Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism and hospitality sector was the sector that suffered the most losses. Some hotels began to bankrupt, so they had to prepare various strategies to survive. One of the plans is to lay off some employees, leave them unpaid, and terminate their employment with an honorary employee. One of the rules created was Large-Scale Social Restriction. The management hotel also implements PSBB policies and creates new regulations for its workers to make the hotel exists. The goals of this study are (1) to know HRD policies in maintaining employee performance before and after the COVID-19 pandemic; (2) to find out the effect of the new policies created by HRD on their employees during the COVID-19 pandemic; (3) to find out the hotel targets after the COVID-19 pandemic ends. Researchers used qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used were interviews with HRD managers of four to five-star hotels and journal reviews. The results show that HRD makes rules by implementing health protocols. HRD also minimizes expenses by laying off employees with low levels of performance, using an outsourced workforce, and reducing electricity and water consumption on some floors that are not functioning or temporarily closed. During this pandemic, employees need to work multitasking so that the hotel provides training both online and offline. The hotel management hopes that after this pandemic ends, the hotel can bounce back with the occupancy rate and restaurant visitors increasing, guests can hold large-scale events at the hotel. Abstract

Even though community participation was a crucial component of sustainable tourism, actual community participation was hard to achieve in developing countries. Only a few studies explored the local community participation in tourism villages. In response to this gap, this article explored owners’ participation to sustain their homestays. The research was built on descriptive and qualitative methods. The data were gathered by semi-structured interviews, participant observation, field notes, and photography. A sample population (6 persons) that include rural people and managers from a village. The result showed that cleanliness awareness was the homestay owners’ fundamental problem. The study also revealed that the homestay owners had not elaborated on their cultural uniqueness to create an unforgettable experience. They tried hard to design their homestays based on their knowledge rather than visitors’ demands. The external parties’ intervention, such as scholars, had to support the homestay owners to gain new insight into hospitality attitudes. Keywords: Community Involvement, Empowerment, Local Wisdom

Abstract

This study aims to develop learning methods in online culinary practice classes using MOOC (Massive Open Online Class). This research is descriptive exploratory with qualitative methods to find out stakeholders' weaknesses, strengths, and expectations for an effective MOOC design in online culinary practice classes. Stakeholders consist of students, permanent lecturers, part-time lecturers, and experts spread across all regencies/cities in East Java and other regions in Indonesia. The study results concluded that the MOOC design was able to meet the expectations of stakeholders, namely that practicum classes could be delivered effectively even though the duration was less than the classes before the new normal era. An effective MOOC means that all components must be planned holistically for both lecturers and students, but lecturers are also obliged to complete the teaching components before learning begins. Starting with determining the theme as a focus, then designing teaching methods supported by giving assignments, assessments, and feedback. This component must have a conducive learning atmosphere, which requires full cooperation and trust between lecturers and students. The overall MOOC plan should be visualized and communicated regularly from the first week of learning. Keywords: Online, Blended Learning, Project-Based Learning, Practical, Culinary
