Abstract

Scholars, including both Muslim and non-Muslim philologists and anthropologists, tend to agree that the Muslim holy book, Al- Quran[1], is not an easy text to read, understand and interpret, much more so than any other holy text available, say The Torah or The Gospel. However, for an open-minded scholar, to interpret Al-Quran is to experience an either pleasant or unpleasant encounter with all that it holds. Hence the variety of textual analysis relative to the various levels of understanding of the original message embedded in the allegorical language shaping it. In this context, reading Al- Quran can be viewed as an exercise in semiotics. This paper presents a panoramic view of this holy Book, but it dwells, more particularly, on exploring the taxonomy of interpretation of the probable messages underlying chapter XLIX, Surat[2] “Al-Hujurat”[3]. Using a semiotic stance to touch upon some issues ingrained in the sign language of this specific text, this paper uncovers the composite fabric of the Muslim communal system which also sounds universal in application when it comes to the shaping of healthy communities as regards the issues of divinity, righteousness, faith, ethics, humanism, justice, and accountability.

Abstract

This study explores the motivation for later life education among elderly women (60+) in Northeastern Nigeria. Intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions of motivation were explored in relation to personal, historical, and institutional influences based on an orientation of Activity, Life-course, and Gerotranscendence theories. To achieve the research aims, three research questions were posed.  First, what are the historical and institutional basis of motivation for later life education among elderly women? Secondly, how do intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions of motivation influence later life education among elderly women? Thirdly, how can improvement in later life education result in better coping among elderly women? Information was obtained using qualitative methods. Findings reveal that extrinsic motivation stems from historical links between Bauchi Emirate and Sokoto Caliphate as a center for Islamic civilization. Further, since the social institutions in the Bauchi emirate were a replication of the model of society promoted by the Jihad and the caliphate administration, later life education among elderly women is encouraged. As evident from the data generated on personal motivation factors, the majority of elderly women see later life education as an important coping prerequisite arising from intrinsic motivation with the most common reasons given as spiritual and religious benefits. A major finding of the present study relates to how motivation for later-life learning is regarded as a means of perfection in spiritual engagement for a successful transition to the afterlife. The study offers a number of recommendations for improved motivation for later life education among elderly women.

Abstract

In traditional educational institutions, Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim Tariq Al-Ta’allum by Imam Al-Zarnuji has a great influence in the field of teaching and learning, especially in the formation of the ethics of students when acquiring knowledge. This influence causes this book to be often studied in terms of the concept of science and pedagogy of education. But on the other hand, the importance of the balance of thought and behavior from a cognitive and moral point of view has not yet been studied in depth; whereas the goal of education according to Al-Zarnuji’s view is to produce human beings with personality and wisdom. Thus, education must lead to the development of human qualities in terms of intellectual, emotional, and spiritual balance. This study using a qualitative method with a content analysis approach seeks to explore the philosophy of integrated education contained in this book authored by Imam Al-Zarnuji. The results of the study found that monotheistic awareness is the main foundation in education because it not only stimulates the cognitive domain, but also the affective domain. With high awareness, man is not only able to perform his responsibilities to God which refers to vertical practices but is also able to perform his responsibilities to other human beings which refers to horizontal practices. Thus, it can be said that the philosophy of education emphasized by Al-Zarnuji in his writings is education based on a holistic view of knowledge.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to look at the governance of technology-based Islamic education at the madrasah level in the city of Medan, namely Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al Quba. The study of this research uses qualitative research methods. Methods of data collection using interviews, observation and documentation. Interviews were conducted with teachers and students. The results of the study show that governance at the Al Quba Ibtidaiyah madrasah level, Medan is a significant matter, because along with changing times, technology cannot be avoided, so that if there are madrasas that do not keep up with the times, they will be left behind by other schools. What's more, schools are currently the same as competition to get students, so technology is the main source for introducing schools to outsiders.

Abstract

An overview of the management of technology-based higher education and digital applications in an era that is now increasingly developing is becoming a critical study. For this reason, we conducted several interviews with more of the supervisors at Bontang University. Then we also believe in studying some of the scientific evidence that has raised technology-based education in tertiary institutions, which we then examine by involving various techniques such as data coding, and in-depth data interpretation to get answers as valid and reliable study findings. After going through a series of discussions and reviewing the results of interviews and other scientific evidence, it can be concluded that a review of technology-based education governance is a critical study considering that there are still many universities that have not fully opened their doors to technology-based teaching for management reasons and other limitations. These findings will be valuable insights for developing similar research in the future.

Abstract

Professional competence and infrastructure are still classic problems that have not been entirely resolved. This study has the aim of analyzing infrastructure as an intervening variable (Y1). The exogenous variable (X1) is professional competence, and the endogenous variable (Y2) is education quality. This research method uses a type of quantitative research with explanatory research methods. The number of samples in this study was 140 people, who were selected using the census method. The results of the hypothesis test showed that teacher professional competence directly affects the quality of education, infrastructure directly affects the quality of education, and infrastructure can mediate the effect of teacher professional competence on education quality.
