Abstract

This article is aimed at discussing the concept of moral and character of professional doctor pursuant to Islamic perspective. Method used for the study is content analysis, an approach in qualitative research. Data was obtained through reading of various theories and postulates proposed by experts and previous researches regarding to profession of doctors in Islamic perspectives. The data was collected, reduced, presented, and ended with a conclusion of thematic analysis approach. It is found that there are nine characters of an ideal doctor pursuant to Islamic perspective, namely, i) possessing good Aqeedah and embracing true faith, ii) being sincere and diligent in performing work, iii) skillful in his profession and specialization, iv) being honest in attitude and work, v) sensitive and caring, vi) raising optimism for patients, vii) stylish and respectful, viii) possessing good moral and noble characters, ix) and being respectful, helpful  and humble. The article is expected to be references for Muslim doctors and medical practitioners as well as to be an idea of other researchers to develop the study regarding to the identical issues yet in different context.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the correlation between students’ ability to memorize the Qur’an and students’ learning achievement in the subject of al-Quran and hadiths. To achieve the objective, the study utilized quantitative method under the frame of correlational design involving seventy eleventh grade students who took al-Qur’an hadiths subject. To collect the data,  the study utilized questionnaires. The obtain data were then analyzed by using correlation analysis technique through SPPS 20.0 software. The results showed that the ability to memorize the Qur'an has a significant correlation with the students’ learning achievement in the subject of al-Qur'an hadith. It is evidenced in the results of analysis that the two variables were correlated around 52.3% with a determination coefficient of 0.523 and a significance level (ρ) of 0.000. The students who have the ability to memorize the Qur’an have strong memories, good attention to details and brilliant thoughts because the students may have a lot of practice in matching the verses in the Qur’an with their memorization or recitation,. Therefore, it is expected that by increasing their ability in memorizing the Qur’an, the students can improve their learning achievement in the subject of al-Qur'an hadith since it uses Arabic as the Qur'an does.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the function extention of the mosque as a means of education for scholars and Muslim students’ formation in Indonesia. This study used qualitative method with descriptive study approach. All data was taken through interview to forty-four informants consisting of students, lecturers and administrators of mosques in two provinces which are Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) and East Java, to strengthen the data, the authors also conducted direct observation to the object of research. Overall results showed that there are six functions of mosques in those two provinces, namely, means of worship, religious education, scientific discussions, entrepreneurship studies, literary studies as well as studies related to art. Referring to the results of this study, which means that the function of the mosque today is no longer just a place of religious worship muslims rituals, but also serves as a means of society development activities in various fields and expertise. According to thee writer this needs to be emulated because in the context of Islam, the mosque should be the center of activity for the Muslims advancement. The concept of the mosque as the central activity of Muslims basically has exemplified by Prophet Muhammad in early Islam development in the medina. The results can also be a reference by other mosque administrators in managing the function of the mosque from being used as a means of worship only.

Abstract

This study aims to see how the school management in developing the character of students in one of the boarding school in West Sumatera. This study uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Sources of data were taken to 38 informants consisting of 8 elements of the school namely the principal, teacher, boarding supervisor, security and cleaning service, canteen keeper, students and parents. All data obtained by in-depth interviews with all informants, the authors also took data through direct observation at the research site. Overall the results of the study show that there are seven character values instilled by the school, namely religious character, curiosity, discipline, confidence, responsibility, independence and honesty. The seven character values are instilled through twelve activities such as tahsin and tahfidzd Al-Quran, worship services, prayers in congregation, learning clinics, training and guidance, Arabic and English communication programs in the dormitory, motivation, joint sports, mutual cooperation and daily activities. Character building design as implemented by the school, it turns out that it is able to change the behavior of students in a more positive direction such as manners, discipline, obedience to worship, obedient to the rules, clean and tidy life, daring to appear, regular life, and honest behavior. This means that the school has succeeded in fostering the character education of students through various activities and all these activities are well planned by the cooperation of all elements of the school. The author considers the design to be emulated by other schools as a guide in fostering the character of students

Abstract

Islamic studies in public university are merely learnt by college students during one term, meanwhile, the Islamic studies is indeed expected to form the intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual intelligences. However, these intelligence’s types are not easy to be reached in a relatively short time since the deep study is required to be done to view the progress. In relation toward this research, the researcher only focuses to the discussion of the achievement aspect of social brilliance after finishing the Islamic studies. This research used the quantitative method by using survey as a rapprochement. The source of the data was taken through questionnaire that was filled in by four hundred students who had accomplished their studies in one of the public universities in Indonesia. The data were then analyzed descriptively by using SPSS 18.0 version. Overall, the research’s result depicted those Islamic studies during study has been able to form six of social intelligence and they are 1) increasing the attitude to help each other, 2) appreciating the other people’s view, 3) behaving well, 4) speaking politely, 5) being able to keep the relationship with new friends, and 6) respecting the older people. From this research, it can be concluded that although the students studied the Islamic studies concisely, otherwise the result showed that the students had righteous impression and it was capable to construct the student’s social intelligence, as it is known that the social intelligence is one of the key success to accomplish the study in university.

Abstract

his study is aimed at describing the implementation of Tartil method as an alternative to eliminate Al-Qur’an illiteracy among elementary school students. The study was conducted through two phases of explanatory mixed methods designs. Quantitative method was applied in the first phase (true experiment; pretest-post test one group design) involving 78 pupils of two schools who were Qur’an illiterate. Qualitative method was applied in the last phase (multi casemulti site case study design) involving 13 pupils and 2 teachers who implemented the method in their classroom. Data of the first phase was collected through oral test analyzed through descriptive statistics of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) Windows 18.0. Further, the second phase data was collected through in depth interview thematically analyzed by Nvivo 8. The findings of the study indicate the improvement of students’ ability in reading Qur’an after Tartil method was implemented (57.57% Good & 42.43 % Moderate). Data of the second phase implies that the success of the method is pursuant to four prominent factors, namely; (i) the method is truly enjoyable, understandable, simple and practical, (ii) the materials are systematically and precisely presented, (iii) the materials are easy to remember as they are colorful, (iv) it is possible to teach the students how to read Qur’an in murotal way through this method.

Abstract

One of the approaches used as an instrument of dakwah as well as islamization in Malay-Nusantara community is language approach. In general, islamization using language approach was carried out in two types, namely by adopting the Arabic words into Malay (lafzhi) and by maintaining the native words of Malay patterned with Hindu-Buddhist nuances but having meaningful Islamic values (maknawi). The objective of this research is to analyze islamization of Malay-Nusantara community through the language approach according to Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas. This research used qualitative method with an individual life history approach. All sorts of data were collected from the biographical books of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas, literature study, documentaries, and various written and physical works of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas. The process of data collection was done by collecting, reducing, presenting, and formulating conclusion.The results show that islamization by language approach, both lafzhi and maknawi, had a significant influence on islamic society of Malay-Nusantara, especially in Indonesia. It is proven by the establishment of formal Indonesia language that used Arabic and Malay words and patterns and adopted some of those words in the five principles of Pancasila.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the self acceptance of children raised by single mother, due to death divorce or marriage problems between the parents. The methods of this research is a qualitative with case study approach, data is collected by depth interview toward 15 children as the informants which chosen through purposive sampling technique. Those 15 informants live in Aceh, NTB, Bandung, Depok, Bogor, Jakarta, Bekasi, and Tanggerang. Overall view of research result shows that children’s self acceptance raised by single mother influenced by factors of maternal education and environment. In addition, self acceptance concept also influenced by passage of time associated with the trauma healing process and memories recollecting of their parent’s death or life divorce. Those factors above will also influence their future achievement.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to analyze the behavior and causal factors of plagiarism among the undergraduate students in accomplishing their coursework in Islamic religion subject. The study used methods combination of qualitative and quantitative research or Exploratory mixed methods designs. Qualitative data were taken from 15 papers of group works in the subjects of Islamic religion, while quantitative data were taken using questionnaires towards 80 students who are taking course in Islamic religion at State University of Padang (UNP). Data taken from papers of groupwork were analyzed thematically with method of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and taking conclusion, while questionnaires were analyzed descriptively using SPSS software version 18.0 for Windows.Results of the document analysis found that there are three forms of behavior of student plagiarism in accomplishing the coursework, first:  by quoting the entire writings of the other person without mentioning the source, second: by quoting part / half of the text/writings of others, third: by quoting the writing of others then converted into their own statements. While there are eight factors that cause plagiarism which are: not understand about plagiarism, the student’s instant culture in accomplishing academic tasks, the high volume of academic tasks given by lecturers, students’ low interest in reading, not enough time to find the answer in the book, the ease of Information Technology, low purchasing power and lack of knowledge in how to write a scientific papers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies and roles of Islamic boarding schools in achieving educational programs amidst the threat of the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. This research uses qualitative research with a case study research approach. The research was conducted at the Pesantren Border Aceh Tenggara as one of the pesantren assisted by the Aceh Province Islamic Boarding School Education Office. The results showed that the strategic management process carried out by the pesantren consisted of three interrelated processes, namely the formulation process, the implementation process (execution), and the strategic process (control). The last process is needed to provide input (feedback) for the next management process. The results of this study have implications for strategic management in pesantren management, namely: 1) the pesantren has managed to survive and strived to achieve the set academic program targets; 2) Islamic boarding schools as covid-19 prevention facilitators at the entrance to the provincial borders as a central place for health checks for immigrants who enter through the borders of Aceh province; 3) transformation of the learning system from traditional models to technology-based learning; and 4) the community is able to objectively assess educational institutions that are good in terms of management so as to allow a clear relationship between rewards and performance.
