine correlation between variable X and variable Y. According to the interpretation table for correlation levels, this falls into the high category, within the scale of 0.80-1.00. Hypothesis testing using the t-test and f-test, with a 95% confidence level and degrees of freedom (dk) = n-2, yielded values of 4.761 > 1.675 and 653.343 > 4.02, respectively. Therefore, H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted, as the hypothesis testing results prove a significant positive correlation of 96.2% between vocabulary skills and news text writing skills among class VIII students of SMP Kartika 1-5 Pekanbaru. Keywords: ability, vocabulary, writing news text.

Abstract

The research was motivated by the numerous movie adaptations of novels that capture public interest. During the process of adapting a novel into a movie, the director makes certain modifications. One such instance is the adaptation of the novel Thank You Salma into the movie Dear Nathan: Thank You Salma. These alterations give rise to both similarities and differences between the novel and the film. The objective of this research is to describe the process of adapting the novel Thank You Salma by Erisca Febriani into the film Dear Nathan: Thank You Salma, directed by Kuntz Agus. The research methodology employed is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques involve reading, watching, and taking notes. First, the researchers read the novel. Second, they watched the film to observe and document the process of adaptation. Lastly, the researchers recorded the similarities and differences between the novel and the film, specifically about the adaptation process. The findings reveal that the movie entailed reductions in the plot, characters, and setting, as well as additions to these aspects. Additionally, there were various changes made to the plot, setting, place, and characterization. Furthermore, there were similarities in themes, points of view, language style, and the underlying message conveyed in both the novel and the movie. Despite these changes, the movie successfully attracted a wide audience and received positive feedback on social media, as it addressed social issues related to sexual harassment against women.

Abstract

Character formation can be integrated not only into learning materials but also into the learning methods that we choose and use. The game method is also a method that we can design for conveying material as well as building and shaping children's character. Especially for elementary school students, the game method is definitely liked by children. If psychologically the child is happy in learning, then knowledge and character values can be easily accepted by the child, which also makes it easier for the teacher to direct the social values and positive values of each game. This article examines the socio-epistemological philosophy of the game method in elementary school. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods, interviews, and FGD techniques. The participants in this study were elementary school teachers in Jakarta. The language game method studied is a game that has an impact on learning, both to improve results and to shape the social character of students. The purpose of this study is to further examine the sociological impact of the game method. It is this sociological impact that will shape students from elementary school into people who are humane and have social character.
