Abstract

Introduction: Rubber dam is the standard of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) when dentist carrying out endodontic treatment. Dentists who do not use rubber dam indicates that they do not understand cross infection, the need to protect patients from aspiration or ingestion of instruments, the protection provided by the dentist from aerosols and the success rate that decreases when strict asepsis is not performed. In endodontic treatment a fast, simple and effective method of the rubber dam application has been developed. Conclusion: Using rubber dam improves the safety of patients and convenience for dentists during endodontic treatment so it can increase the prognosis in treated teeth.

Abstract

GIC is one of the dental materials that has unique properties so that it can be useful as a restoration material and luting material. It has properties such as the ability of this material to chemically bind dentine and enamel through ion exchange mechanisms, as well as the ability to carry out ion exchange with the remaining tooth structure. This leads to the release of fluorideandotherionsinthelongtime, sothismaterialcanpreventcaries.Sinceitsdevelopment,GIChasincreasinglybecome an important part of dental practice to provide care that can maintain tooth structure, remineralize, and maintain aesthetics. GIC nano resin modification is a new development of GIC material that gives natural ionomer glass restoration, enhances aesthetics, provides strength and resistance to wear. This paper is aimed to explain the benefits of combining nano particles into glass ionomer powder in terms of the aspects of antimicrobial activity, their biocompatibility aspects, mechanical and physical aspects, as well as their composition and manipulation.

Abstract

Effective communication between doctors and patients is one of the most important competencies and must be mastered by doctors. Communication competence determines successful in helping to resolve patient health. Effective communication can reduce patient doubt, and increase patient compliance. Doctors and patients alike benefit fromsharing in close relationships. Each party feels understood. The patient feels safe and protected if the doctor who handles it does the best for his patient. When connected to each other, the doctor can understand and react better to changes in behavior and attention to patients at all times. Effective communication between doctors and patients is needed to obtain optimal results, in the form of health problems that can be resolved and the recovery of patients. Neurolingustic programming (NLP) is a process of change by intervening(programming)onprogramsinthemind(neurons)usinglanguage.MedialanguageisusedpredominantlyinNLP because the intervention process is essentially a process of communication between parts (parts) within us so that it is aligned with the direction of change we want. Because of the close connection between the mind and this language, the neuron and linguistic words are always written in a neurolinguistic way.

Abstract

Background:TheprevalenceofmalocclusioninIndonesiaisstillveryhigh,around80%ofIndonesianpopulation.Oneofthe causes of malocclusion is the bad habit of the oral cavity (non-nutritive sucking). The existence of bad habits that are usually done in children, especially at the age of 3 years can continue to the emergence of abnormalities such as the occurrence of malocclusion. Objective: To find out the relationship non-nutritive sucking towards malocclusion to children aged 3-5 years. Method: This study used analytical observational method with a cross sectional study design with 35 children samples had sedative habit. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. Result: The relationship with the correlation test between children who had a non-nutritive sucking habit aged 3-5 years with malocclusion severity showed significant results (p < 0.05). The correlation between the two is 0.496 which means that it is a moderate correlation. The results of the influence test with linear regression test between the duration of the assault and the occurrence of malocclusion show significant results having an effect (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between children aged 3–5 years who have a non-nutritive sucking habits to the occurrence of malocclusion. The longer the duration of pressing, the higher the severity of the malocclusion.

Abstract

Ameloblastoma and other odontogenic tumors, specifically ameloblastic fibroma and ameloblastic fibro-odontoma are conditionsofbenigntumorsoriginatingfromtheodontogenicapparatus.Ameloblastomasaretumorsofodontogenic epithelial origin, while the other two odontogenic tumors originate from involvement of the ephitelial layer and the ectomesenchymal layer.Radiographicexaminationofameloblastoma, ameloblasticfibroma, and ameloblastic fibro-odontoma provides several variations in the description of internal structures that vary according to the lesions type. Radiographic examinations of ameloblastoma, ameloblastic fibroma, and ameloblastic fibro-odontoma provides several variations in the description of internalstructuresthatvaryaccordingtotype. This literaturere view aim stodistinguish the three cases based on the description of specific internal structures seen in the results of radiographic examinations. It is found that there are differences in the picture of the internal structure of ameloblastoma, ameloblastic fibroma and ameloblastic fibro-odontoma. Ameloblastoma appears unilocular and multilocular radiolucent with distinctive patterns such as honeycomb, soap bubble, and web spiders. The internal structure of ameloblastoma is similar to ameloblastic fibroma, but can be distinguished from other radiographic features. Whereas ameloblastic fibro-odontomas are more specifically differentiated from their internal structures. It was concluded that there are differences in the internal structure of ameloblastoma with radiographically, ameloblastic fibroma and ameloblastic fibro-odontoma.

Abstract

Background: Osteomyelitis is an inflammation of bone marrow, caused by microorganisms, developed from odontogenic infection, and usually also affects the cortical bone and periosteum. There are several classifications of the osteomyelitis, according to the affected anatomy, acute and chronic, suppurative and non-suppurative. The treatment of the osteomyelitis is surgery and antibiotic therapy. Objective: A case report of a management of chronic osteomyelitis came from odontogenic infection. Case: A-39-years old male patient who came to the hospital, presented complaining of pain and swelling of the right mandibular region for 1 year. From the dental history, tooth on the right lower jaw had been extracted about two years ago. Osteomyelitis had developed from odontogenic infection. On examination, there was an asymmetrical face, right-sided facial swelling and an extraoral fistula, edentulous at 46 and 47 regions. Panoramic radiograph showed radiolucent regions which surround aportion of dense bone. Management: The treatment were sequstrectomy and fistulectomy which performed under general anesthesia. Conclusion: A sequestrectomy is a surgical intervention in treatment of the chronic osteomyelitis to remove the necrotic bone, improve the blood supply in the involved area thereby allowing adequate penetration of antibiotic.
